THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 293: The Amethyst Enigma
Out of the crowd, a beautiful lady with long black hair cascading down her waist, walked over. She had a composed charm around her that reflected her noble background.
Her cold gaze swept through the crowd and rested on Linda Beazell, who was already looking for a hole to hide in from embarrassment.
A gasp escaped Kathleen’s mouth. ’Godmother, why was she here today?’
She walked to where Kathleen was standing and smiled gently at her. "You look so stunning today, dear."
"But I’m not happy with you. You ran off without even informing me the last time you came to Los Angeles. Am I that unimportant to you?" Elizabeth Harper, complained.
Yes, she was Kathleen’s godmother, the same woman who had survived the plane crash with Kathleen, who had helped her and taken her in during her pregnancy before reuniting Kathleen with her biological parents with the help of Professor Gaius.
"I’m sorry Godmother. I was forced to come back by mom and dad and my brother didn’t help either; he couldn’t wait to dump the company responsibility on me. But I’ve missed you terribly."
"Don’t try to sweet talk me out of scolding you. I’ll only forgive you as today is your special day."
"Thanks, godmother," Kathleen said.
"Whatever," Elizabeth waved dismissively. "Where’s Jason?"
"He stepped out briefly for some business and will be back soon."
They were chatting as if there was no one else around them.
"Godmother, please come and have a seat, let me get you something to drink." Kathleen offered, suddenly remembering her manners.
"Don’t bother yourself, dear, I’ll just go and see your mother first."
With that Elizabeth excused herself to go in search of Stacy, her best friend.
Someone approached Kathleen as soon as Elizabeth walked away.
"Please, kindly permit me to examine your pendant, Ms Crawford," she asked politely.
Kathleen just shrugged and the lady’s eyes widened after a few seconds of looking closely at the pendant.
"This is no ordinary pendant!" she exclaimed.
"That’s definitely true," a fashion reporter affirmed. "I just saw that the pendant looked similar to "The Amethyst Enigma’’ Ellee designed six years ago for her goddaughter. So I decided to search it up on the internet after that noble lady spoke and like magic, it turned out to be the exact pendant. Doesn’t that make the lady that just walked away Ellee, the renowned designer?"
"She appears to be well acquainted with Ms Crawford."
"That’s true," another guest nodded. "Who doesn’t know that Ellee doesn’t associate much with people except that person is extremely close or a business associate. It is even rumored that it is her assistant that interfaces for her and doesn’t accept orders directly."
"I also heard Ms Crawford refer to her several times as "godmother." Could she be the said goddaughter?"
"Don’t tell me that I just met my idol, Ellee in real life. Quick, someone should slap me and tell me that I’m not dreaming." It was a top jeweler that shrieked in excitement.
At her reaction everyone burst out in laughter.
"That means Ms Beazell just slapped herself in the face, calling the pendant fake."
The moment it was established that Kathleen was Elizabeth’s goddaughter, Kathleen was bombarded with a barrage of questions from the reporters and other guests.
"Is that really Ellee, the renowned jeweler?" an upcoming jeweler asked, her eyes glinting with excitement.
"Yes, she is," confirmed Kathleen.
"We never heard of Ellee having a goddaughter until six years ago, how did you suddenly become that goddaughter?"
"Your parents must be very prestigious for you to be Ellee’s goddaughter. May we know who your parents are?"
"Can you help me get an autograph from Elee? Please," the top jeweler who was a die hard fan of Elizabeth begged.
It is rightly said that when someone is doomed for destruction, even the gods will not be able to save them.
That was the case with people like Linda- they never learn their lessons from one incident.
She was green with envy at the amount of attention Kathleen was getting and coupled with how things have refused to go her way since she started attacking Kathleen, she decided to release her joker card.
Thus as Kathleen was still thinking about how to respond to the strings of questions that were being fired at her, Linda’s mocking voice rang out,
"Kathleen, why are you still pretending to be so important when we both know what sort of woman you really are?"
"Haven’t you had enough, Ms Beazell? Why do you keep targeting me?" Kathleen said in what appeared to be a helpless voice but inwardly, she just wanted Linda to release all her cards, so that when she feels she’s gaining the upper hand, she will swiftly pull the rug from under her feet.
"Just ignore her. She’s obviously jealous of you, I guess," Cheryl, who had just arrived with the children, scoffed contemptuously.
"How can I be jealous of a two timing bitch like Kathleen?" Linda shot back.
She believed with the help of the Mayor, even Cheryl would not be able to do anything to her, so she threw caution to the wind.
All she needed to do was maintain her claims and the real truth would be twisted beyond recognition.
"What could Ms Beazell possibly mean by her statement?" someone asked
"Tsk! Are you still taking her words seriously? All she’s done since she came is look for ways to make trouble for Ms Crawford," the lady that had asked for an autograph said with disdain.
She believed that anyone that her idol associated with deserved her respect and support.
"You are right. I wonder how Ms Crawford had offended her."
"Now that you mentioned it, I remember that there was a certain Ms Crawford that was responsible for sending Mrs Beazell to jail a few months ago," a reporter pointed out.
"I now understand, could it be that Ms Beazell is trying to seek Justice for a murderer?" another reporter threw in and everywhere exploded with mocking laughter.
"You can laugh all you want but that doesn’t change the fact that she is still a bitch who is not satisfied with just one man," Linda spat out in anger.
"And what do you mean by that?" Someone else asked out of curiosity. It’s not like what Linda would say will not be later debunked by Ms Crawford who she was beginning to find more awesome by the minute.
"Oh you didn’t know, she was caught cheating on her husband, and got chased out of her husband’s house." Mabel Winters, Linda’s estranged friend whispered loudly.
Maybe she felt this was her opportunity to make up for the way she had abandoned Linda in her most difficult times, but unfortunately, Linda was an unforgiving conniving person who cares little about her belated so-called help.
But for the moment, she would still make do with any help she could get to completely defeat Kathleen, so she gave Mabel a fake grateful smile.
There was an audible gasp from the crowd as someone asked in disbelief. "Is that so? But she appears so innocent, no wonder she has all those strange connections."
Kathleen looked over and saw that the person was another one of Linda’s lackeys in the past.
"One should really not be carried away by beauty."
"Haven’t you heard that you can’t judge a book by its cover, it might appear beautiful outside but rotten inside."
"She doesn’t deserve to mingle with nobles like us. Someone, quick, throw her out before she contaminates everyone," one of the women who have come specifically to match her daughter with President Jason ordered. She had long been displeased with the way President Jason was acting affectionately with Kathleen.
"But she has connections with President Jason and Ellee the Jeweler, won’t we be offending them?" Someone asked cautiously.
"They probably don’t know her true color, that’s why they can still associate with her," answered Mabel Winters.
"That’s right Mabel," Linda smiled and her eyes took in the presence of the masked boy beside Kathleen, whom she had heard calling Kathleen "mom" faintly.
"Don’t be fooled by her, she even gave birth to two bastards from a wild man after leaving her husband’s house and is probably hiding their faces because they are too ugly to be seen by people," Linda scorned.
"What?! She got laid by another man that was not her husband," one person asked in a tone laced with disgust.
"Do you dare to say that again?" Lauren jumped out of nowhere and challenged.
Those were her precious godchildren that they were talking about, and she was not someone to take shit from anybody.
She had just entered the hall and was looking for Kathleen to apologize to her for coming late and did not expect to see that Kathleen was facing such a battle in her own party.
She gestured to Cheryl but she tried to calm her down as she believed in doing things the legal way.
However, she, Lauren was not a patient person, especially when it comes to defending her loved ones.
Linda’s nose curled up in disdain with an expression that seemed to be saying "And who is this riffraff?" and turned her attention back to Kathleen almost immediately.
"Let me see how you can still remain arrogant after you and your bastards are thrown out." Linda said triumphantly, looking very smug like someone who has just won a medal.
"Smack! Smack!" In the blink of an eye two tight slaps descended on both sides of Linda’s cheeks in quick successions.
Everywhere went quiet and one could literally hear a pin drop at the silence that ensued.
