Chapter 155: What do you want, Heather?

Everyone who knew so far were people she didn’t have to worry about much.

Heather was the last person she wanted to know. Hell, she wouldn’t want her to know at all.

As Theo stood there listening to her speak, her fear rose. Heather was going to use this fragile piece of information against her, for as long as she stayed here at Gravemont. She could already see the mischief curling in her eyes as she walked back to her front.

"Or should I say...Theodora Blackthorn,"

"Blackthorn...," Theo narrowed her eyes a bit, "Isn’t that Alpha Darius’s daughter? What does she have to do with me?"

Heather shook her head in amusement, "You’re really good at this. Look at you, standing there looking so composed and refined. Just admit that you’re her and we’ll move on to the next stage of this conversation,"

Theo didn’t flinch. Her expression stayed bored and unimpressed, like Heather was talking about someone else entirely, "People really will say anything when they’re desperate for attention," she said coolly, "If that’s all, move,"

Heather laughed slowly and delightedly, like she’d been waiting for that exact response, "Oh, no. You don’t get to dismiss this," she said, stepping closer again, "Not when your entire little life here is balanced on one lie,"

Gina stopped chewing her gum.

Then, Heather leaned in, and her voice dropped, "Do you have any idea what would happen if anyone, or let’s say, someone like Miss Jocelyn, found out you’re not just breaking academy rules, but committing treason-level fraud?"

"You think Jocelyn cares about rumours?" Theo scoffed, "She already hates me. You’d be doing me a favour,"

"Oh, I wouldn’t tell her like a rumour." Heather straightened back up, and then turned her head slightly, her eyes sharp, "I’d tell her like a gift,"

Theo’s spine went rigid.

"I’d walk straight into her," Heather continued unhurriedly, "and say, ’That short redheaded guy you hate so much? Guess what? That’s actually Darius’s daughter hiding here at the academy pretending to be someone else’s I’d tell her you’ve been deceiving professors, sharing dorms, rehearsing, training—everything!"

Gina’s grin crept wider.

"And if Jocelyn doesn’t believe me?" Heather shrugged lightly, "That’s where the Commandant comes in," 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

Theo’s heart slammed hard against her ribs.

"They’ll make you shift," Heather said calmly, "Right there. In front of everyone. Then there’ll be no more excuses, nor hiding behind trousers and short hair," Her eyes glittered, "A silver wolf doesn’t get to stay hidden!"

Theo’s fists clenched at her sides, her nails biting into her palms. Seraphina snarled low in her chest, pacing and furious, *Let’s kill her right here, Theo. Both of them* She suggested desperately, *We can drag them to the cave. Their bodies wouldn’t be found that easily*

*I don’t want to kill anyone*

*But she deserves it! She’s been nasty right from day one!*

*If I kill her, Liam’s gonna get worried and if anyone ever found out it’s me, a war between the North and West would be inevitable*

*Oh my God, Theo!* Seraphina growled furiously, "I get you being worried about Liam, but a war between the North and West has always been inevitable! They’re gonna go to war no matter what! It’s in their freaking DNA!"

*I... can’t kill Heather, alright?*

*Then threaten her back! Do something!*

*I have nothing to threaten her back with!*

*Ugh! You’re too good for your own good!*

"Well," Heather said pleasantly, taking a step back, "I should go. The Commandant’s office is still lit at this hour," She started walking.

She took one step forward with Gina following, and then another.

"Theodora Blackthorn doesn’t exist," Theo said tightly.

Heather stopped, but didn’t turn.

"She exists," Theo went on, voice shaking now despite her control, "but she has nothing to do with Gravemont,"

Heather resumed walking.

"Stop,"

Heather paused again, this time slow and deliberate.

Theo swallowed. Every instinct screamed at her to fight, to lie harder but this wasn’t a fight she could win with fists. Scratch that, she could win it with fists and do as Seraphina told her and it would all be over, but her conscience wouldn’t let her. She was nothing like those heartless wolves out there...or the even crueller demon locked inside her that kept claiming they were the same person. She wouldn’t give her that satisfaction, if it meant risking it.

"...Fine," Theo said, the word tasting like blood.

Heather turned back quickly, satisfaction already written across her face.

Theo lifted her chin, eyes burning, "Yes. I’m her,"

Heather smiled like she’d just won something precious, then clapped both hands excitedly, "Wow! You really just admitted it. Birdie was right." Heather walked back to her and stared at her like she was seeing her for the first time. "You are a girl!"

Theo glared at her, "What do you want, Heather?"

"Wait, wait, wait, does Liam know about this? That his so-called Best buddy is a girl?" She chuckled then made a sad face, "Awwwn, I did notice that you guys haven’t been talking much these days. What happened? Trouble in paradise?"

*I’m dying in here, Theo. I’m gonna kill her very soon* Seraphina groaned, fuming terribly.

*Don’t! Stay down*

"What. Do. You. Want." Theo enunciated, her voice strained and sharp.

"Oh!" Heather wasn’t done just yet, "I could imagine the look on my brother’s face when I tell him you’re a girl. He’s gonna be so disappointed, gosh,"

"You won’t tell him!"

"Oh, I might just tell him for the fun of it," She laughed again, "And to watch you break when I do. Remember, you did this to yourself the moment you stood between me and that bitch, Ava. You should never have messed with me, Dora!"

Dora. That was what her brothers called her.

"Tell me what you want already, Heather,"

"What I’ve wanted from the very beginning, and I heard he’s actually your roommate and you guys are pretty close which makes it even more perfect!" She clapped again with a laugh, "Which is why you’re gonna help make Zeke Pendragon...MINE,"

MINE.

That word had Theo’s claws shooting out involuntarily, and a deadly flare crossed her eyes.

Heather took a step back, her eyes wide with fear and shock.

*Calm down, Seraphina* Theo murmured, feeling equally wrathful, *Zeke can never be hers. Let’s just hear what she has to say!*

*I’ve heard enough!!* She snarled, and a bit of it made it out of Theo’s lips.

Theo forced her face to turn neutral again, then she looked up at Heather and smiled, "Let’s continue this conversation in a bit!"

With that, Theo took off running. She dove under the closest staircase just in time as a Bloodcurdling Snarl ripped out from her tongue, and she slammed a fist to the concrete slope above her head.

The next second, the whole staircase crumbled to the floor.

That would have been Heather’s head, courtesy of Seraphina, if Theo hadn’t run out just in time.
