Chapter 45: Whose Child Was That?

The once warm temperature in the room suddenly turned several degrees cold and Kathleen felt a piercing gaze at the back of her neck.

Her fingers moved swiftly as she hurriedly turned off the speaker and continued with the call.

"Listen to me sweetheart, I’m sorry for staying this long, I just finished my work and will soon be on my way."

"Mm-hmm. I will. OK honey, I’ll hang up now. Love you too. Mwah!"

As soon as she ended the call she was

confronted by two pairs of cold questioning eyes. She looked away from them and continued with what she was about to say before she took the call.

"The treatment I just gave her should stabilize her until the test results are out." She prescribe some medication and explained the mode of administration for Old Mrs Hudson.

"I will be back by Monday to get her ready for the tests. Once we get the exact diagnosis, we will commence the appropriate treatment."

She quickly gathered her bag and left the room in a flash, outrightly ignoring the question in everyone’s eyes.

"Whose child was that and why is she calling you mommy?" Shawn’s taut voice sounded behind Kathleen as he effortlessly caught up with her with his long strides.

Kathleen didn’t want to expose her children’s identity yet and the only option she had for the moment was to flee. "It’s none of your business."

She quickened her pace and was practically running by this time.

That succeeded in flaring up the anger that Shawn has been trying desperately to suppress. "Same programmed answer again," he muttered through gritted teeth as his gaze dropped to the seductive sway of her full hips as she hurried to escape.

Without giving her any time to react, he dragged Kathleen into a room along the long corridor, pinned her against the wall effortlessly and shut the door behind them.

Kathleen was caught off guard by Shawn’s action and demanded in an equally angry tone, "What’s the meaning of this, President Hudson?"

She knew Shawn was not going to let the incidence slide but she didn’t envisage his current approach.

She glared defiantly into his eyes, her mouth set in a hard line. They were so close that Shawn’s warm breath fanned her neck.

The familiar Jasmine scent sweetly distilled into her sensitive nostrils, intoxicating her senses as always. ’What was it about this scent that it would always render her useless in such critical moments?’ she wailed inwardly.

Their eyes were locked in a stare with no one ready to surrender. Kathleen noticed an inexplicable emotion gradually replace Shawn’s angry gaze and without notice, Shawn hugged her and his lips descended in a kiss.

It was more of a vengeful kiss than a lovers kiss. She tried opening her mouth to tell him off but realized too late that it was a big mistake as his domineering tongue slid into her mouth, muffling any sound that threatened to come out of them.

She raised her hands to push him away but her hands were deftly caught by Shawn and skillfully trapped above her head. She struggled in vain and even her rejection came out as a seductive moan.

This seemed to stir him up further as the kiss became more intense and Kathleen’s brain went blank.

She was so lost in the kiss that she couldn’t think rationally; all her resistance collapsed like a pack of cards.

When Shawn sensed her acceptance, the kiss became more sensual.

"Kathleen!!!" he moaned, his voice thick with passion.

His groping hands under Kathleen’s exposed skin suddenly brought her back to earth.

’What am I doing? This has to stop now.’ She raised her knees and kicked him in his groin.

The sudden pain came as a surprise to Shawn who was still reeling in the throes of passion. He sobered instantly, his passion laden eyes clouded with pain. This time around Kathleen succeeded in pushing him away.

She did not wait for another second as she directly opened the door and fled.

In the blink off an eye, she was seated in her car and drove towards the gates of the manor as if she was being chased by a thousand demons.

She honked long before getting to the gate and the professional security personnels positioned at the gate opened just in time. A few seconds delay would have seen her crashing into the gate.

She sped through the huge gates like an arrow and only slowed down when she confirmed she wasn’t been followed by Shawn’s car.

With her speed slowing, came the heavy flow of traffic in her thoughts. They were flooding in quick torrents without waiting for answers. She had to stop the car by the side of the road to calm down a little.

"What is happening to you Kathleen Crawford Wyatt?" She lowered her head onto the steering wheel and cried out while hitting the seat beside her in frustration.

"You are doomed if you can’t even stand the temptation of a mere kiss. See the way you melted into a puddle."

’I need to stay away from him. Yes, that’s what I will do in order to keep my sanity.’

’But that would be difficult since I have committed myself to Nana’s treatment. I have to see her every week so there is a high chance I will always bump into Shawn each of those times.’

She released a deep breath. "What do I do now?"

"Think, think, think, Kathleen. Aren’t you the best again? You need to come up with a plan."

Let me get home first, and I’ll think of something later. The children have been waiting for me for so long and are already impatient.

She started her car and drove home not knowing how to handle the situation.

Shawn on the other hand finally remembered the reason for his previous anger and was more upset with himself for not finding out who that child was.

From the way she fled the scene, it’s obvious she doesn’t want to talk about it, however her facial expression when she took the call, clearly shows she has a deep connection with that child.

His mind wandered off to a terrifying possibility.

’Wait, was that her child with President Jason? Does it mean they’re married? No! She dare not marry anyone else. She’s still legally married to me and can only belong to me in this life.’

That succeeded in assuaging his fears and he went back to check on his grandmother.
