THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 257: You Don’t Need To Be Hard On Yourself
As soon as she was within arms length, she caught Kathleen in a tight embrace.
"Thank God you are fine," she said. "If anything had happened to you, I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself for the rest of my life."
Kathleen understood the burden of the guilt Cheryl felt and only by talking about it would she be relieved.
But she also understood the purpose behind her actions. It was rare to get Jason to spend some time with her as a busy president. So each time she gets the opportunity, she has to fully maximize it to their benefit.
However, after today’s incident, she doubts if Cheryl will make such a demand again in the future.
"You don’t need to be so hard on yourself," Kathleen began.
"No, you don’t need to sweet talk me, Janice. If I didn’t force Jason to turn off his phones, he would have been there early enough to help and none of this would have happened, especially to President Hudson."
"I’ve said, you don’t need to blame yourself. Am I not fine now and Shawn, successfully operated upon and rescued?" ’At least for now,’ she added inwardly.
The most crucial period was the next few hours before he wakes up.
Although she would have loved to personally monitor his vital signs, pain level, and recovery process while he was still unconscious she was physically drained herself and needed some time out, even if it was for a few minutes, as Johnson had rightly pointed out.
She had barely rested when she had traveled out, and thought she could rest when she got home, but didn’t expect to fall into the hands of those kidnappers right after disembarking from the plane.
"How is President Hudson?"
"He is still unconscious but he will be fine," Kathleen said so that Cheryl’s mind can be at peace.
"Are you sure you want to continue with this conversation?"
Cheryl’s brow raised in confusion and Jason drew her attention to the bag in her hand with a slight tilt of his head.
"Hurry up, Janice. Go refresh yourself and take some rest. We will talk later when you are fully rested." Cheryl pushed Kathleen towards the special room Shawn was lying in.
Before slipping into the bathroom, she glanced at Shawn’s figure on the bed through the glass partitioning.
The room was partitioned into two parts. The part where Shawn lay, had been separated from the rest by a transparent glass structure. The second part was where a small bedroom and bathroom was.
He was surrounded by various gadgets and numerous tubes connected to different parts of his body.
Her throat constricted into a tight knot when she remembered the circumstances that plunged him into this state.
"Maybe I’m the one that would be lying down there in your place or probably in the morgue by now if you have not intercepted that bullet."
Before breaking down again, she hurried into the bathroom, however, she was unable to stop the tears that started pouring down her cheeks.
She quickly finished her business in the bathroom and before long she was out.
After changing into the set of clothes Cheryl had brought for her, she wore the sterilized gown, cap and gloves placed on the drawer before finally entering the part of the room where Shawn lay.
She ran a hand through his calm handsome face, and couldn’t help admiring his striking features which seemed not to have been affected in the least.
She changed the direction and action of her hand to check on his vitals and other signs when she noticed the gaze from the male doctor that had been asked to keep watch over Shawn.
When she was convinced that everything was in order, she sat down beside Shawn’s bed for a few minutes.
She reluctantly retired back to the small bedroom, when she could hardly keep her eyes open for less than a minute but not before drumming it in the ears of the doctor to wake her up if he senses anything. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
The doctor nodded enthusiastically. Afterall, it was not every day that one had the opportunity to interact with such a drop dead gorgeous beauty.
Even without makeup, he realized that she could still make the most beautiful actress pale in comparison with her.
Besides he had been warned not to do anything that will offend or irritate the woman before him as she was someone he couldn’t afford to offend.
He wondered who she was to command such respect and attention. She was probably the wife of this big shot or a model, but he had never seen her in any magazine or show.
It never crossed his mind for once that she was the renowned Dr Janice that most doctors wished to see even if it was once in their lifetime.
**********
Kathleen woke up with a start in an unfamiliar bed and environment.
She peered around, wondering where she was, until the events of the previous day came rolling back.
She took a look at the new cell phone she had seen among the things Cheryl brought for her and realized she had slept for about three hours.
The first thought that came to her mind was Shawn.
After quickly brushing her teeth and splashing some water on her face to clear the grogginess, she went to check on Shawn in her sterilized gig.
This time, she had on, a faint smile as she greeted the doctor who was still there.
"Did anything happen while I was away?"
"Nothing Madam," the doctor responded with a smile, however, his was a bit more pronounced.
"You can go stretch yourself a little, I will take over from here," Kathleen said as she went to the heart monitoring machine.
"Thanks for your kindness, Madam, but I’m sorry to disobey you. I was instructed that a doctor must always be by the side of the patient. And the doctor to replace me is not yet here," he carefully explained, afraid to offend her.
