THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 48: I Don’t Need To Work Hard
It was a peaceful night for Kathleen and she ended up sleeping till 6am the following morning.
She was woken up by Mrs Carr who came to inform her that the children were ready for school. She quickly freshened up and went downstairs to have breakfast.
When she got to the living room, the children were already waiting for her to have breakfast together.
As expected, Eleanor was excited about going to a new school while Elvis just looked calm with a bland expression while eating, after all, he only agreed to enroll in a kindergarten because of Eleanor.
After having breakfast, they headed out to school. Eleanor chatted animatedly all the way.
When they drove through Pratt street, their attention was drawn to the skyscraper and the gold plated signage proudly displaying, HUDSON CORPORATIONS. It stood tall and intimidating in the neighborhood.
"Wow!" exclaimed Elvis who would hardly be impressed by just anything. That is such a massive company. I bet the owner would be a very powerful person."
His eyes sparkled with interest. "When I grow up, I would love to own a company as huge as that," he declared with a determined expression on his face.
"You don’t have to envy others, Elvis," Kathleen didn’t want the children to have any impression about the Hudson Group.
"Wyatt Corporations is in no way inferior to this company, and if I must say, it is way more powerful than this company also. And for your information, to attain such a position, you have to work hard in the future."
"I don’t need to work hard. I am already so talented and I believe I can achieve whatever I set to do with my brains," he bragged.
Kathleen shook her forefinger and her head simultaneously as she corrected, "No my dear, it is not all about brains, no one succeeds alone."
"You need others, precisely, people to succeed."
With her other hand, she held on to his chin, looking straight into his eyes, "Not only that, but you need to also understand how to relate with and manage people in order to get the best out of them. And with the best team, there is nothing that will be impossible to achieve with God by your side." 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
Elvis nodded his head in understanding, "So that’s how it works?"
"How else would it work? That is the main reason why I want you to go to kindergarten and learn how to do stuff with other kids."
"That way, you will get to understand how other people think and see things from a different perspective. It will go a long way in helping you in the future to be a good leader when you understand things from others point of view."
"Brother, you have to listen to mum, she is the smartest," Eleanor, who has been listening to their conversation, offered her little advice.
"Yeah, I will," Elvis agreed without arguing this time around.
"That’s my baby." Kathleen was pleased with his response. "So do I take it that you will put in more effort in your socializing skills from now on, especially at the kindergarten?"
"I will try, but only on the condition that they are not a total bore."
"Of course they won’t, mummy said all of them are geniuses and smart kids just like us. Right Mummy?" Eleanor asked.
"Absolutely, sweetheart. I promise you will both love it at your new school."
Within the brief silence that ensued in the car, Kathleen thought about how just the sight of Hudson Corporation building had succeeded in convincing her obstinate son in a few minutes of sighting it.
They soon arrived at the school gate and drove in towards the parking lot allocated for parents and guardians.
Another gate separated the parking lot from the school building where classes and other academic activities took place.
When they got to the second gate, a staff member was already waiting for them at the entrance to receive them and other pupils.
Normally, the pupils were handed over to the staff at the gate but since it was Elvis and Eleanor’s first day at the school, they had to report at the head teacher’s office where they would meet their teacher for the first time and the teacher would also get to know their parents before taking them to their class.
After the procedures were completed, it was time for Kathleen to take her leave. She crouched down to their level, and looking them straight in the eyes warned,
"Don’t bully any of the children in school and for you, Eleanor, no pranking of your fellow classmates and don’t retend to be sick in order to escape any activity."
Her expression turned serious, "Remember, Mum will not tolerate any calls from your school for any kind of misbehavior."
"Mum, why are you making us look like a bunch of outlaws before our new teacher?" complained Elvis in an aggrieved voice.
Eleanor pouted as she also added, "Brother is right, mom, we are the best behaved children anyone can have, which you are very much aware of. However, just to keep your beautiful mind at ease...," she paused and placed her dainty hand on her chest and declared solemnly, her golden curls bouncing up and down as if in agreement with what she wanted to say.
"I promise on my honor that the only report you will ever get about us is how amazing we are."
The teacher looked on, speechless. Other parents would try to coax their children so they wouldn’t cry on their first day in school but to the teacher’s amazement, the reverse was the case when it came to these children. She took note of them and had a premonition that her little class will never remain the same again.
Kathleen straightened up with a smirk on her face, obviously not convinced by Eleanor’s performance, "You said so yourself."
She turned to take her leave, extended her hand for a handshake while smiling at the teacher, "Have a good day Miss..."
"Miss Richards," supplied the teacher.
"Yes, Miss Richards."
"Bye mom," chorused the two children as they followed their teacher to their class.
