Chapter 131: A True Definition of Brains and Beauty

Kathleen stretched out her hand to receive the business card which Steffan was already brandishing before her eyes.

"I will call you when I’m less busy and arrange for us to meet." With that she got into her car and drove off, leaving Steffan with a slight smile on his face which later changed to regret when he remembered that she already belonged to someone.

Before going home, Kathleen decided to check on old Mrs Hudson at Hudson Manor.

The previous week, she had been so busy that she could only check on her once. Despite the fact that she was recovering well, she still needed to check on her progress

As she got to the gate of Hudson Manor, the security guards flung open the gate for her when they saw her familiar white Bentley.

She stopped to exchange pleasantries with them as she always did each time she came around before driving in.

At old Mrs Hudson’s room, she was surprised to see Shawn sitting beside her bed. He didn’t look like he had any plans of going out that morning in his sparkling white shirt and blue jeans.

Even in casuals, he was still dashingly handsome and domineering.

Actually, when she drove in, she had seen his car and assumed he went out in another car so she didn’t think much about it.

"Why are you here? She asked before she realized that something was wrong with her question.

This was his home, so it was not unusual for him to be here at any time.

"I mean, you are supposed to be in the office by this time," she quickly amended.

Shawn who was equally surprised hy her sudden arrival stared at her in disbelief.

After not seeing her for so many days, he couldn’t take his eyes off her.

This morning, she wasn’t in her conservative business attire but was dressed casually in denim pants and a lovely flowery chiffon top which rested seductively on her full hips.

Her blonde hair cascaded down her shoulder in voluminous curls, slightly covering part of her peerless milky face which had no makeup but still looked breathtakingly beautiful.

He was so engrossed in admiring her that he didn’t take note of her slips.

Kathleen felt uncomfortable under his intense gaze and she looked away as she felt a flush creeping up her face.

"I’ll be leaving first," she said, and took a step towards the door intending to go back out which eventually broke the spell on Shawn.

With just two long strides, Shawn arrived by her side near the door.

"Don’t go," he said, in what came out like a whisper as he reached out to hold her arm, his pleading gaze was so compelling that she found it difficult to say no.

One of the nurses who had followed Kathleen to old Mrs Hudson’s room on her arrival saw this sight and stood still with eyes bulging from their sockets.

She had never seen President Hudson look at anyone longer than a few seconds except his grandmother, but here he was caught in a trance for over a minute the moment he saw Dr Janice, and his deep gaze was full of love and affection.

Where did that softness that she also heard in his voice when he asked Dr Janice not to leave come from?

Dr Janice is so outstanding, which man in his right senses would not fall for such an awesome woman? She had everything a man would ever need in a woman. She was a true definition of what is referred to as "brains and beauty."

Even the unapproachable President Hudson was completely smitten by her.

And they look so good together, one was extremely beautiful and a renowned doctor and the other a cold but handsome billionaire whose warmth appeared to be for the gorgeous doctor alone.

At that moment, the little hope she had of one day attracting the attention of the cold faced president was instantly dashed.

Painful as it was, she would rather choose to support their love than go against them. It was a complete waste of effort and emotion if she continued to persist.

From the corners of her eyes, Kathleen saw the nurse gaping from the door and since she didn’t want to create a scene nor give them something to talk about, she obediently followed Shawn’s lead to sit on a second chair beside the bed.

Seeing the obedient Kathleen, Shawn was satisfied and the corners of his mouth rose in a slight smile.

It was so unusual for her to easily agree to his request.

"How is she?" Kathleen asked after she took her seat beside the bed. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

"You should know best, the answer to that question. Thanks to you she is on her way to good health again," he smiled in gratitude.

Shawn’s heartfelt smile was a reflection of his inner joy and Kathleen couldn’t help but respond with an equally understanding smile which was as revitalizing as a spring breeze to Shawn’s soul.

After meeting with Steffan last night, he had felt that Steffan’s love story was similar and also as sad as his, so he kept drowning cup after cup of alcohol with him untill he got drunk, all the while he never stopped thinking about Kathleen,

When he woke up this morning he was annoyed with Steffan for dragging him out for a drink which made him wake up late and not in the mood for any kind of work.

As the main reason he got himself drunk was because of Kathleen, he decided to go and see his Nana, who he believed was the only link between them for now.

He had seen how Kathleen had snatched his Nana’s life from the jaws of death through her medical prowess. So he felt that by staying beside his Nana, he could share a bit of Kathleen’s presence and love.

Little did he know she was going to drop by this morning and he silently thanked Steffan, because by now he would have been in the office glossing over loads of lifeless documents.
