THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 133: Prepare To Die
"But you survived for six years, a few more is not a big deal."
Shawn did not miss the sarcasm behind Kathleen’s words but he overlooked it, knowing she was still fixated on his actions back then.
"That was because I still had a glimmer of hope that one day you will come back to me. And thank the heavens they sent you back, now I can’t imagine what life without you will be like."
"And for those six years, I was living a life worse than death," Shawn confessed. It wasn’t just a way of getting her back into his life, it was the fact.
Their eyes met but Kathleen broke it off, then 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
said, "But I have someone else in my life now and we are happy together."
Shawn’s eyes turned cold and furious. How can she tell him to his face that she was fucking around with someone else when he, her husband was still alive.
"That is a criminal offense, you are still married to me, so you can’t have anything to do with other men," warned Shawn.
That was his trump card and he intends to use it to his utmost advantage.
"A divorce can easily settle that," slammed Kathleen. "Don’t think you can use that to blackmail me."
"Over my dead body," declared Shawn.
"Then prepare to die," Kathleen uttered mercilessly.
Shawn was taken aback and his mouth slacked in disbelief. "Do you seriously want me dead?"
Shawn had never been this heartbroken in his life. And worst still he never thought Kathleen hated him this much or was she just joking with him? But she doesn’t appear to be.
He made an extra effort to calm himself and got close to her, his eyes peering straight into her eyes as if he wanted to see the depth of her soul.
"I will ask you again, do you really want me dead?"
His heart seemed to be hanging on what Kathleen’s response would be and he felt a huge blockade in his throat as he waited for her answer.
Kathleen tried to look away but her head was forced to remain fixed on his face by Shawn’s firm grip on her chin.
In those eyes, she saw fear, pain and at the same time hope. What would he do if her answer was a yes?
Maybe saying yes will make him finally give up on her and let her live in peace with her two children. But what will happen when he finds out that they had children together?
She was at a crossroad. This was her chance to finally get rid of his pestering but the thought of her children tugged at her heartstrings.
What would they think of her when they found out that she deliberately kept them from knowing who their father was even if he was so close to them?
Will they ever forgive her or abandon her and go away with their father out of anger?
Shawn who has been reduced to a nervous wreck by Kathleen’s silence, became impatient and his hold on Kathleen’s chin tightened which succeeded in making Kathleen wince in pain.
"Ouch, you are hurting me, Shawn. let go of me," she cried out.
"You haven’t given me your answer." Shawn slackened his grip a bit but didn’t let go, which was a clear indication that until she answered him, there was no way he was going to release her.
"Do you know you are not helping matters by your actions?" Kathleen asked, hoping he will release her in order not to offend her like he always did since he was seeking her forgiveness.
"I don’t care anymore, and don’t try to evade the question." Shawn shot back.
’Afterall you already have the worst opinion about me in your mind, so what’s the use of acting like a gentleman all the time. I must use this opportunity to confirm my place in her heart today, once and for all,’ was the thought running through Shawn’s mind.
’Do I really want him dead?’ Kathleen thought again.
The temptation to say "No" was very strong. Afterall he was still her children’s father and wouldn’t curse them to be fatherless despite the disagreement she had with him.
But on the other hand, she might have put an end to whatever love Shawn had for her from being disappointed in her and that would also mean her own freedom.
"What was your question again?" Kathleen tried to stall for time and if possible divert the topic.
Shawn, "???"
"Are you kidding me, Kathleen? Stop pretending that you have forgotten the question. This is not your style, shying away from your responsibility."
"I’m not responsible for anything," Kathleen denied.
Shawn’s lips curled in disbelief. "Really? Have you forgotten the vows you made to me on our wedding night?"
"How can you refer to our wedding night? That was seven years ago for Pete’s sake."
"What’s the difference?" I didn’t force you to make those vows then. You were the one that even said it was beyond this life."
Kathleen’s ears turned red all of a sudden when she remembered that she had actually said something like that.
That was mainly because of the sacrifice he made by ignoring his mother’s threat to remove him as the president of Hudson Corporations and disown him from the family if he went ahead to marry her.
He had defied her threats and what he stood to lose and had gone ahead to secretly obtain the certificate with her.
She could vividly remember the conversation they had the night before they obtained the certificate.
They were at her favorite coffee shop where her friend Lauren Holmes worked when he had told her of his mother’s objection to their relationship.
"What are we going to do? Are you going to follow your mother’s arrangement and get married to the young lady of the Beazell family that they have prepared for you?" she had asked with a thumping heart and eyes simmering with tears.
