THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 135: I Can Take Care Of Myself
With the help of Shawn’s driver, they carefully moved Shawn to a small double seater cane chair that was close to the parking lot.
After ensuring his boss was comfortable to some extent, the driver sighed in relief, "Now that he has taken the pill, he will get better soon."
"What is wrong with him? And when did he start taking those pills?" Kathleen asked again when Shawn’s driver cleverly dodged her first question.
She sensed that the driver was not willing to talk about the issue, perhaps because his boss had warned them not to talk about it.
"You know I am a doctor and you can confide in me so that I can help him, or do you want him to continue like this?" She tried persuading him but he didn’t take the bait.
He was skeptical about talking about his boss’s condition despite Kathleen’s effort to get him to talk.
If his master had wanted to open up to the Madam, he would have done so before now, so he felt he wasn’t in the position to say anything in order not to incur his boss’s wrath.
To an extent he was glad that the attack happened this time when she could witness it, this way she would know what his boss had suffered in those years as a result of her absence.
All he could do was give a hint and it was left for her to follow up from there.
"I think you should wait for him to wake up then ask him, but all I can say is that he got like this six years ago after you left and since then had been able to pull through only with the help of these pills."
Kathleen was lost in thought. Does it mean his condition is related to her? But how? What has her leaving got to do with what he was presently going through? Wasn’t he the one who said he didn’t want to see her ever again?
She glanced at Shawn who was now calm and had his eyes shut. There were stress lines still visible on his forehead as well as the corners of his tightly shut eyes.
She lifted her hands and gently traced her fingers along the lines on his forehead then started massaging them gently. Gradually, the lines began to ease and before long, they completely disappeared,
From his subconscious, Shawn tried to move his head but felt a soft gentle touch on his throbbing head and wondered what it was. The circular motion he felt were working magic on his head and entire system, and before long the excruciating pain had disappeared under the magic of those hands.
Not only that but he also felt there was a soft mass of something underneath his head. It brought a familiar feeling which he found inexplicably relaxing and soothing to his upstrung nerves.
That feeling always came as a result of the presence of only one person.
Somewhere in his subconscious, he recalled he was standing with Kathleen before he was engulfed by that excruciating pain that made him lose his mind.
Is she still around? She didn’t leave me? Shawn’s eyes flickered open and he saw Kathleen peering down at him with eyes laden with concern.
When Kathleen saw Shawn’s hazy gaze, her hands froze in their movement of massaging his forehead.
"How do you feel?" She asked in order to hide her embarrassment.
The sound of her voice cleared the uncertainties he had about her presence and he became wide awake.
With him waking up, the special benefit he had been enjoying was also withdrawn as the next minute Kathleen gently removed his head from her laps.
Even though he pretended to be in pain to continue enjoying the softness of her laps, she feigned ignorance and continued with her action of propping his head on the head rest.
She even shifted away from him, making him lose even the little warmth her closeness had given him.
’Why is she so heartless when it comes to me? Can’t she see I’m a patient? Is she always this alienated from her other patients?’
Kathleen took note of the frown on Shawn’s face and knew he was not happy with her actions but there was nothing she could do about it.
She had to keep her distance from him. She had only done those things on the spur of the moment as a doctor who was tending to a patient.
"For how long has this been going on?" she asked in a detached voice.
Shawn’s lips turned up in a sneer. "Why the sudden concern about me? Don’t you want me dead?"
Although his voice was weak, the coldness in it could still be felt a mile away.
She smiled wryly. This was the result she wanted; that Shawn would hate her and keep her at arms length. Why then did she still feel uneasy at his alienated tone?"
"Who is the psychiatrist you are seeing? I need to have a talk with him," Kathleen asked out of her own goodwill.
Shawn was exasperated with Kathleen’s erratic behavior. "Kathleen, aren’t you too capable?"
"One minute you are pushing me away and asking me to die and the next you are showing your fake concerns. Who are you trying to deceive?" He queried, a disdainful smirk forming on his face.
"You have seen me in my weakest state, what else do you want from me?" It was almost like a plea from a wounded heart when he said that last part, after which he closed his eyes to cover up the emotions in his eyes.
"As a doctor, I need to know what is going on with you, I might be able to help, you know," she insisted, undeterred by Shawn’s attitude.
"You want to help?" Shawn sneered without opening his eyes.
"You know what to do if you really want to help, outside that, you can get lost. I can take care of myself."
