Chapter 337: Dated One Of The Best Surgeons

At the same time Lauren turned around as she heard her name from the all too familiar voice.

Her eyes darted between Steffan and Dolly, taking in the sight of them together before her lips suddenly turned up in a smirk.

Steffan released a helpless sigh, he knew instantly what this woman would be imagining again in her little mind but he was tired of explaining.

Moreover he was still angry with her for not reaching out to him for over a week since the last time they met.

"Hello, Dr Steffan, how are you doing? I can see how happy and good you two look together in your uniform. It’s a perfect fit, I must say," Lauren complimented, her tone dripping with sarcasm.

It would only be a fool that would believe she was referring to the doctor’s coat, him and Dolly had on.

Although he had said he wouldn’t bother explaining anything to her, he still felt uncomfortable with the way she had just spoken and he didn’t know why.

"Lauren I..." he began, unsure of what to say then turned to Dolly,

"Dolly, could you give us a moment?" he asked softly.

"Of course," Dolly nodded and walked away, still maintaining that plastic smile as she saw a few glances being cast in their direction.

But deep inside, she was boiling and sweating with fury. ’Why did she have to show up in the hospital as soon as Steffan? Was she sent here by that witch?’

"Come with me, Lauren," Steffan said to Lauren who was staring after Dolly’s disappearing back with an indescribable expression.

"To where?" Lauren asked stubbornly. "I didn’t come here to socialize if you must know. I’m here for something important, although I didn’t expect to stumble on your cozy moment with your loving colleague," Lauren said, with a knowing smile that infuriated Steffan.

"Lauren! Are you bent on making things difficult for me? Why do you always have to pick on me everytime we’re together?"

"I don’t have that ability, Doctor. But if you’ll excuse me, I have to go about the business.that brought me here. See you around."

Lauren was about to breeze off but was stopped by Steffan’s voice.

"What brought you here?"

"It’s not your business and I’m not under any obligation to tell you."

"I see. But remember I am a doctor here and can help you facilitate things," Steffan threw back.

Hearing Steffan’s request, Lauren couldn’t help but be reminded of the first time she had met Steffan in this hospital.

Then, she had come to see her friend’s husband who was on admission and had bumped into him as soon as she had stepped out of the lift. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

He was the most handsome doctor she had ever seen and had been instantly attracted to him. He had moved her cold heart inexplicably within that brief encounter.

It could be best described as love at first sight.

Reluctant to part with him, she had tricked Steffan into taking her to see her friend and since then, had taken the opportunity to shamelessly pursue him after their second chance meeting at a club.

Then, she was the one not willing to let go, but today, Steffan was the one looking for a way to keep her around. Wasn’t that ironic?

She decided to take a step back, after all it was not wise to overdo things, especially with a shameless Dolly waiting around the corner to grab him at any available opportunity.

"Alright, I’m here to see a friend," she finally said. "He was brought here yesterday evening."

"What’s wrong with him?"

"I’m yet to find out."

"That’ll not be a problem. Which ward was he admitted to?" Steffan asked and they set off after Lauren told him.

As they passed through the corridor, the atmosphere changed with each step. Doctors and nurses who had been giving him polite, professional nods when he had passed with Dolly, suddenly transformed when they saw Lauren.

"Lauren, it’s so good to see you!" a nurse exclaimed, her face lighting up as she waved.

"Lauren! How have you been?" a doctor called out, giving her a warm smile.

Even those who had recently been casting disapproving glances at Dolly now greeted Lauren with genuine happiness, which made Steffan feel a pang of confusion.

"You seem to be more popular here than I am," he muttered, trying to keep his tone light. "And I’m the doctor working in this hospital."

Lauren chuckled softly, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "That’s because I once dated one of their best surgeons and was able to gather a lot of fans effortlessly."

Steffan’s curiosity was piqued, and he couldn’t suppress the edge of jealousy that crept into his voice.

"Who is the doctor?" he asked, his tone directly betraying his feelings. "Do I know him?"

Lauren glanced at him, a knowing smile playing on her lips. "You should, but I doubt you’d remember him as he is part of the memory you chose to leave out," Lauren said nonchalantly.

Steffan frowned, his mind racing inexplicably. If there was any time he hated losing his memory, it was right now. He was dying to know the man that would have fallen in love with this troublesome woman.

"I would like to meet him."

Lauren waved her hand dismissively. "You don’t need to bother yourself with those trivialities."

"Are you sure?" Steffan asked, not satisfied with Lauren’s reply.

"Yes, I’m sure," Lauren said, her tone gentle but firm.

Steffan was about to press further when they reached the room where Lauren’s friend was admitted.

Pushing open the door, Lauren’s face lit up with concern as she stepped inside.

"Hey, how are you feeling?" Lauren asked softly, walking over to the bedside.

Horatio, the manager of her coffee shop, looked up with a weak smile.

"Better, now that you’re here," he replied, reaching out to squeeze Lauren’s hand.

They were actually long term friends who had happily agreed to work as her manager when she opened the coffee shop

Steffan stood back, observing the interaction. Despite his lingering jealousy, he couldn’t help but admire Lauren’s kindness and the genuine warmth she exuded.

"So what’s wrong with you?" Steffan asked.

"Doctor Steffan?" Horacio called out, his face lighting up in recognition. He had thought it was one of the other doctors who had followed Lauren in and had not paid much attention to him.

"The doctor that saw me said it was food poisoning," he said in reply to Steffan’s question.

Steffan’s brow furrowed as he wondered how the man knew his name. He was sure he wasn’t one of his old patients since he was just admitted there yesterday.

Did he know him through Lauren since he was Lauren’s friend?

"Do you need anything?" Lauren asked Horatio, her voice filled with concern.

"No, I’m okay. Just having you here is enough," Horatio replied, his eyes reflecting gratitude.

Steffan momentarily put aside his doubts and stared at Lauren in admiration. It was clear that Lauren had a profound impact on the people around her, and he was beginning to understand why she was so well-liked.

As they left the room, Steffan turned to Lauren, his voice softer. "You’re really good with people, you know that?

Lauren smiled, her dimples appearing like delicate crescents in her cheeks.

They added an extra layer of charm to her already captivating smile, making her look both endearing and irresistibly attractive.

Steffan felt his heart skip a beat, completely enchanted by her.
