Chapter 195: The Demon Answers

That explains a lot.

It explained how Theo was able to hear her after Aurelius bit her. And Zeke’s double bite had heightened it. As long as the mark remained there, she would be able to hear the demon’s voice whenever she spoke.

Speaking of the mate mark, Theo subtly ran her hands over it. It was the only feeling she still had of Zeke, and it was already fading. She deduced it’d be completely gone in two weeks.

She sat on her bed and closed her eyes, *Theodora,* She called.

She was answered with silence. It was long and uncomfortable. She didn’t feel any shift in her soul. The demon either couldn’t hear her, or intentionally ignored her.

*I know you can hear me. I want to talk to you,*

Silence again. But this time, Theo felt a small shift, followed by a light murmur. She knew her wolf well enough to tell that that did not come from her.

*If you don’t already know,* Theo continued anyway, "I tried to absorb demonic energy and it affected my wolf. She’s been weak for weeks now. What do I do to get her back on her feet?"

Again, she said nothing.

Theo pulled up a pillow and leaned back on it, a relaxed expression, *I can keep doing this all day, I’ve got nothing left to do, trust me. Either you talk, or you listen to my voice bugging the hell out of you for the rest of the day. And trust me, I’m good at being a nuisance*

Another silence, and then she heard a sharp, frustrated exhale.

*Silver is weak,* The demon drawled, *And you expect help from me?*

*I do* Theo replied, *That’s why I’m talking to you in the first place or else you can just stay stuck in there with no one to speak to if you so wish,*

The demon laughed wickedly, *I’ve been stuck inside you and haven’t spoken to anyone all this time. That threat lost its value very long ago,* She hissed.

Theo sighed tiredly, *Well, I’m not going to stop asking till you tell me what I know*

*I almost pity you, you know* The demon said, *Trying to help your wolf. A silver wolf is resistant to change of sorts. I’m sure you know what that means,*

*You’ll have to explain better than that,* Theo crossed her arms, her brows creased.

*You’re awfully dumb,*

*And you’re awfully chitchatty for someone who says she can go ahead in silence,*

Another silence.

*Silver is the reason your blood powers aren’t as heightened as they should be. Silver wolves are resistant to most blood powers, that’s why you were still able to feel the masked man’s presence when he erased it. Cain has you now for that, and for me. He already knows that no matter what he injects into your bloodstream, your silver wolf is resistant to change.*

*Even without my silver wolf, I’m not a Pendragon. I can’t change into a demon,*

*You can’t...* She felt the demon smirk, *but remember there’s me,*

Huh? *What are you talking about?*

*I’m you, isn’t that right? From another lifetime. We share the same soul. The soul is connected to everything else, including your wolf. Do you understand now?*

Theo knows Cain knows this demon is inside of her. The demon has once taken control of her, using her body and approaching the veil to release the demon trapped inside.

Theo’s brows furrowed. She knew she was missing something. The suspected reason for marrying her was for her to become his next victim, but Cain knows more than anyone how Pendragon blood works. There’s no way he would have married her to perform experiments that wouldn’t work to change her into a demon, except...

Her blood ran cold.

*No!* She muttered, beginning to pant.

*You finally figured it out, I see?* The Demon smirked again.

Cain doesn’t want to change her blood. He wants to change her soul. He wants to destroy everything that’s left of it. Last time the pendant had slipped, the demon had emerged but Theo’s soul inside of it had fought back. But once he is able to separate her intertwined soul from the demons’ and get rid of her, the demon will take over with or without the pendant. Whatever he’s planning to do, that’s probably what her mother had planned when she turned fifteen before she died, but he would be doing it to get rid of her, not the demon.

*Both of you are insane. You’re out of your minds!*

The demon laughed again, *I’ve been quiet because I know my time is coming again. I’ll be reunited with my mate once again,*

*I won’t let that happen. That tear would remain as it is,*

*Not for long sweetheart. It’s only a matter of time now. You’re trapped. No one is coming to save you, and you can’t escape this time. The east is like a fortress, and Cain would always find you,*

Theo could feel her nerves spiking. Her heart was racing hard with fear, and maybe that fear had been steadily eating up any little atom of hope she still had left.

The demon was right. She was trapped here.

And, the east is nothing like the other three sides. The security was so much tighter, and she noticed Jarred and Rex, Cain’s Beta, usually lingered outside her door. Cain must have specifically asked them to keep an eye on her and report every movement she made.

*Chatterbox, you still haven’t told me how to help my wolf?*

*Why would I help you again?*

*Because you can*

*But I choose not to*

Theo smiled, *So there’s a way. That’s what you’re saying*

The demon frowned.

*That’s good to know. We are getting somewhere*

Just then, she felt a small noise and looked up. The locks were turning from the outside - someone was unlocking her door!

Quickly, she flew up from the bed and ran into the walk-in closet just before the door opened and a Presence stood right outside.

Cain.

What was he doing here? This was the first time he had been in her room since he brought her to the east.

She froze. No way!

Was he here to consummate the marriage?
