Chapter 46: She Has Been Arrogant Since She Came Back

It’s been two days now and Mrs Beazell had not yet received any news from Spider. She was doubtless anxious and couldn’t concentrate on anything.

"Two days have already passed without any information from him or about him. I knew that fool was up to no good. Why hasn’t he contacted me yet?" she asked no one in particular.

She had a strong hunch that he did not succeed. She stood up from her bed and began pacing her bedroom.

’Could he have been caught? No, Spider cannot be caught. He’s one of the slyest creatures I’ve ever known. The worst that can happen is that the operation failed, but to be caught? No!’

After sometime, she tried yet again to contact him through his contact but the same automated voice from the phone responded to her. "Even his number isn’t going." This was enough to keep her on tenterhooks.

There was a knock on the door and before she could ask the person to come in, Linda entered unannounced.

As usual, she was glamorously dressed to go out in a branded peach colored dress that hugged her body and had heavy makeup on her face.

"Why did you barge into my room like that?" Mrs Beazell, who was already in a foul mood, scolded as soon as she saw that it was Linda.

Only Linda had such ability. If it were to be someone else, that person wouldn’t have a good ending.

"But I knocked Mom." Linda pouted with a long face. "What were you thinking about that you didn’t hear me? Is everything okay with you?"

"Mm-hmm. Why did you ask?"

"I’ve noticed you’ve not been yourself for some days now, you’ve been distracted so many times and always in deep thoughts."

"Is there something I can help you with mom?" She locked gaze with her mother, hoping she would confide in her.

"You know they say a problem shared is a problem half solved," she tried to coax her mother to open up to her.

"Oh that, there’s nothing wrong dear, just some little things that will be sorted out soon."

Linda understood that her mother was not willing to talk about whatever it was that was bothering her. "If you say so then."

She shrugged her shoulders and headed back to the door.

"I came to inform you that I’m hanging out with some friends tonight and might be coming home late."

"Be careful out there and don’t get too drunk while you’re at it. Remember we are yet to clean up the mess with Moore Chambers."

"Mom," Linda cried out in an aggrieved voice. "Why are you making it look like I’m the one to blame? If not for Kathleen, how would I have had any conflict with President Jason and end up being disgraced out of the mall?"

She always felt a strong urge to strangle Kathleen to death each time she thinks about the incident at the mall.

The humiliation she suffered that day will forever be a dent on the perfect image she’s spent all these years building.

"I wish she would disappear completely from the face of the earth," she cursed, her green eyes glinting dangerously.

Mrs Beazell gently caressed Linda’s face which was contorted with hatred. ’Not as much as I do,’ she mumbled to herself but to Linda’s hearing she advised,

"Don’t have such negative thoughts my daughter, she will get what she deserves one of these days."

Linda was unaware of her mother’s latest move on Kathleen’s life so did not fully understand the meaning behind her statement.

It sounded as if she was leaving Kathleen in the hands of fate but in reality, she was referring to her arrangement with Spider.

"When mom? I wish those gunmen were not so useless that they couldn’t even get rid of her once and for all."

"What! What did you just say? What do you mean by gunmen?" She patted the space beside her. "Come sit here for a while. What do you mean?"

"I heard from a very reliable source that Kathleen was nearly killed two days ago by an unknown gunman but unfortunately, she escaped unscathed as the useless people couldn’t kill her, rather one of them even died in the process."

"I wonder why she is so lucky and has refused to die despite coming face to face with death several times. She ought to have died in the plane crash but miraculously survived, now she even survived an assassination attempt. How many lives does she have?"

Mrs Beazell went pale when she heard that one of the people died. After Linda finished her narration, she noticed her mother’s strange reaction and couldn’t help but ask. "Mom, why are you so worked up?"

Mrs Beazell realized she had overreacted and instantly covered up. "Oh, nothing really. I just thought who else would hate her so much to want to take her life."

"You don’t know mom, but she has been so arrogant since she came back, that I’m sure a lot of people are not happy to have her around. Maybe she has offended someone she shouldn’t."

"That is a possibility."

Mrs Beazell successfully suppressed her unstable emotions to appear normal and continued to ask. "About the person that survived, is there any news about him? Was he arrested?"

"I heard the paramedics appeared not long after the accident happened and took him away." She patted her mother’s hands by her side and stood up. "I have to get going now mom, otherwise I’ll be late."

"That’s okay, like I said before, be careful on your way."

"Yes mom, I will." Linda said and waltzed out of the room, her heels clicking with each step she took.

As soon as the door was shut, Mrs Beazell quickly pulled out her phone to dial a number.

"I want you to check the details of an accident that happened two days ago for me and where the victims are hospitalized immediately."

She paused for a while, apparently listening to what the other party was saying.

"One more thing, ensure you are not discovered, if not, you are on your own," she warned before hanging up.
