THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 298: A Thousand Lifetimes To Be Shameless Together.
"You had better have a convincing explanation for showing up late again." Kathleen scolded Lauren whose reflection she had seen from the mirror as she tried to sneak into the room.
It’s been over a year since their wedding and everyone had been busy preparing for Shawn and Kathleen’s baby shower which was today and yet her supposed best friend chose a few minutes to the ceremony to finally show up.
"Are you still my best friend? Infact, I’m seriously considering giving that title to someone else," Kathleen threatened.
"No, no, no, you can’t," Lauren pleaded.
"I’m just coming back from prison," she explained.
Kathleen’s angry expression was instantly replaced with concern as she turned around to face Lauren. "Prison?! Were you in jail? Who did you kill?"
"What are you thinking, dumbass?" Lauren smacked Kathleen’s hands that had started examining her body. "Does pregnancy really make one this screwed up?" Lauren asked in fear.
Kathleen glared at her. "Who is screwed up? If not for my condition now, I would have twisted your mouth."
"Now tell me, what business did you have in the prison and why didn’t you tell Cheryl about it?"
"I had no business there. I only heard that Linda Beazell was trying to escape from prison and was caught in the process."
"So?"
"Nothing much. Just that she got shot mistakenly and is now dead."
After a brief pause, Kathleen shrugged and went back to face her mirror. She didn’t want to spare even a second of her precious time thinking about or discussing such a useless topic like Linda.
"I heard that she was trying to escape with a hostage, that’s why she was shot,"
"How come I’m always the last person who gets to hear about what is going on In this city?"
"That’s because you’re now old and we need to watch the information that comes to you so that your blood pressure doesn’t rise," Lauren teased.
"Really!"
"Mm-hmm."
"You know what gladdens my heart?" Kathleen asked with a mysterious smile. "One day you’ll also be this old," she said pointing to her seven months old baby bump .
"And I’ll be a good friend and help you filter the information that comes to you as well." 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
"But my only fear for now is that I might wake up one day and find out that I have been sold off."
"Who would dare sell off the Almighty Mrs Shawn Hudson? Not to mention your family or your husband, your mother in-law alone will wring that person dry and ensure that the destiny of that person is ruined no matter where he hides in all the four corners of the earth.
Kathleen smiled sweetly. "That’s true, Joanne’s 360 degree change has shocked everyone, including myself."
She was now the sweetest soul on earth and had become Kathleen’s number one fan, coming to see her daily to ask about her welfare.
Her grandchildren doubtless got their share of her extravagant love and beyond the one month punishment given to her then, she had even gone a step further by making it a point of duty to deliver lunch daily to the children in school, claiming that she doesn’t want them to eat cold food, as if that would ever happen.
"So tell me, what’s up, you look more happier than I, the celebrant."
Lauren clasped and unclasped her hands before she turned Kathleen’s swivel chair around to face her.
"Well, there might actually be two sets of honeymooners this year..."
"No way!" Kathleen screamed. "Did he finally propose?"
"Mm-hmm," Lauren beamed, brandishing a ringed finger from her back.
Kathleen’s eyes sparkled with joy as she admired the exquisite engagement ring adorning Lauren’s finger.
The ring gleamed in the soft glow of the afternoon sun, its diamonds catching the light and casting a dazzling array of colors.
"It’s absolutely stunning, Lauren!" Kathleen exclaimed, unable to contain her excitement. "I’m so happy for you!"
Lauren beamed with delight, her cheeks flushed with happiness as she also admired the ring. "Thank you, Kathleen!" she gushed.
"I still can’t believe it myself. Steffan proposed last night, and it was the most magical moment of my life."
Kathleen enveloped her friend in a warm embrace, her heart overflowing with happiness for Lauren.
"I’m thrilled for you both," she said sincerely. "You deserve all the love and happiness in the world."
Kathleen was thrilled that Steffan was able to move on and his relationship with Shawn had also been restored.
"Hey, ladies, it’s time to..." Shawn stopped as he saw the two friends and hurried over to pull Lauren from his pregnant wife but Steffan who had followed him in, beat him to it.
"Kathleen is pregnant, sweetheart and can’t handle your weight," he coaxed as he gently pulled Lauren to himself.
"Steffan is right, you shouldn’t allow so much weight on the baby," Shawn added as an explanation for the curious look Kathleen threw in his direction.
The two women were speechless as they stared at the two men who were acting strange.
One was a spoilt jealous husband and the other a clueless boy in love.
’What part of their eyes saw her resting her weight on Kathleen’s stomach?’
Anyway, she wasn’t about to worry her pretty head over them.
With that, Lauren swaggered out of the room with Steffan following close behind her heels.
Kathleen shook her head at the lovestruck Steffan.
"Isn’t he cute?"
"You are not allowed to compliment other men," Shawn said with a stern face.
"Don’t tell me you are jealous," Kathleen laughed.
"Over who? I’m just saying that, so that you don’t influence our daughter’s character."
"Really? And who told you it’s going to be a daughter."
"I just know it. She’s so obedient and never disturbs you. Besides, you look more irresistible by the day."
"Meaning?"
"She has generously shared her charms with you. So, it can only be a girl."
Kathleen threw back her head and exploded in laughter.
"How did you ever come up with that analogy?"
"Fatherhood intuition. It takes only a loving father and an awesome husband like me to know that."
"Awesome husband indeed," Kathleen sneered. "How come I didn’t know that?"
"Do you want me to jog your memory?" Shawn said, leaning in. "I don’t mind delaying the baby shower for another hour if that will be enough to make you remember how awesome I am."
"Shameless," Kathleen pushed him away before he could get any closer.
"I love being shameless around you, but thanks anyways for the compliment, sweetheart," Shawn said as he helped Kathleen to her feet.
Kathleen raised her fingers and traced the exquisite handsome face of her husband, as they stood facing each other,
"It’s so unfortunate that I love this shameless man so much and don’t mind being shameless with him, either," Kathleen admitted.
"Fortunately, we have a thousand lifetimes to be shameless together," Shawn said as their lips joined together in a passionate kiss that did more than communicate their innermost feelings for each other.
THE END.
