Chapter 196: A Sick Man

When Theo walked out of the closet, Cain was seated on the sofa and had his arms spread wide over it. He was dressed in casual clothes - jeans and a shirt, and once again, she was struck by how young the man looked.

He should be in his mid-fifties, and he looked like someone in their early thirties. Plus, his resemblance to Zeke and Eric was striking. Especially Zeke.

Theo sighed inwardly. Alphas out there seek male children, but this one had killed the ones he had and had no regard for Eric.

Ironic.

"How long are you going to stand here peeking at me?" His deep voice carried, echoing softly over the walls.

Theo stepped out of the closet completely, "What are you doing here?"

"What?" He arched a brow, "Is it so wrong to visit my wife in her room?"

Theo forcefully swallowed back down the puke that had made it up. The words ’Wife’ from his tongue sounded like a twisted curse that brought shivers down her spine.

"What do you want, Cain?" She demanded again, keeping a good distance between them.

Cain shook his head lightly, very amused. She couldn’t wait for the day to come when she would wipe that smirk off his face once and for all.

"I came to inquire about you. How you’re faring in your new pack," He said, his eyes falling on her bare shoulders. The moment she had arrived here, they had burnt the Pack’s symbol into her skin.

"Coming to ask questions you already know the answers to?" She laughed too, "Haven’t the stalkers you’ve assigned outside my room been reporting everything to you?"

"Yes, they have," He answered, "I’ll be coming to watch you train very soon. Look forward to it,"

"How refreshing," She rolled her eyes.

Cain shifted his weight and pulled himself up to his full height. Theo panicked for a second and instinctively took a step back. Her fingers snaked back to her pants, where she had hidden two forks from her meals - if he came too close, she was going to stab him with them.

"That mark on your neck," He began, pointing at it. The amusement was gone, and pressure descended upon the room till she had to hold her breath, "It’s annoying, I don’t like seeing it there," 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

Her free hand flew up and covered it, "Then don’t come near me if you don’t like seeing it,"

"You’re too stiff, Runaway," He took a step forward and she took two backwards, "Don’t worry, you’ll feel more comfortable around me once I’ve erased that mark by placing mine,"

Her breath hitched.

"Or...have you forgotten you are my future mate? I choose you as my partner - you should be thrilled,"

"That doesn’t make you greater than the Moon Goddess who chose my real mates for me," She spat, "And I will never be your mate. I’ll never let you mark me. It’ll never happen, Cain,"

"Your real mates?" He laughed again, "Quite the special situation you had there, having two mates that is. But then again, you’re a silver wolf. Anything is possible with your kind," His eyes sharpened, "And let me tell you something Runaway, having me is better than having a thousand other wolves as your mate. As you already know, I am one in a million,"

Theo cursed inwardly and rolled her eyes again. Alphas and their undying pride about themselves really needed to be thoroughly studied. And Cain’s was probably like a combination of every single person who had existed before him.

"And need I not remind you that I’m one in a billion?" She fired back.

"It’s what makes us the perfect match. Your wolf, and what you carry beneath this pendant,"

Inside her, she heard the demon chuckle wickedly.

For a moment, Theo thought of telling Cain about her wolf’s condition - but the man probably already knew that she wasn’t healing at all with the injuries that ran across her body.

Almost as if he could read her thoughts, his eyes fell on the bandage around her head. Then his eyes shifted to the small cuts on her face and arms. He stared with a pressure that threatened to reopen the wounds healing at human rate.

"Your blood wasn’t made for Pendragon demon change, and when you tried to absorb it, you did it the wrong way,"

"You weren’t there when I did whatever I did. How the hell did you know?"

"I didn’t need to see you, I heard you,"

Heard them?! It was just like Eric had told her the evening before she had left for Gravemont while they were discussing about him in her room. Cain’s hearing perception was insane.

They had found Cain in the courtyard of the school that night, and she had attempted to lock Zeke’s energy into the Pendragon close to the mountains, so does that mean he had heard everything all the way to the other side of the school?

"Zeke and Sylas were your children," She said, "What kind of messed-up head would someone need to have to kill their own children with their own hands?"

Cain’s eyes flashed dangerously, "Watch your mouth, Runaway before I watch them for you,"

Her breath shook, "You’re a sick man," She added.

He was suddenly right in front of her, throwing away all the distance she had fought to put between them. He held her chin firmly, forcing her to look into his eyes. They were dark, just pure dark. Even when he smiled, they never reached his eyes. The only thing that fascinated him enough to touch them was seeing Erebos and Sylas as one.

"And you’re a helpless little cub trapped with that sick man," His grip tightened to the point of pain, and his heavy presence squeezed every breath out of her lungs, "And you have no idea... just how much sicker I can get,"

She pulled out the fork immediately, but he caught the movement without looking away from her eyes and caught her arm, pinning it to her side.

Theo gasped as he suddenly pulled up her chin, forcing her head to look up.

Then, his head descended.

Her lips parted to scream, but it was instantly muffled as his sharp teeth sank into her neck, directly over Zeke’s mark.
