Chapter 101: Sneaking Away

"I can quickly fix it for you while we wait for the manager to arrive with the footage," Kathleen offered, making no effort to hide the mockery in her voice.

"However, if you choose to not listen to me, I must warn that your waist might end up getting infected with sores if you move too much since it’s already dislocated."

From the surface it appeared she was offering to help but considering the circumstances in which she was offering her services, who wouldn’t know that she was actually provoking them.

"Kathleen Crawford!" shrieked Mrs Beazell, forgetting for a moment that she was supposed to be in pain.

Listening to Kathleen spew nonsense from her mouth on and on, doubled her irritation.

"How dare you curse me with sores?" she exploded almost springing up towards Kathleen but was held back by Linda.

"Mom, you can’t act recklessly. Remember you are still in pain." Linda panicked when she saw that her mother was about to blow their cover from anger.

At her daughter’s reminder, Mrs Beazell could only swallow the curse she was about to unleash on Kathleen.

She was seething with anger, and if looks could kill, Kathleen would have died a million times from the daggers shooting from those eyes.

Seeing her mother in such a state, Linda got more scared by the minute at Kathleen’s ability. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

Kathleen had managed to provoke her usually cool, calm and collected mother to the point of almost turning her into a nervous wreck.

She had never seen her mother this provoked since she grew up to know something.

All her life, she has always known her mother to be calm and on top of every situation and had always hoped to be like her someday, but Kathleen has effortlessly erased that image within the space of an hour.

Her hatred for Kathleen skyrocketed and she promised herself to make sure Kathleen never lives a peaceful life.

The onlookers on the other hand were busy with their own speculations.

"Could it be that the lady didn’t push her?" one of them asked, frowning.

"I also smell something fishy here. How come her pains suddenly became unbearable that she wanted to go to the hospital?"

"Can’t you see that she’s trying to escape," sneered another one. "As soon as the surveillance footage was mentioned, her pains aggravated. How can there be such a coincidence?"

Kathleen curled her lips in disgust, not the least surprised by how shamelessly they switched sides like a pendulum bulb. One minute they are seen on the left, the next minute they have swung to the right.

They didn’t have to wait for long as the manager soon appeared.

Like he did before, his eyes swept across the people and finally settled on Linda and her mother, who were now seated at a corner of the cafe.

His expression gave nothing away and everyone wondered what the camera had captured.

Was the woman saying the truth or had they falsely accused an innocent person? No one could tell.

They could only find out from the manager who from all indications was not in the least eager to reveal the truth.

"Is he trying to cover it up so that the young lady is not embarrassed after finding out that she pushed the older lady?"

"I don’t think so, if she was really at fault, she would not be so bold to request for the camera to be checked."

"That’s true. But why is the manager saying nothing?"

Finally someone who could no longer bear the suspense approached the manager.

"Mr Manager, can you please tell us who is at fault here?"

"I don’t need to tell you. You will find out the truth by yourself."

With that the game of golf that was being aired on the television in the café changed to display a picture of the caffe.

The timer at the bottom of the screen showed 2:45pm which was within the time the whole thing would have started.

The picture moved to where a beautiful woman was seen coming into the café and brought out her phone, apparently to make a call. Just then another woman appeared beside her and started talking.

They quickly identified the two women as Kathleen and Mrs Beazell.

From the audio they were able to hear the content of their conversation and saw that it was actually the older woman that started the quarrel.

The more they watched, the angrier they got and intermittently threw disappointed looks at the daughter and mother pair who weren’t as confident as before.

Not only that, they saw the woman raise her hand to slap the younger woman who stopped her and flung her hand away, then the older woman fell to the ground.

What stunned them more was that they clearly saw that the force with which the women expended in flinging her arms away was not enough to have caused a fall.

The truth was as clear as daylight and needed no further clarification.

"She fell by herself."

They all hung their heads down and didn’t know how to face Kathleen, whom they had all unjustly accused.

Someone happened to see from the corner of her eyes Linda and her mother sneaking away and exposed them on the spot.

"How dare you sneak away after causing so much chaos?"

"Shameless, you sure know how to put up a show, convincing all of us into accusing an innocent person."

"I’m sure this is not her first time framing someone, seeing how convincing her acting was."

"I doubt if she is actually injured like she claimed."

"Of course not, that was all a show she put up to gain our sympathy and frame the beautiful lady. No wonder I always felt that something was off."

"I knew it. A refined lady like her can not be so evil minded to do something as degrading as pushing an older person."

"Please be careful with your words, I seem to recall the beautiful lady referring to them as losers from the Beazell family."
