Chapter 139: Irrelevant Matters

Steffan’s expression was filled with disappointment as he stared at Dr Sullivan.

"Are you saying that it was a mere assumption when you said that my friend was impotent?"

"Yes, it was a mistake, and I don’t know how I will be able to face the other person. I was so carried away that I said so many shameful things to her,"

"That’s your shit to sort out, Chief."

Steffan stamped down his frustration as he left Dr Sullivan’s office.

If not that the person before him was an elder, he would have punched him in the face directly. Why would he arrive at such a baseless conclusion when he was supposed to know better?

Is it because his age is getting the better of him? Even then, he wasn’t that old for starters. He was barely sixty and already behaving like a demented old man 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

On the other hand, Steffan couldn’t suppress the joy in his heart when he got to know that Shawn was okay in that aspect.

At least with that even though Kathleen decides not to continue with her marriage with Shawn, it will not be difficult for Shawn to find pleasure somewhere else.

He wanted to call Kathleen but the latter was yet to give him a call yet for him to save her contact.

What has she been up to with Shawn that she asked Doctor Sullivan about Shawn’s sickness?

Did they meet after she left him in the kindergarten and decided to open up to Shawn about the children?

That’s not possible considering the way she reacted when he threatened her about revealing the children’s identity to Shawn.

I think Shawn should be able to answer my question.

"What do you want again? I’m not in the mood of indulging you this morning." The person that picked his call sounded weak, but the arrogant sting in his words didn’t reduce in the least.

"Did Kathleen come to see you this morning?" Steffan asked, ignoring Shawn’s irritating tone.

Shawn’s eyes narrowed suspiciously at the first thing that came out of Steffan’s mouth. "Why do you think she came to see me? Have you been monitoring me?"

"You are always only in this mood when you have contact with her, so tell me if she came to see you and stop being freaking uptight," Steffan rebuked.

"Why do you want to know? It has nothing to do with you," Shawn shot back.

Steffan gave a wry smile. "It’s like my guess is correct. You saw her this morning, right?"

"What if I saw her? Aren’t you supposed to be looking out for ways to try and get the love of your life to at least talk to you? Why meddle in other people’s business?"

"That’s exactly what I’m doing. I need to know what’s up with you two before I know what to do to get my love."

There was no way Shawn was going to guess the meaning behind Steffan’s words. "What has my affair with my wife got to do with your love life?"

Hearing Shawn mention "wife" Steffan felt a sharp pain in his heart. ’Why does my first true love have to be my best friend’s wife?’

"If you have nothing to do this morning, get off my phone," Shawn said and ended the call. He was already in a foul mood after he saw Kathleen’s car drive off.

He tried to forget about her all day but to no avail which made him drive to the office to immerse himself in work. He was beginning to get her off his mind only for Steffan to bring up her name again.

It’s like there are not enough patients in that hospital that will keep him occupied and that is why he has time to mess with him all day.

He had an urge to go and tip off some miscreants to cause havoc somewhere that will result in so many casualties and all of them will be sent to Medstar hospital.

That way, Steffan would be busy for at least two weeks before remembering to bug him.

But that would also involve putting the lives of innocent citizens in danger, so he had to discard the ridiculous idea.

Unaware that he was walking into the aftermath of a raging storm, Johnson, Shawn’s personal assistant, gave his characteristic knock on the office door and came in.

"Boss, I have gotten the name of the lawyer that Madam has hired for the court hearing," he reported.

He was about to place the file containing the detailed information about the lawyer on the table when he felt a fiery gaze on his outstretched arm.

He looked up and saw the terrifying look on his boss’s face that made a shiver instantly run down his spine.

His shock was further heightened when he heard his boss scold, "Are you so jobless that you have to be snooping around all day on irrelevant matters?"

Johnson was speechless.

’Snooping on irrelevant matters?’

Was he not the one that ordered him to find out who was taking up the case for the Madam yesterday after he got the news that the date for the hearing has been fixed?

He had even warned him that if he can’t carry out such a simple task he shouldn’t appear in the office the following day.’

Just to meet up with the deadline for the assignment, he had even forfeited lunch and dinner and managed to snack on a measly amount of food just before midnight in order not to go to bed on an empty stomach.

’Now I am suddenly jobless. Did I do anything wrong by following his orders?’ Johnson groaned inwardly.

He felt so aggrieved but couldn’t do anything about it. He could only mutter a woeful, "I’m sorry Boss."

"You can leave," ordered his screwed up Boss.

"Yes, Boss."

After taking the first step he was stopped by a cold voice.

"And where do you think you are going with that file? Drop it on the table."
