THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 130: I Know Your Type
’What has this boy been thinking about all day and what gave him the illusion that all men are scum?’
’Is it because he thought their father abandoned them?’
Ms Roberts eyes never left Kathleen’s face and seeing her so deep in thought, her assumption that there might be some marital issue in the family was confirmed.
From her experience as a seasoned teacher for over fifteen years, children only speak that way when there was problem with the home front.
"I was wondering if you can resolve whatever problems that might ...," she trailed off as her eyes darted around the room, avoiding eye contact with Kathleen. The remaining part of her words wasn’t hard to guess.
Kathleen released a sharp breath, then said calmly,
"I got your message Ms Robert, and thanks for your keen observations and advise."
She got up to leave but was stopped by Ms Robert’s question. "I hope you are not angry with me?"
Kathleen’s stared deeply into Ms Roberts eyes which made the later to rethink her actions. "No, I’m not annoyed, you are only doing your work which I sincerely appreciate. Have a nice day."
She left, deep in thoughts and almost collided with the figure that apppeared out of nowhere.
When she saw who it was, she snapped immediately, "Don’t you have any other thing to do with your life than trailing me?"
Steffan was stunned as he has never seen her that angry before.
Despite the way he pestered her in the past she had never flared up the way she just did.
Something must have happened within the time she went to drop her kids, he could tell. ’But what could it be?’ he mumbled. She wasn’t like this when she left him at the car park.
When he waited and didn’t see her for so long, he decided to check on her to know what was keeping her only to see her leaving the hall disoriented.
Her usual swagger was gone, and her shoulders were slumped as though whatever she just encountered had beaten her down and stolen her confidence.
He shook his head and hurried after her as she was about entering her car?
"Is anything the matter?" he asked, his voice laden with concern.
"What do you want?" she spat back. "Can’t you mind your business for once?"
"But you are my business. A very important one at that," Steffan replied shamelessly.
There is no way he was going to allow her leave in the state that she presently was. Even if it requires him being shameless.
Kathleen’s head jerked sideways at the man who refused to mind his business.
"Stay away from me or don’t blame me for whatever happens to you."
"What can you do to me?" Even if you were to do something to me, I’d very much love to die in your hands, Beautiful."
Despite her anger, Kathleen couldn’t help but chuckle. "Well I don’t have the hobby of taking people’s life, if you want to die, check somewhere else."
Seeing that her mood has improved a bit, Steffan steered the conversation to the reason he had been waiting for her.
"But you almost had me killed last night."
Kathleen’s forehead creased in a frown. "Last night ? But I didn’t even see you?"
"That’s what I mean. I almost died when you refused to show up for our appointment. That alone broke my heart into a million unfixable pieces."
He didn’t tell her how he ended up getting drunk and getting home a complete waste last night.
He had never been that drunk in his entire life to the extent of not recognizing the people around him.
If not for the timely intervention of his sister in-law, that useless Benita, the damned President of idle women’s Association would have taken advantage of him last night. The mere thought of her body against his made him want to puke.
Early this morning when he woke up with a splitting headache, he even ignored the pain and rushed over just to see her to get an explanation.
"Shameless," she sneered. "And for standing you up, I’m sorry," she unexpectedly apologized.
Not just because he would use it against her to continue threatening her, but it wasn’t her style to break her promise. Since she had promised to meet him, she would have done so if not for the drama she was forced to put up with with Mr Beazell.
"An emergency came up and I couldn’t leave," she explained to Steffan’s utmost surprise.as his mouth still hung open.
’Did she really offer an apology and an explanation?’
"What’s with that expression?" A corner of Kathleen’s mouth turned up in a smirk.
"Nothing," Steffan hastily adjusted his mood. "Since you know you were wrong and have heartwarming apologized for breaking my heart mercilessly, how are you going to compensate me?"
"Don’t go too far, Mr," Kathleen shot back. "It was just an apology, nothing more. Heartwarming indeed," she smirked.
"Ok, I won’t press charges. But since you are truly sorry. Can we start with our names and phone numbers?"
Seeing the hesitation from Kathleen, Steffan quickly added. "I would have called yesterday to find out what was going on when you stood me up but unfortunately, I didn’t have your contact."
It was then Kathleen realized she didn’t even know his name. He had gotten so used to the image of a joker in her mind that he forgot he was supposed to have a name.
"Ok, since you mentioned it, not that I need your name or contact for anything. I’m Kathleen Crawford."
"I’m Steffan Rosse, a doctor with Medstar hospital where we met for the first time."
Kathleen uttered a monosyllabic, "Oh,"
"So can I get your contact details?"
"That will not fly with me," Kathleen bluntly refused. "I don’t want you pestering my life all night and day. I know your type."
Steffan was rendered speechless. "Can you at least take mine?" He offered in resignation.
