THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 103: Pay Her A Visit In Jail
After the police left, someone asked, "Who is the Kathleen Crawford they mentioned?"
"That’s the young lady we falsely accused," another person replied.
"Now I remember, I heard when that wicked lady screamed her name earlier on."
"Not only is she a sly old woman but she is also a murderer. In this life, one should pray never to meet people like her."
"That’s how they use their names to make things difficult for everyone. I’m glad they met their match this time around.
"I wonder how she was able to escape an assassination attempt? It would have been hard for her."
"She is really fated to live a victorious life though. See the way she proved her innocence despite all the tricks that woman used to frame her."
All of a sudden Kathleen’s life has become so pitiful and complicated that they didn’t know what to feel for her, pity, happiness or envy.
When Kathleen stepped into the café, she was surprised to still meet the group of people who stopped talking as soon as they saw her.
What baffled her the more was the strange looks in their eyes, when they looked at her.
Her brows bumped together in a frown. "Why are you still here? Do you all want to pay her a visit in jail?"
"No... " they chorused in unison.
"We only wanted to say that we are sorry." Someone said on behalf of everybody. This time, the apology sounded sincere enough.
It then occurred to Kathleen that this was as a result of her threat earlier on to get the footage. Were they scared she would go through with her words and take legal action against them? Who has time for such nonsense.
"You are the least of my worries. My only advice to you all is that in the future, don’t always jump to conclusions before getting the facts because the weak are not always the innocent and the heart of men is unfathomable."
Sure enough, her guess was proven correct as another person asked, "Does that mean you are letting us go?"
"As long as you learn your lessons, I won’t hold anything against you."
"Thank you Ma’am for your magnanimity. We will follow your advice from now on," their supposed spokesman assured.
"And I’m sure the law will give you your deserved justice."
"They sure will." Kathleen knew he was referring to Mrs Beazell.
Just then, her father’s phone call came in and she turned her attention from them to answering the call.
"Can you come upstairs now that you are done with your business?" His deep voice sounded from the other end of the phone.
Kathleen was speechless. "Dad? What business are you talking about?" From her fathers tone she knew he wasn’t referring to what she was doing before coming to the café.
"Proving your innocence and sending people to jail, of course," came her father’s warm reply.
"You know about this?" By then she was already standing by the private cubicle her dad had texted to her.
Kathleen could hear her father chuckle lightly as she opened the door.
He looked up at her and a smile was still pasted on his face. "I’ve told you before that nothing happens around you without my knowledge, except I’m not interested."
He patted the space beside him. "Now sit down and take a rest. You’ve worked so hard today."
Kathleen shook her head at her father and took her seat on the three sitter cane chair beside her father.
Her eyes did a quick scan of the room and she noticed that although the decoration here was not too different from the main hall, a little touch of elegance has been added and the lights could be adjusted to suit the mood of the guests. More importantly, it offered the privacy one needed from the public.
Kathleen closed her eyes as she savored the delicious taste of the fruit cake she just popped into her mouth.
The bloom of summer strawberries and the burst pineapple she tasted was quite the perfect accompaniment to the coffee.
"Hmmm, this tastes divine. No need to ask how you knew just what I wanted." Kathleen took a sip from the cup of coffee her dad just poured for her.
"I must say, you were awesome in how you handled everything. You were not the least perturbed throughout the whole situation," Director Wyatt praised, a doting smile on his face.
"How did you even know about it," Kathleen asked, taking another bite from the cake.
"I was informed the moment you packed your car outside. When I didn’t see you after waiting for so long I had to find out what was going on."
"And you didn’t come out to help me," pouted Kathleen, not that she needed his help anyway.
"Na, I didn’t want to steal your show, knowing fully well you could handle it yourself. Moreover I kept an eye on the whole situation."
He had a mysterious smile on his face as he revealed,
"I got to get a full grasp of the situation through the CCTV camera."
Kathleen’s brow furrowed in a frown, "Dad?"
"Why do you think the manager took more time than necessary before arriving with the footage?
"At one point I was curious why he took that long for him to return. Not only that but he didn’t think twice when I gave him my card."
Then Kathleen’s eyes flashed with a new insight, "Did you have something to do with that also?"
"What do you think?" Director Wyatt asked,
"And I know what you want to ask next," he continued.
"Since you already know, go ahead and confiem it," Kathleen replied, already envisaging another revelation from her father.
The corners of Director Wyatt’s eyes crinkled as he confessed, "I guess you don’t know that this café is owned by my friend."
"I’m sure you can put the remaining pieces together to arrive at your answer."
"That explains it then." Kathleen said, her head bobbing up and down in understanding.
