Chapter 256: Time Is Of Essence

"Can you now take something?" Jason asked Kathleen who had resumed her gaze on the theater light.

"And don’t tell me you don’t want to, otherwise I will call Mr and Mrs Wyatt right away," he threatened.

Kathleen shot Jason an embittered look.

"Do you need to do this?"

"I have no choice, Sis. You forced me yourself."

Jason signaled to Johnson who handed over the snacks and coffee he had gotten from the café not too far from the hospital.

After being threatened by her brother, Kathleen had no choice but to reluctantly accept the snack and coffee.

The last thing she wanted was for her father and mother to come rushing back and start fusing over her like a baby.

She brought the cup to her mouth and slowly took a sip after receiving a warning look from Jason.

About forty five minutes later, Kathleen’s head jerked up from her brother’s shoulder when the theater door suddenly opened and Dr Sullivan came out.

"What is going on?" She demanded impatiently.

"We encountered some complications and we will need more blood."

"What kind of complications, doctor? Don’t tell me you can’t handle such a simple surgery? You should have allowed me to take part in the first place."

Understanding how she felt at the moment, Dr Sullivan tried to explain the situation.

"Thankfully, the bullet narrowly missed the heart, but some blood vessels were damaged by the bullet which resulted in internal bleeding."

"So?"

"The problem now is that the blood donated earlier will not be enough, so we need to get more blood but we can’t ask the young man to donate again as that would exceed the daily limit required from a donor."

"Take mine," Kathleen quickly volunteered.

"Yours? We will have to screen it to know whether it matches," Dr Sullivan said.

"You know president Hudson’s blood type is AB negative. And presently in this hospital..."

"It will match," declared Kathleen, cutting off Dr Sullivan’s explanations. "It’s the same as my brother’s. We both have the golden blood type and that’s why I sent him earlier."

"Your brother?"

"Time is of essence here, doctor." Kathleen snapped.

"Of course," Dr Sullivan nodded and hurried off straight to the lab with Kathleen.

This was not the time to delve into his goddess’s bloodline and how she suddenly became President Jason’s sister. There will be plenty of time to ask her that in the future.

For now. Saving President Hudson’s life was more paramount.

***********

It was around 4am in the morning that Shawn was finally wheeled out of the theater.

Kathleen’s heart tightened when she saw the domineering and energetic president lying listless on the stretcher.

She raised her hands to touch him but withdrew it since she wasn’t sterile.

She could only follow from behind as they wheeled Shawn to the special emergency ward.

"If you have to stay with him, you need to clean up. I’ve called Cheryl to get a change of clothes for you."

She was grateful for her brother’s thoughtfulness and didn’t fail to express it.

"Thanks brother. What would I have done without you?"

"Tsk! Is there any need for that?" Jason smirked.

"Hurry up and freshen up, brother in-law might be needing you any moment from now," he teased.

"Nobody will think you are dumb if you don’t say something, you know." Kathleen nudged Jason playfully, as a fleeting smile appeared on her face.

Jason was greatly relieved when he saw her very first smile since he came to the hospital the previous night. Though it didn’t last for long, it was enough to gladden his heart.

Kathleen stopped in her track and turned to Johnson who was following behind with a serious expression.

"Mr Johnson, you can go back and get some rest," Kathleen suggested. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

After all the shoot out with the kidnappers at the warehouse, he must be exhausted after not blinking a wink throughout the night.

"I’m fine here, Madam." He dared not agree to such a suggestion, tempting as it may be.

How would he then qualify as a trustworthy assistant who was willing to stand by his boss in the good and the bad times.

Besides, the person he was doing this for was someone whom he has been working with and spending most of his hours with for the past fifteen years.

Doubtless a bond beyond the usual boss-servant ties had established between them after working together through thick and thin. He was even closer to his boss than his own family members.

"It would be best if you get some rest yourself. You have gone through a lot today as it is," he cleverly turned the suggestion back to his boss’s wife.

He could confidently say that she was a strong woman. After the ordeal she went through at the hands of the kidnappers, she was still standing strong throughout their wait in the hospital.

By now other women might have broken down completely, unable to cope with the stress.

When he noticed that Kathleen was about to refuse, he added.

"You might not have the strength to take care of the Boss when he wakes up if you don’t get some rest now," Johnson correctly pointed out.

"But you need to also rest," Kathleen insisted.

"What if we do it this way, Madam? I will stay and watch over him while you rest and as soon as he wakes up, I will inform you and you can tend to him."

Kathleen paused to consider the idea and found out that it actually made sense.

It was estimated that Shawn might probably not wake up till late that morning. She might as well use that time to take a nap after freshening up.

"Ok. I’ll go with your plan to rest first."

"Thank you Madam," Johnson finally let out a deep breath when she agreed as if Kathleen had just done him a huge favor.

Not long after, they heard footsteps hurrying towards their direction.

They both turned and saw Jason leading Cheryl to meet them.
