Grand Voyage : Surviving on a Ghost Ship-Chapter 279 - The Altered Nightmare – part 1
The trading window soon came to an end, and time returned to midnight.
Yang Yi had sold everything he planned to sell. His expected income would exceed 240,000 Shell Coins, bringing his account balance to over 1.28 million. (Physical trades incurred transaction fees, with each party paying their own by default.)
Over the next few days, he planned to finish crafting the remaining cloaks, complete the transactions, and collect the remaining payments.
As he was thinking this over, Yang Yi suddenly sat upright.
He had realised something.
Since the teleportation, not a single player seemed to have discovered a special sea region.
He picked up the world map and checked it, only to find that special sea regions weren’t mentioned at all.
“Could it be that all special sea regions are in the Lightless Sea?”
Yang Yi pondered this, but something still felt off.
Earlier, the whaling fleet’s ship had also carried a world map, originating from a country called Dabal, not far from the Bountiful Sea.
Yet that country, Dabal, couldn’t be found anywhere on the world map.
“Strange…”
Yang Yi couldn’t make sense of it.
In the end, he arrived at the only explanation that seemed reasonable: the world map, or perhaps the Sea of Miracles itself, was changing, and its total area might be shrinking.
Separately, the price of crystal diamonds had stabilised at 500 Shell Coins per unit, and they were sold at the Golden Chamber of Commerce.
High-tier resources like sea silver, magic stones, crystal diamonds, and blackwood were all priced at 500 Shell Coins per unit.
Among them, magic stones were the most popular on the market. Upgrading a normal ship to level five required magic stones, 300 units, along with a large amount of basic materials. After that, a normal ship would transform into a steam ironclad, with a massive boost to its stats.
“Five hundred Shell Coins per unit… thirty thousand crystal diamonds would be fifteen million Shell Coins. And that’s not even counting transaction fees…”
Yang Yi felt an immense sense of pressure.
Still, if he seized control of the Sanctuary, sold off the captured weapons, added in the rat pelts, the materials in the Sanctuary’s warehouse, and the resources and blueprints obtained from dismantling ships,
Yang Yi was confident he could scrape together that enormous sum.
However, he still had reservations about dismantling the ship.
He took out the A-grade access ID card and stared at it for a while.
If this card could grant sufficient permissions, then keeping the ship as a permanent offshore base would actually be a very good option.
The Sanctuary was well suited to serve as a base. It didn’t increase exposure, and could even be treated as half a player island.
“So… dismantle it or keep it, I’ll decide after clearing the rat nest and completing the occupation.”
Yang Yi made up his mind.
It was already late.
He instructed Little Two to patrol the deck and keep an eye on the Vitality Sardine Tree, then went to sleep.
…
The sound of gunfire and explosions jolted Yang Yi awake.
He immediately sprang up from his chair, drawing his weapon and aiming at a suspicious figure approaching from ahead.
“Who’s there?” Yang Yi shouted, squinting for a better look.
It was a blond man he had never seen before. And Yang Yi also noticed that the flintlock pistol in his hand had been swapped out, it had become a high-power beam cannon.
The newcomer was startled by Yang Yi’s reaction and immediately raised both hands, forcing a bitter smile onto his face.
“Captain Dijie, it’s me! That joke of yours is a bit too much!”
His tone sounded exactly like that of an old friend.
But Yang Yi didn’t lower his guard. He examined the man carefully.
He was wearing a brown jacket, with dazzling blond hair, around 1.9 meters tall, built like a bear…
Yang Yi was certain he had never seen this man before. And yet, the man had just called him… Captain Dijie?
“What did you call me?”
Yang Yi asked, keeping his weapon trained on him, his gaze cold.
“Of course, Captain Dijie…
Captain, what’s wrong with you?”
The blond man looked utterly confused.
Yang Yi offered no explanation. Instead, he asked another question.
“Then who are you?”
“I’m Horace!
First Mate Horace, Captain, don’t tell me you’ve forgotten me…”
Zzz!
A purple beam of light answered Horace’s words, instantly blowing his head apart and even melting the metal wall behind him.
The headless body swayed twice on the spot, then collapsed heavily to the floor.
“Looks like I crossed over and became Captain Dijie.”
Yang Yi confirmed his situation.
The moment he arrived, he had already eliminated a potential infected individual, the first mate.
He then scanned his surroundings and confirmed that he was inside some kind of guard room aboard the Sanctuary.
The floor was littered with shrivelled blood bags, and most of the weapons mounted on the walls had already been taken.
Boom!
Rat-tat-tat-tat!
Zzz! Zzz! Zzz!
A continuous barrage of explosions and gunfire echoed from below.
Down there seemed to be a fierce battlefield.
Yang Yi didn’t leave the guard room immediately. Instead, he walked up to one side of the wall and checked his appearance.
He looked to be around thirty. His cheeks were sunken, his skin pale, and deep dark circles ringed his eyes, like a shut-in who’d been malnourished for years.
This man closely resembled the one in the photos from Laboratory No. 3. Suna had sent those pictures before, and Yang Yi remembered them clearly.
He tried summoning the system, and it actually worked, but most of the information was blurred. Only the personal panel could be viewed.

“Dream…?”
“Right. I was dreaming!”
Yang Yi suddenly understood.
He had experienced countless nightmares before, most of them chaotic, fragmented, and barely memorable.
But this time was different. He had awakened inside the nightmare, remembered who he was, and could act freely within it.
“I’ve taken Captain Dijie’s place and kept his talents… but this is a dream, probably a projection of the past. Why would I have a dream like this?”
Yang Yi tried to analyse the situation.
Just then, a guard in a dark blue combat uniform rushed in, panic written all over his face.
“Captain Dijie, this is bad! Down below, ”
His voice cut off abruptly.
He saw a headless corpse lying in the room. Judging by the clothes, it was likely First Mate Horace.
Yang Yi was holding a gun. There were no other suspicious figures present.
“Captain… you’ve been infected by the rats, ” the guard cried in horror.
“Shh.”
Yang Yi pressed the gun against the guard’s forehead, signalling him to stay quiet, or have his head blown off.
The guard nodded frantically.
Only then did Yang Yi explain, “Horace was infected by the rats. He just tried to assassinate me.”
“Is that so?”
“Of course.”
“Then why isn’t there a weapon in his hand?”
“Uh… maybe he planned to strangle me. You know how it is. That guy was built like a bear.”
Yang Yi forced the explanation.
“But the first mate…”
The guard swallowed hard and glanced again at Horace’s corpse. In the end, he chose not to bring up the old story about how the first mate had once beaten the captain in an arm-wrestling match…
“In short, I discovered his treachery and killed him,” Yang Yi said, sounding confident.
But the guard’s expression grew increasingly grim, his right hand slowly moving towards the pistol at his waist.
“There was a rat parasite on his back. I saw it.”
Yang Yi dropped a bombshell, interrupting the guard’s movement.
Then he flipped Horace’s body over, lifted his jacket and the vest underneath.
