Chapter 338: I AM STRAIGHT

Lauren smiled, her dimples appearing like delicate crescents in her cheeks.

They added an extra layer of charm to her already captivating smile, making her look both endearing and irresistibly attractive.

Steffan felt his heart skip a beat, completely enchanted by her.

"Can we talk in my office?" he asked, still caught in the spell of her smile.

Lauren nodded and followed him to his office. Once inside, Steffan closed the door behind them and the room suddenly felt more intimate and serious.

It was as if everything that threatened their relationship had been shut off leaving just the two of them in their own world.

Steffan turned to face Lauren, his eyes filled with curiosity and desperation.

"Lauren, why haven’t you contacted me since the last time we met?" he asked softly as though the magical moment would disappear if he spoke any louder.

"I’ve been busy Steffan," Lauren replied calmly, equally guarding the moment which reminded her so much of the times they’ve spent alone in this office during those nights that Steffan had to do night shifts.

She would always come around to accompany him.

"Lauren, I’m suffering terribly and I believe I can count on you to help me out."

Hearing him say that, Lauren knew what he was talking about.

"Can you tell me exactly how you are suffering, maybe I might be able to help like you said," she offered warily.

She didn’t want to outrightly promise anything. Besides she was yet to get what she was aiming at.

She wanted Steffan to willingly fall in love with her afresh to be sure that no matter how many lifetimes they meet again, that’s if something like that was real, he would still choose her like he had promised in the past. To her, this was like his second birth so she wanted to test that.

"There are so many things I want to know that had happened before I lost part of my memory and top on that list is you."

"What about me?" Lauren asked feigning ignorance. "Is there anything wrong with me?"

"Nothing is wrong with you, Lauren. It’s just that..." Steffan paused and ran a hand through his hair. "I... I have never had...," he paused again, darted a glance at Lauren who was listening with rapt attention. "I have never had any interest in women," he finally blurted out.

"Don’t tell me you are gay and only like men," Lauren gasped, looking like she had just seen a ghost.

"Can you let me finish? It’s difficult saying this already," Steffan cried out in frustration.

"Oh there’s still more, do you feel you are cheating on your future partner by getting close to me? Or you had one before you lost your memory?"

Seeing the dark look on Steffan’s face that was not different from an angry weather, Lauren quickly shut up and made a zipping gesture with her hand.

Steffan didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Is this woman for real? With such wild imagination he doubted if she ever thought about anything good.

"I AM STRAIGHT! I have never liked men, at least not in the way you are insinuating," he stated angrily.

Lauren released a sigh of relief, deliberately making it loud.

"The thing is that," Steffan continued, "with you, it is different."

"Sorry to interrupt, but what do you mean?" Lauren asked.

"I always feel a certain..."

"Don’t tell me you’ve fallen for me so soon? We’ve only known each other for just a few months. You can’t say you’re in love with me already, right? This is more scary than the other option."

Steffan frowned. ’Why can’t this woman learn to keep her promise? And why is she suddenly looking so appalled.

What if he was in love with her which he knew was not possible. He only finds her intriguing, that’s all. Love was an emotion too complicated to dabble into especially now that he was yet to get a grip on his lost years.

Seeing him say nothing, Lauren did another zipping sign, and urged him with her hands to please continue.

Finding her behavior funny, Steffan couldn’t help but smile, especially the way she pursed her tempting lips and twisted her face before drawing a zip over her mouth.

He folded his hands across his chest and just stared at her in disbelief. "You definitely are a drama queen," he said helplessly.

’I know, that’s what everybody says,’ Lauren agreed inwardly but said nothing before he would say she had interrupted him again.

After a brief silence that ensued in the room, Steffan moved from his seat and went to stand before Lauren.

"What was our relationship in the past?" he asked directly as his eyes bore into hers as if he wanted to see the depth of her soul. "I can’t keep groping in the dark."

"We were engaged, Steffan. We were planning our future together," she wanted to scream aloud to him but like before she was scared and kept mute.

"Lauren, please say something," Steffan begged, his tone tinged with frustration.

Unable to meet his probing gaze, Lauren sighed and moved away, she was torn between damning the consequences and revealing everything to him so that she can get her man back and on the other hand subjecting him to another crisis that will give Dolly more opportunities to bore her claws into him.

"I don’t think you’re ready for that yet," she eventually said.

"And when the heck do you think I’ll be ready for whatever you are all keeping from me?" Steffan snapped.

Although he had known she would say that and had prepared to handle it better this time, he still blew up when he actually heard her say it.

"Language, Doc. I’m sure you wouldn’t want your patients to hear you or see their handsome doctor this riled up," Lauren cautioned calmly. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

Steffan was rendered speechless by her words which seemed to suck up all his anger, leaving him weak and dry. What powers does she have over me that no other woman has?

She was the only woman that can drive him to a quick boiling point and at the same time subdue the heat within him within seconds..

"Alright, Madam sweet talker, I can handle whatever you have to tell me."

"That was the same way you insisted that you were ready the last time and ended up bringing your girlfriend into the house to mess up your family’s peaceful life," Lauren cruelly reminded.

"Dolly is not my girlfriend. How many times do I need to say that for you to believe me? We are just friends. Friends, Lauren!"

"Alright she’s not your girlfriend but that doesn’t mean she wants it to remain that way," Lauren sneered.

"I can never date Dolly?"

"Why? She is attractive and beautiful. From what I’ve heard about her so far, she is also an outstanding doctor like you, so why can’t you date her? Except..." Lauren cleverly diverted Steffan’s attention from his original quest.

"Except what?" Steffan stared at Lauren suspiciously. He had a feeling he wasn’t going to like what would come out of her mouth but still pressed.
