THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 134: My Love For You Will Last For A Thousand Lifetimes
"Never," Shawn had refused vehemently as if she had asked him to commit suicide.
"But your inheritance is at stake if you don’t marry her," she pointed out.
"Damn the inheritance. When my father handed over Hudson Corporations to me, it was a hollow piece with no substance, and I single-handedly brought it to what you are seeing today."
"If I can do it then, what do you think I can do with all the experience I have gathered from Hudson Corporations if I’m to start a new company? Or don’t you have faith in your man?" Shawn had asked proudly.
"I trust you and believe you would do much better. But you still have to start all over. Isn’t that burdensome and a total waste of time, energy and resources?"
"For you, I don’t mind starting a thousand times over just to have you in my life."
Shawn took her hands and the love in his eyes overflowed when his blue eyes met with hers. "The only person and thing I want in my life is you and our love. With you in my life I can build everything from scratch for our little family when the children come along."
"But you are already so accomplished and doing well in everything. You want to give up all these just for our love?"
"I can only convince you with my actions," he had said that evening before they parted ways after spending some time with each other.
The following day, he had taken her to the registry to register their marriage.
When they returned home from the registry, she had been so overwhelmed with the emotion of getting married to Shawn as she stared at the certificate on which their names and blissful picture were perfectly displayed.
She had held his waist and buried her head in his shoulders as she wept for joy.
"Babe, we are no longer a baby but a married woman." Shawn teased as he found her behavior cute and at the same time funny.
He raised her head up, kissed her tears away, then lifted her up and spun her around in circles while she giggled happily like a schoolgirl.
"Thank you," she muttered when he finally put her down.
"I love you babe, and will do anything for you."
"I love you too sweetheart. My love for you will last a thousand lifetimes and I will never leave you no matter what happens."
She had intended to keep that promise until the setup that separated them six years ago.
But everything was different now and that vow was inconsequential in the face of the present reality.
"Do you still think you don’t have a responsibility towards me?" From Shawn’s mischievous grin, it was obvious he knew what she had been thinking about for so long.
"Like I said, that was in the past. I was naive then and never thought you would turn out to be heartless in the long run," Kathleen retorted.
"My mistake was in the past, so we are even now," Shawn analyzed shamelessly.
"But since you don’t want to answer my question, I can only conclude that you don’t want me to die and want our relationship to continue. That is a responsibility you promised to take on for life when you signed that marriage certificate with me."
"Keep dreaming, I will never come back to you."
At Kathleen’s word, Shawn’s expression turned ugly and he ran a hand through his hair.
She could see a tormented look in his eyes as he tried to control something that was threatening to burst forth.
He eventually suppressed it and said in a muffled voice.
"Why do you keep fighting what we have, Kathleen? I know for sure that you are not happy with Jason."
"I am happy with him," she fired back.
"Stop it," yelled Shawn in anguish.
"Why must I? I love him and will never stop loving him."
"Kathleen!" Shawn roared and finally lost control of his mind as he grabbed her arms as if he was going to yank it off the next minute.
"Shawn! Let go of me, you asshole. You are hurting me," she winced in pain, but Shawn seemed to not hear a single word from her mouth but was only consumed by the strange force that kept tearing him in the heart.
All of a sudden Shawn released her and crumpled to the ground, an agonizing sound escaping his lips.
Kathleen’s eyes widened in alarm."What is wrong with you Shawn? What ridiculous act are you trying to put up?"
She could only calm herself with this idea as she didn’t know how else to explain Shawn’s strange behavior.
But the more she tried to trivialize the situation before her, the more Shawn’s body writhed in pain. He grabbed his hair as his face twisted into a grimace.
His hand shot out and covered his chest as though he was trying to stop his heart from jumping out. The pain coming from his chest felt like a sharp-toothed creature eating him from the inside.
He could no longer hear Kathleen nor see her scared expression as she stared at him clueless on what was going on with him.
As a doctor, she could tell the symptom as what one experiences when there was a sudden trigger in the brain nerves.
Just as she was thinking of what was responsible for such a condition in Shawn, his driver who was passing by, saw his master on the ground and rushed over.
When he saw the state his boss was in, he darted away to Kathleen’s bewilderment and returned in less than a minute with a white bottle in his hand. Out of it, he brought out a pill,
"Please, feed him with this," he urged.
"What is this?" Kathleen asked as she sniffed the pill that the driver had handed over to her.
"It is a calming pill that his psychiatrist prescribed for him whenever he is under a sudden attack like this one," the driver explained patiently after Kathleen had fed him with it.
"Calming pill? Psychiatrist?" What is wrong with him?"
