THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 329: A Loving Meddling Mother In-law
With that she put a call through to her dear daughter whom she haven’t seen in days. Perhaps she was still throwing a tantrum or shy about what she did the other day.
"Hello, mom," Lauren answered from the other end.
"Is that how you treat your mother? Don’t call me mom again," Sarah scolded feigning anger.
"Don’t say that, mom. I’ve been quite busy, lately, that’s why," Lauren pleaded.
"What is so important than me your mother? It is very clear you no longer have me in your heart, if not, why would you abandon me for days leaving me alone to tend to that useless son of mine that had chosen to forget the basic things in life? I’m so hurt right now and feel so abandoned," Sarah whined and sounded so hurt that Lauren, who clearly knew Sarah was at it again was still affected by her tone.
"Alright. I will come over to see you this Sunday. How about that?"
Sarah was ecstatic getting her promise, but still pushed her luck a little further. "Sunday is still so far away. What would have become of my poor self by then if I have to wait that long before seeing you? Hurry over and see me tomorrow."
Lauren: "..."
"Sunday is just the day after tomorrow, mom, what’s the difference?" She asked.
"We are saying the same thing, sweetheart. Since there’s no difference between the two, why not come over tomorrow?" Sarah said, using Lauren’s words against her.
"Sorry mom, I can’t come tomorrow as that’s the day I’m most busy in the shop, but like I promised, I’ll ee you unfailingly on Sunday." Lauren insisted the same way she has been doing this past week, only this time around. She would try to keep her promise.
"Okay, i will try to hold out till then," Sarah said in a mournful voice as if she was making the concession of the century. "But before then, can you do me a teeny weeny favour?"
Lauren shook her head and sighed helplessly. "Alright. What do you want me to do for you, mom?"
She couldn’t help but wonder if this was the same pressure her other daughter in-law, Candace receives from her or was it only her?
After receiving her instructions, Lauren ended the call and turned to glare at Candace who was trying to stifle a giggle.
"I guess you already know who called me from the way you are behaving," she said looking wronged.
"Our mother, of course," Candace declared, stressing the first two words.
"I’m happy I’m no longer the only person to put up with her tantrums," she added with relief.
In the past when she first got married to Stanley she almost suffocated under Sarah’s love as she made it a point of duty to call her for every little thing that happened around her.
Although it got on her nerves several times, it was still better having a loving meddling mother in-law than having a hateful, embittered mother in-law threatening her peace all day.
She was only delivered a few years ago after she gave birth to Sophia which was a huge distraction as all of Sarah’s attention was turned onto Sophia.
Then she gave birth to Danny who turned out to be a boy and was not enough to keep her attention as Sophia had done.
Just when she was about to redirect her attention to her again, Lauren came along as her saviour.
"What does she want?" Lauren when still had a helpless look in her face.
"She wants me to come to the house," Lauren said helplessly.
"I also think you should come around before your man is taken away by that bitch in a doctor’s attire."
"I still don’t know how to face them," Lauren confessed. Up till now, she still didn’t know what got into her that day to act the way she did. Taking the initiative to kiss Steffan so deeply in the presence of everyone.
In the past it was Steffan who would plant a kiss on her lips each time she came over which Danny interpreted as a usual routine after his uncle told him that was the best way to welcome his Aunt.
When he had asked why, Steffan had said the first thing that came to his mind.
"It show that we are not fighting with each other."
Danny had frowned as he tried to analyze the answer but never got to ask why his parents didn’t welcome each other like that since they also were not fighting with each other.
Who would have known that one day, Danny would use it to stir up so much trouble.
She still couldn’t place a finger on why she also acted the way she did that day. Perhaps it was the bottled emotion from the past days after Steffan’s accident that desperately needed an outlet, or the fact that she was fed up with all the hide and seek that everyone, including herself, seemed to be playing around Steffan that influenced her and made her put so much energy into that single kiss, making it so intense.
Then she got to know that Steffan had a crises almost immediately after she left, causing Dolly to have access to Steffan, which almost threw the lovely and peaceful home of the Rosses into an unhealthy chaotic mess.
Although none of them blamed her for what happened, she had not stopped blaming herself for being impulsive that day. Afterall the doctor had warned them to be careful around him.
As Candace quietly observed Lauren who was lost in thought, she could vaguely guess what she was worried about and her heart went out to her.
’She doesn’t deserve any of this? She’s too good to be going through this. But how do I help her get through this and regain her place in Steffan’s heart so that she could return to her home?
Thinking about returning home, It then dawned on her that that was what their mother in-law was also trying to do.
Putting on a comforting smile, she snapped her fingers before Lauren.
"I’m still here. Where have you zoned off to?"
"I’ve been everywhere, but thanks to you, I’m back here again," Lauren joked.
"So will you come over as you promised mom on Sunday, or you said that just to get her off your back for the meantime?"
Lauren couldn’t help but feel guilty. "I’ll come over."
"Seriously?" Candace asked, clearly not believing her.
"Have I been that bad? Of course, I’ll come."
"That’ll be great."
"To show you my sincerity, I’ll treat you to lunch," Lauren offered.
"I don’t need you to convince me, I’ll be more convinced when I see you on Sunday."
Alright, let’s wait till Sunday. But I still want to treat you."
"Since you are insisting, do I have a choice? Let’s go,"
"So where are we going for lunch?" Candace asked as she walked out of the shop with Lauren.
"Mom asked me to get something for her so we might as well use the opportunity to have lunch at The Masters Place since it’s closer.
A frown appeared on Candace’s beautiful face. "But we didn’t book in advance. How do we get a table there?"
"There’s no need to worry your pretty head about that, it’s been settled."
"That’s perfect..To the Masters Place, then," Candace said and climbed into Lauren’s car. Who wouldn’t be thrilled to have lunch in such a five star hotel?
