Chapter 328: Harmless Friend

Whether by coincidence or by a deliberate act, Lauren had been so busy for the past two weeks in her coffee shop that she barely had time to visit Steffan.

Even when Sarah called her repeatedly to come over, she had always had something that came up at the last minute making it impossible for her to go.

However on the other hand, Dolly who was now a regular visitor at the Rosse’s residence couldn’t be much happier especially when she saw the angry glare Sarah didn’t fail to throw her each time she came around.

And that afternoon wasn’t an exception as she sauntered into the exquisite living room in full glare of the only two members of the family who had nowhere to go. That of course was Steffan and Sarah, who had made it her permanent duty to watch over Steffan until he was able to think rationally.

Because no rational thinking human would choose someone as loose and lawless as Dolly for a friend.

From the way she dresses each time she comes around, Sarah doubted if she didn’t sleep her way through school but that again was something she couldn’t outrightly use against her as she could clearly see that she was quite good at her job, especially her massages.

Under her hand, Steffan’s recovery has been remarkable and the headaches were almost, if not completely gone.

That was the only reason they still allowed her into the house.

The only person with a welcoming smile when Dolly entered the living room was Steffan, who stood up from his seat on seeing her.

"How are you today?" Dolly asked with a smile that only a wife would give to her husband who just returned from work.

"I’m fine as you can see, thanks to you." Steffan replied.

"Hope it was not too hectic at the hospital today?" Steffan asked as he gestured for her to sit across from him.

"We’re coping and can’t wait to have you back," Dolly answered as she took her seat.

She only spared Sarah a forced nod as her way of acknowledging her presence, which was not hard to tell she did it only because she was trying to be courteous for Steffan’s sake..

"Guess what?" She asked excitedly, returning her attention to Steffan.

"I came to take you out today. I suddenly realized that since your accident, you haven’t left this place, so I booked a table for us at The Masters Place," she announced excitedly, earning a disapproving frown from Sarah who was doubtless listening to their conversation, despite focusing on the magazine in her hands.

"I don’t think Steffan is fit to start socializing yet. Why don’t you wait a little, son before going to those places. They might trigger something which I’m afraid, you might not be ready for yet, " Sarah admonished, turning her appeal to Steffan.

Steffan went to hold his mother’s hands who was apparently saying that to stop him from spending some time with Dolly outside her watchful eyes.

"I’ll be fine, mom. It’s just a meal and I’ll be back soon," he coaxed. "Besides, I’ll be resuming work next month, so it’s good I start getting used to things around here gradually."

"I still don’t think it is okay for you to go out alone," Sarah pointed out.

"Mom, I’m not going out alone, Dolly here is a doctor and can take care of me if anything should happen," Steffan coaxed.

Dolly, who had rolled her eyes several times at the annoying woman, was finally appeased by what Steffan said about her taking care of him as that was exactly what she intended to do for the rest of her life. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

But she planned to do it gradually and in a subtle way inorder not to raise Steffan’s guards around her.

She knew very well from when they were abroad that he had always seen every woman that approached him as a nuisance, and aleays hated them the moment he sensed they have ulterior motives.

Up till now, she had tried her best to make him continue seeing her as just the harmless friend she was when they were outside the country but she didn’t want it to continue that way if she was to achieve her goal.

So far, she could tell that Steffan had dropped his guard against her,

But seeing the woman who was standing in her way she cursed her a thousand times in her heart but could only force a smile on her face just to put up appearance before Steffan.

"I understand you are worried about Steffan, Mrs Rosse, but we won’t be long and I assure you that we will be back as soon as we are done."

Sarah didn’t even spare Dolly a look but had a brooding expression as she continued staring at her magazine. After some time, she reluctantly gave her consent.

But seeing Dolly’s estastic smile, Sarah couldn’t help but sneer inwardly. ’Dream on, because I’ll never give you the opportunity to do anything to my son.’

And just when Dolly was preparing to give her false "thank you for your understanding" speech, Sarah said,

"But Cassidy will accompany you," instantly bursting Dolly’s multicolored bubbles.

"Huh?"

Was it not the same as she going out with them? Cassidy was what would best be described as Sarah’s right hand woman. She had served her from the day she got married to her husband and had witnessed her give birth to her two sons.

"Alright mom, if that will make you feel at ease." Steffan said, unaware of the twisted expression on Dolly’s face which was not lost to Sarah’s eyes, which though were still fixed on her magazine could still peer over the edge to see what was happening opposite her.

"That will make me feel very much at ease son. Remember the person that tried to kill you is still out there, so two bodyguards will also accompany you," she added, which Steffan had no problem with.

Enjoying the effect she was getting, an "I feel good... ta na na na, ta na na na" tune began playing in her head and she felt like doing a waltz but unfortunately her husband wasn’t at home to accompany her.

With a face as dark as the bottom of a charred pot, Dolly rose to her feet, mumbling, "I’ll wait for you outside to get ready."

She knew it would not be right to follow Steffan upstairs since he was going to change and she wasn’t in the right frame of mind to also deal with the witch Steffan called a mom, so the only option was to wait outside.

There she could get some fresh air and also expel the one suffocating her entire being without attracting undue attention to herself.

So even before getting Steffan’s response she was off in a whiff causing Sarah to explode in laughter.

"Shameless!" She merely uttered and went back to her magazine and the dress she just saw looked particularly attractive that she felt it would look so good on Lauren.

With that she put a call through to her dear daughter whom she haven’t seen in days. Perhaps she was still throwing a tantrum or shy about what she did the other day.
