THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 294: Who Do You Think Their Father Is?
"Smack! Smack!" In the blink of an eye two tight slaps descended on both sides of Linda’s cheeks in quick successions.
Everywhere went quiet and one could literally hear a pin drop at the silence that ensued.
"I let you go six years ago because I couldn’t get evidence, not because I didn’t know that you were the one behind it. But you still have the gut to ceaselessly defame me. And now you dare call my children bastards?"
Kathleen’s tone was cold enough to send a chill down anyone’s spin. And the aura emanating from her at that moment was so intimidating that those mouths that were running ceaselessly became shut instantly.
Nobody dared utter another word as they saw how the previously calm and quiet woman that didn’t look like the one they were dicing, suddenly turned furious, seething with rage.
After the slap, Linda’s cheeks were as red as a monkey’s butt, and she was shivering with fright.
She darted her eyes around and none of those people who had been castigating Kathleen with her said anything, probably out of fear from the oppressive aura emanating from Kathleen.
"For your information, they have a father and do you know who their father is?" Kathleen uttered through gritted teeth.
She removed the mask on the children’s faces and everywhere went wild.
"Now you tell me, who do you think their father is?" Kathleen demanded in a fierce tone.
Linda was totally astounded and her eyes popped out of their sockets, it appeared as if they would fall out any moment.
"Oh my gosh," someone exclaimed as soon as the children’s faces were exposed. "These children are so cute."
"I don’t think I’ve seen such good looking and adorable children in a long while. How can they be considered ugly monsters?"
Someone said, "Why do I have the impression that their faces look familiar? Even the domineering aura around the little boy is also very familiar?"
"Hold on everyone, am I the only one seeing that they look so much like President Hudson of Hudson Corporations?"
"But President Hudson is not married?"
"Did you forget the news that trended for weeks on end about the courthouse romance? She is definitely the woman President Hudson was embracing in the picture."
"I also remember him saying that he was there for a close family member?"
"Doesn’t that mean that these children are..." someone began but was interrupted midway.
"They are obviously my great grandchildren. Can’t you see they are a splitting image of my grandson?"
A powerful voice sounded from the side and everyone turned to the source of the voice.
"And who was it that dared to call the children of the Hudson family bastards?" Old Mrs Hudson continued as they made way for her to get closer. Her voice resonated with unwavering authority, each word weighty as the golden stick in her hand struck the ground loudly.
If Kathleen had not brought the children to see her a few days back, she wouldn’t know of their existence and she had barely recovered from the joy of being a great grandmother when someone else was busy bullying them. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
All eyes turned to look at Linda who was about to sneak away.
If there was anybody Linda feared more than Shawn in the Hudson family, it was old Mrs Hudson.
Old Mrs Hudson had never liked her and from day one never cared to hide her hatred and displeasure with her since she got to know that she had been interfering in Shawn’s marriage.
There was nothing she ever did that could move old Mrs Hudson’s heart as all she did was to always find fault with her.
Now that she had witnessed her calling her great grandchildren names, she was sure her own was completely over.
When she discovered she couldn’t escape, she had no choice but to put up her best act.
"Plop!" she went down on her knees at the drop of a hat, pretended to wipe off a non-existent tear from her eyes and pleaded in her most innocent voice.
"Grandmother, I admit I was wrong about the children just now. I thought..."
"Taa!" Old Mrs Hudson spat in indignation. "Who is your grandmother? And how come I can’t remember having such a green eyed witch like you as a granddaughter?"
Her face turned dark with anger. "How dare you point fingers at Kathleen? Can you compare with even a strand of her hair or any part of her body? Is it your foul character or your despicable conniving nature that you would want to compare with her pure heart?" Old Mrs Hudson scolded fiercely, her tone exuding a rare aura that demanded instant attention and respect.
"Is that truly Old Mrs Hudson? I heard she has been sick and confined to the bed for over a year now. How come she’s suddenly here?"
"That’s true, but she had always been known to be a kind soul to everyone. How come she is suddenly so aggressive with Ms Beazell?"
"If you were the one, would you take it lightly with someone who doubts the paternity of your great grandchildren and even called your grandson a wild man?"
One bold reporter used the opportunity to step forward and with a fawning smile turned to old Mrs Hudson who was stil seething with rage as she glared at Linda.
"Old Mrs Hudson. It’s great seeing you up and well after so many years."
"Why the sudden pretense to see me? If I didn’t show up would you have done anything to defend Kathleen and my poor great grandchildren?" She fired back at those heartless reporters who were only concerned about making money by selling stories that had little or no truth in them.
She was still baffled why Director Wyatt would allow them attend such an important event.
"We are sorry old Mrs Hudson. We were only led astray by Ms Beazell here and we would have confirmed..."
"And how many times have you been led astray to report baseless lies from black hearted specimens in the past?" Old Mrs Hudson cut in sarcastically.
Everyone knew without being told who old Mrs Hudson was referring to as black hearted specimens and they turned to cast Linda a disgusting look.
"I’m sure Ms Beazell won’t be able to survive what is coming this time around," someone scoffed.
Out of nowhere a voice cut through the noise and at the same time a screen turned on in the hall.
"Ms Beazzell. I’ve taken the pictures you instructed me to take but I couldn’t bring myself to sleep with her."
It was a slightly built, but average looking man with facial hairs and appeared to be in his late forties.
’He looks familiar,’ Kathleen said to herself as she watched the screen. ’Where did I see him?’ She mused as she tried to jog her memory.
Suddenly it clicked, it was the strange man from six years ago that was on the bed beside her in the private rooom at the Golden Club.
"What are you saying? After paying you that huge amount of money you dare go back on our agreement? Watch me bring down your lousy company, Mr Kent." Linda’s malicious voice cut through the hall and the camera moved to display Linda on the screen looking all ferocious.
"You can’t do this to me, afterall, I played my part in deceiving President Hudson very well, he never suspected that I didn’t sleep with his wife."
"What I paid you for was to sleep with his wife and not to make it look like it. How dare you do otherwise?" Linda scolded angrily.
"It was because I love you so much and couldn’t bring myself to sleep with anyone else after having a taste of you. I couldn’t just ignore what we shared together," the man explained pathetically. "Please, don’t do anything to my company. I won’t be able to survive it."
"Shut up you dimwit. You should have thought about it before flaunting my orders."
"And as for loving me, I’ve only been using you, Shawn is the only man I love and he can only be mine, if I can’t have him nobody will. Now get out of my sight."
Everyone had a shocked expression on their faces.
"So she did all these because she wants to be with President Hudson?"
"Ms Beazell is really such a despicable person. Here she was accusing someone of not having any moral standing when she was even worse."
"She has always had her eyes on President Hudson and plotted to separate them so that she can step in as his wife."
"From what I heard, President Hudson does not give a hoot about her."
"It was quite obvious from how he dealt with Mrs Beazell in the courtroom."
"Of course who will have such an outstanding beauty like Ms Crawford and still go after someone as conniving and ugly like Linda Beazell?"
"Look at them Kathleen, the same people that wanted to swallow you whole just now have suddenly switched sides."
"I sometimes wonder how they don’t get dizzy at the way they switch sides and twist the truth." Cheryl took the kids hands and walked away with them cursing indignantly.
"Bunch of fickle minded losers!"
Jason came rushing in at that minute, looking very worried.
"I hope you are alright, Sis? I heard you’ve been bullied so badly and to think I wasn’t even there to help you."
"I’m Ok, brother, or do I look like someone who could be bullied easily? Where are mom and dad?"
"They’ll be down soon. Come with me," Jason said, taking her hands.
Kathleen looked towards old Mrs Hudson.
"Go ahead, dear. I’ll be fine here."
"Please take care of Nana for me," Kathleen said to Lauren before leaving with Jason.
