Chapter 140: Tormentors All Around Him.

"I thought I should trash it since the documents it contained are irrelevant matters," Johnson remarked righteously.

"Are you sure you still want your job? Go ahead and trash it then." Shawn’s face was as hard as a flint as he picked up another document from the table and started working on it.

Johnson sighed inwardly and carefully placed the file on the table. But before he turned back to leave, he did not fail to notice the important document his boss was seriously working on.

But what was strange about the whole thing was that it was turned upside down.

Is that a new reading style? How come I didn’t know about that? He stifled a grin and hurried out of the office to save his poor head.

As soon as Johnson left, Shawn flung the pen he held in his hands against the wall.

"Why can’t you give me a moment of peace Kathleen? It’s like you have positioned tormentors all around me that everywhere I turn, I can’t seem to get rid of you."

He glared at the file on the table.

After hesitating for almost a minute, he picked up the file. "Since he has already brought it, wouldn’t it be heartless of me to waste Johnson’s tireless effort?"

With that he opened the file and went through the details of the lawyer, nodding from time to time as he read on.

"Not bad, Kathleen, you have really done well for yourself. I must say the Wyatt’s do care about you."

"They didn’t spare any resources to make sure you got one of the best lawyers the country has ever produced."

"No wonder you don’t need my help. You have found yourself the best backing anyone could wish for."

A hysterical laugh rang through the empty office. "Shawn David Hudson, what a miserable wretch you are."

Shawn’s head jerked up and he saw a splitting image of himself standing tall and arrogant before him.

He had a disdainful smirk on his face as he looked down at him with one of his hands thrust in his left trouser pocket just like he usually does when he encounters a disgusting personality.

"Someone has succeeded in snatching your wife from you right under your nose and you can’t do anything about it."

"Who said he can’t do anything about it?" countered another version of him who was dressed in a white tracksuit.

"What can he do? jeered the first version of him that he decided to refer to as Arrogant Shawn. "Look at him, he is so pathetic and useless. Even if he were to put up a fight, does he have what it takes to win?"

"He may look pathetic and useless but all he needs to win is in the inside of him," argued Optimistic Shawn, his second version.

"And what are those?" sneered Arrogant Shawn. He was getting ready for a good laugh.

"He has the strength of his love, the fuel of hope, and the invincible weapon of sincerity."

"Tsk!" Snorted Arrogant Shawn. "A love that has failed in the face of adversity? A hope that has been dashed time and time again and a sincerity that has been trampled on without mercy?"

"What’s the use of all these when he can’t even lift the heart of the one he loves?"

A slight chuckle was heard from Optimistic Shawn. "Perseverance, my dear. "Seest thou a man diligent in his business, he shall stand before kings and not mean men," so the holy book says," he quoted.

"Here you go again. The holy book this, the holy book that... we are dealing with reality here," Arrogant Shawn mocked, the corners of his mouth turning up in disdain.

"Wise up and stop fooling him with your gibberish nonsense. Who cares what the holy book says. Has he not persevered enough?"

Optimistic Shawn nodded in agreement as he moved closer to the table. "You are right, he has persevered enough..."

"I knew I was right," boasted Arrogant Shawn.

But before he could continue in his boasting, Optimistic Shawn quickly cut in.

"...but don’t forget that even in nature, it is always darkest before the dawn, meaning, the tougher your challenge gets, the closer you are to your victory and season of joy."

Shawn’s gaze flickered between the two versions of himself who were arguing back and forth and didn’t know whether he was still alive or had crossed over to the other side due to his grief.

His eyes darted around and he confirmed that he was still in his office. The documents he was working on were all on the table and the scattered pieces of the pen he just flung on the wall were still on the wall to wall rug.

"Have I started hallucinating in addition to my present predicament?"

"Hey man, forget about this jerk and go after your love before another snatches her away. Moreover, where you are looking is not where your true rival is."

He turned around again but the image of Optimistic Shawn he expected to see was no longer there.

He was all alone in the office, even Arrogant Shawn was nowhere to be found.

He exhaled deeply and sat quietly back into his chair, not sure what to make of his life.

"Why has my life been reduced almost to that of a lunatic? And this is all because Kathleen."

He glanced at his phone on the table and fought hard as he resisted the urge to call her.

Before long, he began to ponder on what those two versions of himself had talked about.

What does Optimistic Shawn mean by where I am looking is not where my true rival is?

Is there someone else whom I am not aware of? What about President Jason, is he not the one Kathleen has that child with?

But she had never denied her relationship with Jason whenever I bring it up. She even confessed her love for him this morning at the Hudson Manor.

With this current situation he became more confused than ever.
