Chapter 325: I Thought You Called A Doctor, Son?

"What’s happening to him?" Sarah demanded, her voice tight with concern.

Stanley knelt beside his brother, gently patting his cheek in a futile attempt to rouse him. "I don’t know, Mom," he admitted, his voice trembling with fear.

As the tension in the room mounted, and everyone was flustered and didn’t know what to do, a gentle voice suddenly sounded.

"Daddy, call the doctor, he will know what to do."

Everyone stopped and turned to see Sophia staring down at them with a calm expression.

The idea never occurred to anyone as they were all in a panic when they saw Steffan’s condition.

Stanley stood to his feet and before he could reach into his pocket to get his phone his daughter handed over his phone to him. He collected it and quickly dialed Doctor Sullivan’s number.

Dr Sullivan, who just stepped into his office, frowned when he saw Stanley’s call.

"Stanley, hope everything is okay?" He said as he picked up the call.

"No, Doctor," Stanley’s frantic voice answered almost immediately.

"What is wrong? Did something happen to Steffan?"

"I don’t know what is wrong with him Doctor, but he is in serious pain."

"He was fine when he left the hospital this afternoon. Was he triggered?" Dr Sullivan asked as that was the only thing that could cause such a reaction. He had made sure that he was safe enough to go home before discharging him.

"Doctor, my brother needs help immediately. Can we talk about that later, please? Stanley urged.

This was the first time he was seeing his brother in this state and he didn’t know how to handle the situation.

Why is he always so stubborn and refused to listen to anyone?

"Alright."

Doctor Sullivan had a conflicted look as he ended his call with Stanley.

The surgery was in ten minutes and he was the one handling it. How is he going to split himself into two?

"You can go ahead with the surgery, Chief, I’ll go over to Steffan’s place to see him," Dolly, who had followed Dr. Sullivan in, offered.

Her voice suddenly reminded Dr Sullivan that someone else was in the office with him.

She was the neurologist sent to them, it’s her field and she should be able to handle the situation. But she has never done any housecall since she came. "You are new in the city, how will you get there?" he reminded.

"I’ll find my way. All I need is an address."

"Are you sure, Dr Thompson?"

"Yes chief," Dolly readily answered.

This was the opportunity she has been waiting for and it presented itself way earlier than she had dared to think.

Luckily, Dr Sullivan didn’t notice the excitement in her voice.

"Thanks, Dr Thompson," Dr Sullivan said in relief and quickly wrote down Steffan’s address on a notepad for her.

"Don’t mention, Chief. It’s the least I could do. Besides, Steffan is also my friend and had helped me several times in the past," she added righteously.

"Alright. I’m relieved. Now hurry along and tend to him."

And that was exactly what Dolly did as thirty minutes later, she found herself in front of the imposing gates of the Rosse’s villa.

She pressed the doorbell and not long after. the butler immediately went to usher in the doctor that everyone had been waiting for.

But when he opened the gate, he didn’t expect to see the stunning lady with long dark hair cascading over her shoulders and a doctor’s white coat draped over her ample bosom.

"I’m from Medstar Hospital and I’m here to see Steffan, I hear he’s not feeling well," Dolly said and waltzed past the stunned butler into the villa.

Dolly stared in awe at the grandeur of the villa which was breathtaking and exuding opulence as expected of the home of one of the first four prominent families in Baltimore.

Water cascaded gracefully from tier to tier from the magnificent fountains in the middle of the courtyard.

And as Dolly stepped through the ornate doorway into the building, she couldn’t help but imagine herself as the lady of the house, commanding such elegance and grace and didn’t wait for the butler who was supposed to lead the way.

Just like the butler, everyone was shocked when they saw the person that appeared in the living room.

"I thought you called a doctor, son?" Sarah whispered with dissatisfaction as she turned to glare at Stanley.

"I did call Dr Sullivan. I don’t know why she is here."

Sarah’s eyes suddenly turned cold as she continued to observe the greedy look on Dolly’s face. She could roughly guess what was going on in that depraved mind of hers.

"And just who do you think you are, barging into our home uninvited?" Sarah demanded, her eyes flashing with hostility.

Dolly’s reverie was abruptly shattered when she heard a sharp voice cut through the air like a knife and was startled to see the icy glare that was directed at her.

She quickly composed herself and lifted her chin defiantly. "I’m here to attend to Steffan," she replied evenly, refusing to be intimidated by Sarah’s demeanor.

She had long known the hatred and mistrust Steffan’s mom had for her. But what baffled her was that she did not know how and when she offended her.

Initially at the hospital she had tried to act nice since she was the mother of the man she loved, but it seems her efforts were not appreciated and over time, decided to be herself and never give a hoot about what she thinks or how she feels about her.

Afterall, she wasn’t the first daughter-in-law that would be hated by her mother-in-law, nor would she be the last.

Sarah’s lips curled into a sneer. "And why aren’t you the senior doctor we requested for?" she demanded, her tone accusatory.

"Maybe Dr Sullivan is too busy to come and decided to send me instead. But thanks all the same for the warm reception. Now where is Steff?" Dolly asked, not bothered about how bitchy she sounded at the moment.

Candace who always had something to say was rendered speechless twice in a day at what was unfolding before her.

Just then, David, who had been waiting for his eldest son to bring the doctor to see Steffan, appeared from Steffan’s room and saw Dolly.

A slight frown appeared on his face which he quickly discarded as he descended the stairs.

"Sarah, please let it be for now. Our son needs help urgently," he whispered so low that only Sarah heard what he said.

After a few seconds of inner struggles, Sarah reluctantly relented and stepped aside.

Turning to Dolly, David said gravely, "Doctor, please come with me, Steffan is upstairs."

"After you, Uncle," Dolly said with an innocent smile that was a sharp contrast to the one she had on earlier.

Upon reaching Steffan’s room, Dolly’s gaze swept over the luxurious furnishings and nodded with satisfaction.

But her admiration was short-lived as her attention was immediately drawn to Steffan, who lay on the expansive bed with his hands clasped tightly to his temples and his face contorted with pain.

Without hesitation, she hurried to his side and quickly brought out the medication she had brought with her, slipped it into his mouth and held a cup of water to his lips.

"Open up Steffan," she urged.

As she waited for the medication to take effect, she gently began to massage Steffan’s temples, her touch light yet firm.

"Steffan, can you hear me?" she asked softly, after a couple of minutes.

Steffan nodded weakly, his breaths coming in shallow gasps as he struggled against the pain.

She could feel the tension gradually melting away beneath her touch and soon enough, Steffan’s breathing steadied and his features began to relax.

"What exactly happened?" She asked again after she noticed that Steffan had finally drifted off to sleep.

"He tried to forcefully recall something which we warned him against and ended in this state," David said.

"May I know what that was? Dolly asked in a professional tone.

David didn’t know how to explain that his son’s fiancée forced a kiss on him because of an argument which caused him to suddenly go berserk.

"That’s our family matter. What does it have to do with you? Do your job and get lost," Sarah’s voice sounded from the doorway.

Dolly’s nose flared and she deliberately increased the pressure on her fingers that were still massaging Steffan’s head.

A slight groan came from the bed and everyone turned to stare at Steffan whose face showed signs of discomfort.

"Hey, it’s okay. Now relax, just like that, good," Dolly coaxed, in a soft soothing voice as she gradually reduced the pressure of her fingers.

After Steffan’s face finally relaxed, she continued with her inquiry as if she had not been interrupted just now.

"So what was he trying to recall?" She asked again, this time, her gaze was on Sarah’s face as if she was throwing her a challenge.

"Let’s see whether it is my damned business or not," her eyes seemed to be saying.

Although it wasn’t necessary to know the details of what triggered Steffan’s memory, she still wanted to make them feel her presence and how important she was.

And if they are not careful enough, they shouldn’t blame her if she decides to become a live-in nurse or doctor as the case may be.

Sarah broke her gaze from Dolly’s evil ones and for some time, it alternated between Steffan who was sleeping soundly under the bewitching hands of Dolly and her husband who was seeking her opinion from the look in his eyes.
