THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 127: The Beazell Group Declares Bankruptcy
By 6pm that same evening, a certain gentleman was already seated at a table at Club Dynamo, awaiting his date.
He had changed from his previous outfit to a less formal one. He looked great in his navy blue suit and sky blue shirt. Instead of a tie, the first two buttons were opened, giving him a more relaxed appearance.
He was dashing enough to catch the admiring gazes of anyone that saw him.
He ordered a drink as he settled down in a strategic corner, his eyes pinned to the front door. That way he wouldn’t miss her when she arrived.
But the sad thing about his sitting position was that he was forced to see every single individual that came into and exited the club.
Some were alone, others hanging on the arms of their partners while whispering sweet nothings to themselves as they entered or left.
From the excited anticipation he initially had, to anxiousness, until it turned into disappointment, he continued to wait.
He had been staring at the door for over an hour but the one person he longed to see was nowhere to be found.
"Did she forget about our appointment or she just made a fool out of me?" Stefan asked no one in particular.
"From the way she reluctantly fixed the appointment, I should have known that she wouldn’t come."
"But I thought exposing the children’s identity to Shawn was threatening enough to make her see me. Maybe it doesn’t matter to her and I was just overthinking it."
He couldn’t believe he had cleared all his schedule only to be stood up mercilessly on his first serious date.
He was infuriated and at the same time embarrassed because from time to time the waiter would occasionally pass by to ask if he was ready to order, but he kept on telling him that his partner was yet to come.
Out of boredom, he took out his phone and saw a piece of news that he didn’t know had been trending for so long.
"The Beazell Group Declares Bankruptcy."
Under it was a detailed account of how the wife of the chairman was arrested for attempted murder, her failed attempt to flee the country under the guise of being sick and how the public had boycotted the Group’s products.
It also showed how the shares of the company had plummeted and their business partners and investors withdrawing their funds.
This had left them no choice but to declare bankruptcy.
"When did all these happen without my knowledge?"
His fingers quickly tapped on the screen to fetch Shawn’s contact which after the first ring, was surprisingly picked.
"Hey buddy, what’s up?" Shawn called out.
He seemed to be in a good mood today, Steffan noticed.
"What’s with the news I’m hearing about Beazell Group?"
"Is that why you called me?" Shawn queried impatiently, his previous enthusiasm waning immediately.
"Don’t be so uptight, were you not their betrothed son in-law in the past?"
"I can see you are jobless. Since you have nothing to say, I’m hanging up." Despite the several kilometers that separated them, Steffan could still feel his coldness from his voice.
"How did you know I’m truly jobless?"
After getting no reply, he change the topic. "Can you believe I’ve been stood up?" Steffan asked. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Instead of staying here wallowing in self pity why not look for someone else to share the burden with.
For a moment there was total silence on the other end of the phone, and just when Steffan thought that Shawn had really hung up on him, Shawn’s boisterous laughter reverberated through the phone.
"Is it the love of your life?" Shawn asked amidst laughter.
"What do you think?" Steffan spat back.
’It’s the love of our life,’ but he didn’t include the second part of the statement.
"I’m sorry man. Do you need a shoulder to cry on?"
"I’ve always known you are heartless? I just told you my heart has been broken to pieces and all you could do is joke about it."
"Quit whining and tell me where you are. On second thought, I had better not come. It’s most likely you are still waiting to see if she will show up."
"Now tell your good friend," Shawn continued, "for how long have you been waiting?" he asked, feigning concern.
A fleeting glance at his wrist showed it was almost 9pm. That means I’ve waited close to three hours.
"Damn!" he cursed aloud.
"Don’t tell me you’ve been waiting all day?" Shawn teased mercilessly, trying hard to suppress the laughter threatening to burst forth but it was still evident from his voice that he was having fun teasing his friend.
"I think I made a mistake calling you." Steffan directly hung up the call. He didn’t know who in particular to direct his anger at; Kathleen or Shawn?
In fact they were all the same. With the same ability to anger him beyond words. No wonder they could hook up as husband and wife.
It appeared Shawn really didn’t have anything doing as the next minute his name was displayed on the screen for an incoming call.
After staring at the screen for about ten seconds, Steffan reluctantly swiped it but didn’t say anything.
"Where did you say you were?" Shawn’s voice sounded.
"Club Dynamo," was the mechanical reply he got from Steffan.
"You sure know how to choose a meeting point for a date."
Before Steffan could throw back a response, Shawn hung up.
In less than thirty minutes, Shawn strolled into the club attracting the attention of everyone. Even some of the men couldn’t help but gawk at the breathtaking hunk that just walked in.
The ladies threw flirtatious glances at him, making extreme efforts to project their natural assets as he ambled across the room but he didn’t spare them a glance.
It was not untill he saw the person he was looking for that a ghost of a smile flickered across his face.
