THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 324: That’s How You Used To Welcome Me
"Now what?" Steffan asked warily as he saw her approaching him.
Lauren’s eyes held a challenging glint as she locked gaze with Steffan. "Don’t you want to know how you used to welcome me?"
Sarah gasped and called out softly to Lauren. "Lauren, dear."
"Relax mom, I know what I’m doing," Lauren said without breaking eye contact with Steffan.
Sarah turned to her husband for his opinion but he just waved, "Let the girl be, Sarah."
Everyone watched silently as Lauren reached out her hand and pulled Steffan up from his seat.
"How old are you, Doctor Steffan Rosse?" She suddenly asked throwing everyone into confusion, including Steffan whose eyes instantly narrowed to slits
At Steffan’s silence, Lauren smirked. "May I remind you that you are no longer twenty eight but thirty four?"
"At your age you should have already been a father to a child as old as Danny, but look at you. Instead of behaving like an elder that you are, you’re busy arguing with your little nephew as if he was your age mate."
"Can you grow up for once and stop giving your parents things to worry about all day?"
She didn’t give Steffan any breathing space to say whatever it was that he wanted to say but continued with her scolding.
"Do you know what they went through, waiting tirelessly for hours by that theater door just for you to come out alive?"
"And when you eventually came out, do you know how long they sat by your bedside waiting, praying that you would pull through the darkness you were trapped in?"
"Then when you finally woke up, do you know how pained and hurt they feel each time they needed to say no to you because they are scared of the unknown? Of the possible consequences if you are not handled with care if they rush your recovery?"
"At this point Lauren’s eyes were already simmering with tears, but she successfully held them back as she continued on her quest.
"Now you suddenly feel that they are treating you like a child just because they don’t want to fulfill your selfish requests?"
He didn’t know why but he seemed to be held under a spell by a force emanating from that voice that kept going on and on, nonstop.
"Well let me tell you this," Lauren’s expression suddenly turned brutish. "I am not one of your parents nor am I your sibling, so I don’t give a hoot about what happens to you afterwards."
"So do you still want to know how the former Steffan, who had all his memory intact, used to welcome me?"
Steffan shook his head, no longer interested in whatever way he used to welcome her in the past.
Maybe he even used to drive her away since he had never had anything to do with any woman.
Or would simply wave at her with a smile just to please his nephew, who seemed to like her so much. But whichever way, he doesn’t want to know again.
Moreover the way Lauren was going about it was making him feel very uncomfortable to keep insisting on knowing.
So he stepped back unconsciously. He was somehow scared of the current Lauren.
She was different from the one that visited and even played a couple of games with him in the hospital after her first visit where he discovered they loved playing the same game.
Seeing the reluctance in Steffan’s eyes, mingled with another emotion that Lauren could not describe, Lauren’s lip curled cynically as she pulled him against herself and directly planted a fierce kiss on his lips.
Initially, Steffan was taken aback and tried to pull away but some force greater han his strength kept him transfixed, rendering powerless, completely at her mercy.
He didn’t know if it was the fresh minty taste from her that exploded in his mouth, taking over his senses or the fact that he had never kissed a woman before and wanted to try out the experience, but somehow, he found himself gradually dissolving into the sweetness of that kiss.
Just when he was starting to get into the flow and probably planned to take control, Lauren suddenly pulled away and with that came a sudden sense of loss.
That’s how you used to welcome me, asshole," Lauren declared to only Steffan’s hearing. And with a mocking laugh, turned on her heels and directly walked out of the house, leaving behind a rumpled Steffan- because at that moment, nothing was straight in his mind.
Everyone: ’..."
"What was that?" Stanley, who had finally recovered from the spellbinding performance by Lauren, turned to his wife whose mouth still hung agape in shock. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
Sarah was not different as the hand she covered Danny’s eyes with had been pried open by him without her knowledge.
Only David, her husband, had a slight smile on his face as his gaze followed Lauren’s bold strides as she left the house.
Steffan found the closest seat nearby and slumped into it, his mind still trying to process what had just happened.
Does it mean what she did just now was actually what Danny meant by his way of saying hi?
Or did that woman just take advantage of him just now in the presence of his entire family?
Why did he not push her away like he usually does to other women who had tried to act reckless with him in the past?
And instead of pushing her away, why did he enjoy the kiss and seemed to be sad when it ended abruptly?
Questions, questions, questions. No answers. What is going on with me?
He ran a hand through his hair and stopped at the place where the little plaster was still placed to cover the stitches and suddenly he felt a throbbing headache coming.
Clasping his head in between his two palms he bowed his head and let out a faint groan.
The agonizing sound coming from him brought everyone back to their senses as they all rushed to his side in panic.
"Steffan,"
"Son, are you alright?"
