Chapter 178: The Left-hand Man.

"Hellcat," Zeke murmured quietly, as he slowly let her down on her feet.

She stood next to him, watching the exit keenly. Inside her, Seraphina was ready for anything.

Just then, a shadow appeared followed by a figure. The man stepped out completely, and Theo softly snarled.

He was huge. He was very tall, so tall that if he raised a hand, he’d probably touch the top of the exit, and he was also heavily built.

He had an eye patch, and the second eye had a very large scar over it. His aura was explosive, a solid force to be reckoned with. And he had very short hair.

"Hezekiah," He said, "There you are. I’ve been looking all around for you. You’ve gotten much better at concealing your dark aura,"

Theo spared Zeke a glance, "Who is he?"

"Jarred," Zeke seethed, "Cain’s left-hand man,"

Left-hand man? No wonder he felt so powerful. Wait, what was someone like him doing here? Does it have something to do with the explosion seconds ago?

"What do you want?" Zeke asked.

From a distance, they could hear the sound of multiple engines rumbling, accompanied by the sound of multiple gunshots and hundreds of paws and bodies hitting the earth hard.

Intense snarls and barks cut through the air, and Theo’s throat tightened. A battle was going on up there. Whatever had caused that explosion didn’t come with anything good.

Gravemont was really under attack.

Jarred stepped forward, and then he pointed at Theo, "The Alpha’s Bride,"

Zeke’s eyes transformed into molten yellow, "She’s mine!"

"No wonder I smelt pheremones everywhere," He replied, then cracked his knuckles, "You really dare to mate with the Alpha’s Bride, Zeke?" The man’s eyes were empty, only flashing with this overwhelming murderous glare, "No wonder he ordered me to eliminate you,"

Eliminate Zeke? Cain said that?

Zeke didn’t look the least surprised. He was even expecting this a long time ago.

His claws shot out of his hands and legs, and he took an attack stance.

"Run, Hellcat," He whispered to her, eyes deeply focused on jarred, "He’s really strong,"

Theo was shocked. For Zeke to admit that meant Jarred’s aura wasn’t just for show.

But then, she would never leave him. She also took a firm stance, and she felt as her claws instinctively ripped out through her fingers, "We are leaving this Hellhole together,"

Zeke turned to her sharply, "I’m serious. Cain is here and he could be on his way to this cave ri-"

There was a quick shift in the air, and when they looked, Jarred wasn’t standing there anymore. Claws came ripping through the air toward them, and they both kicked back instantly, barely moving out of the way as the path they had stood a second ago now erupted as jarred claws sunk in.

Theo fell on one side, while Zeke slammed into the cave walls opposite her.

"Ah," Jarrek looked down at his claws, "I missed," He said.

Did he just say he missed, because there was a large tear on Zeke’s shoulders and his arms were now soaked with blood.

Zeke was on his feet the next moment, growling at the threat of a man before him.

She watched in an instant as fur curled around his body, bones snapped into place and he changed into his red wolf. His wounds were healing fast, but he would only sustain more if they didn’t find a way to take down Jarred.

The man was yet to even transform and he was already this fast. How much faster when he transformed? It’d be better to knock him out before he does.

Moreover, if Cain’s left-hand man was this powerful, how strong was Cain himself? And wasn’t Cain supposed to be at the West right now dining with the council?

This was really a bad time for Sylas to be gone.

Wolfe did say he was to be back tonight. Hopefully, it won’t be too late before he arrives.

Zeke’s wolf glanced subtly at her. She took a step toward him cautiously, but Jarred was suddenly in front of her, his large palm coming for her head.

She moved with a burst of speed, but his claws grazed her arm a little bit, drawing blood.

A growl split out of Zeke’s lips, and he attacked Jarrek. He had snapped and hauled himself at the large man.

Zeke hit him like a storm finally breaking.

The impact shook the cave. Stone cracked, and dust burst into the air as Zeke’s red wolf slammed Jarred backwards, his jaws snapping for his throat.

Jarred barely twisted aside, the wolf’s teeth grazing skin instead of crushing bone. Even then, the force sent him skidding several feet, boots carving lines into the rock.

Theo didn’t think. She moved. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Her body surged with power, heat rushing through her veins as she launched herself from the ground. She landed low, claws slashing for Jarred’s legs. This time, she connected and tore his flesh.

His blood splattered against dark stone.

Jarred laughed darkly. A rough, pleased, and dangerous sound.

"Well then," He rumbled, straightening slowly, with his eyes glinting, "The bride bites hard too,"

He backhanded her.

The blow sent Theo flying. She slammed into a rock column, the air knocked clean out of her lungs. Pain exploded through her ribs, and she barely had time to gasp before the cave floor cracked beside her.

Zeke’s eyes snapped in her direction in worry before he crashed into Jarred again, his teeth sinking into the man’s shoulder.

Jarred snarled, finally snapping. His body shuddered violently. His bones shifted and his already larger muscles welled, then his aura detonated outward like a bomb.

Theo felt it in her chest.

Jarred’s transformation was brutal. Fur tore through skin, dark and coarse, his frame expanding until he was larger than Zeke’s wolf, built purely for destruction.

One eye burned golden, and the other was covered by large, terrible scars she almost felt bad for him, and the look only made him look even more terrifying.

"Now," Jarred growled, voice layered with a beast’s echo, "This is fair,"

He grabbed Zeke mid-air and slammed him into the cave wall multiple times. Zeke snarled in pain but didn’t release, claws raking down Jarred’s chest.

Theo forced herself upright, ignoring the ringing in her ears.

She gathered herself, pulling deep from that wild place inside her. Seraphina answered instantly. Power flooded her limbs, and her vision sharpened once again.

She sprinted.

Jarred turned too late.

Theo leapt, using the cave wall as leverage, and flipping over his shoulder right before she drove both claws straight into his back. She screamed as she did it, not from fear but pure, burning fury.

Jarred roared from the pain, staggering forward.

Zeke didn’t waste the opening.

He struck hard and fast, jaws locking around Jarred’s throat as both wolves crashed to the ground, rolling, snarling, and still tearing at each other.
