THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 254: I’m Sorry Sis
"Madam, is the boss alright?" Johnson asked, a sickening feeling settling down at the pit of his stomach.
"Madam, you are not saying anything." If it were someone else, he would have pushed her aside and found out for himself.
But the person he was dealing with was not only his boss’s wife but the heiress to Wyatt corporations. Not only that but she was a renowned doctor respected by all and sundry. No matter how powerful he was, he was only an assistant to a man who might probably be dead by now.
He shuddered instantly and dared not think of that possibility. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"Ma.."
"He is alive," was the succinct reply he got.
"He should be able to hold on till we arrive at the hospital," Kathleen informed Johnson and his hanging heart eventually returned to normal.
"Get my brother on the phone for me," Kathleen ordered as she ripped apart Shawn’s shirt. She wrapped it over the wound and around his chest to stop the bleeding until he could receive proper medical care.
As soon as the call was connected, Johnson put it on speaker and held the phone closer to Kathleen.
"Mr Johnson, how is my sister? Have you been able to locate her? I just got the message from your boss and I’m on my way as we speak," Jason said in one go.
"No need to bother coming over." Kathleen’s clipped tone sounded just as Jason was getting more excited.
"Oh.. Sis. Is that really you?" Jason asked in relief. "Where are you and how are you?"
"If you still consider me as your sister, and want to see me, get your ass down to Medstar hospital and meet Dr Sullivan to draw a pint of your blood in the next five minutes."
"Sister, what do you need blood..." Before Jason could finish, he heard the dull beeping sound from his earpiece, signaling the end of the call.
He wanted to call back to confirm about her condition, but remembered the way she had ordered him just now. From her tone, she didn’t sound like the one who needed the blood.
"Wait! She said five minutes. How am I supposed to get to Medstar hospital in that short time?"
If there was any time he missed his sports car, it was now.
"I had better change my route, I can’t afford to offend her majesty. It is the least I could do since I wasn’t there when she needed me most."
Within ten minutes he pulled up at the entrance of Medstar hospital and narrowly missed the trolley that was pushing an unconscious patient into the emergency lift.
He hurried to Dr Sullivan’s office who was already waiting for him to take his blood.
He took a sample and gave it to the lab technician on standby to take it to the lab for screening and continued to draw the rest.
Before Kathleen got to the theater with Shawn, everything was set for the operation.
After ending the call with Jason earlier, she had called Dr Sullivan who assured her that everything will be arranged before she gets there.
Without hesitation, Kathleen signed the consent form and the surgery started.
As she already knew, Jason’s blood was safe and perfect for transfusion. Since they had the same blood type, she wasn’t worried about it being a perfect match but for Dr Sullivan’s mind to be at rest.
Although she could vouch for her brother’s lifestyle she just needed to fulfill the formalities needed for blood donation.
"Sis," Jason called softly when he saw Kathleen by the theater door.
As a close relative she wasn’t allowed to take part in the operation, besides, she was still shaken from her near death experience at the warehouse, so she could only wait outside for the other doctors to perform the operation.
"Thank goodness you are okay. When I saw the message from Shawn, my soul nearly jumped out of my body."
Kathleen looked away when she saw Jason.
"So why were you not there to save me?" You only started coming when everything was over. Do you know how long I waited for someone to come to my rescue?"
"I’m sorry, Sis." Jason was stricken with guilt and bowed his head in shame.
The only time his sister needed his help, he was nowhere to be found. What if something terrible had happened to her before she was rescued?
He shook his head vigorously as he couldn’t bring himself to think of the awful possibility.
"Please find it in your LARGE heart to forgive me?" he pleaded.
"I know it is not a good enough excuse but this afternoon, I went to Cheryl’s apartment and she forced me to turn off both my phones so that I don’t get distracted while we spent some time together. And by the time I eventually turned them back on, I saw the message from President Hudson."
Kathleen didn’t doubt his brother. She knew what Cheryl was capable of without being told.
"I didn’t even realize Shawn reached out to you in the first place," Kathleen became more disappointed with her love stricken brother.
"He did, and I’m sure your driver also tried to contact me but he couldn’t reach me," Jason confessed.
"Forget it. At least I’m safe now, but Shawn isn’t, " she said with a deep sigh.
"What happened to him?" Jason asked almost immediately.
"He blocked the bullet that would have ended my life and got shot in the chest. He is presently in the theater being rescued."
As she spoke, her voice wavered and all the pent up emotion she had been suppressing burst forth and her body shook with sobs.
Jason clasped his hands over her shoulders, drew her closer to himself and guided her to sit on the three seater chair adjacent to the theater door.
Seeing how broken his sister was, his heart hurt inexplicably and he tightened his grasp on her shoulders, wishing he could transfer the burden to himself.
