The Forbidden Heiress At The All Male Alpha Academy-Chapter 121: A Heart Too Broken
This person standing in front of him, he didn’t know who she was. The face, body structure, and scent he was used to were totally different, so right now this person was a complete stranger to him.
A stranger who knew everything about him.
She stepped closer again, "Listen to me,"
Zeke looked up at her, "Listen to you?" He almost laughed, even though it hurt so bad, "Listen to your lies, you mean,"
"No, I didn’t mean to. It wasn’t...,"
"I don’t know who you are!" He exclaimed in anger, "I’ve never met you before. You’re creeping me out so just stay the fuck away from me,"
Even as he said that, he didn’t want her to. Under the Moon, the mate bond tugged between them again. That powerful pull that made his wolf want nothing more than to be close to her, but Zeke forcefully took a step back.
"I only have one question to ask you," He finally cracked out, and his eyes darkened slightly as he shifted his gaze to Sylas, and then back at her. Betrayal has never hit anyone that hard, especially someone like him who’s been stabbed in the back over and over again.
"Tell me something," He continued, his voice barely a whisper, "Were you ever mine? Or was it all for nothing?"
"You were...," She wanted to run to him, she wanted to embrace him and kiss him, but every step she took forward, he would take two backwards, "Of course, Zeke. I...I love you,"
He shook his head fervently with a painful laugh, "You got the wrong person, you should turn around and tell that to the Warden,"
"I’m being sincere! I love you, I swear!"
"Let’s say you were," He replied, "Does that mean you don’t love Sylas?"
The flash of guilt on her face was enough of an answer for him, and he turned around and started to walk away. He couldn’t continue being around her right now, or the pain might grow so much that he would be tempted to rip out his own heart.
Theo ran after him.
"Venom...!"
She turned around and lashed furiously, "No!" She yelled, tears in her eyes, "He needs me more than you do right now. I need him,"
And then, she continued to run after him.
She kept calling his name but there was no answer. She heard the cracking of bones and then a powerful roar ripped through the forest as his red wolf sped off back toward the cottage.
She followed.
By the time she got there, he was already inside and had locked the door and all the windows. Theo pressed her ears against the door, trying to make out any sound.
It was too silent. Was he even breathing? What if his illness comes back? He needs her to get a good sleep.
"Zeke, I beg you," She cried with short, convulsed breaths, "Please, open the door and let me explain everything. I never meant to hurt you, with my secret or being together with Sylas. It wasn’t my intention, please open the door so we can talk,"
There was no movement from inside. She kept banging softly, calling his name and saying everything she could to convince him to come back, but it made no difference.
At some point, she sat on the porch with her back against the door. Every few seconds, she would knock.
Theo sniffed softly, then she completely broke down and started to bawl hard. She buried her hand between her legs and cried about everything. Zeke’s pain and betrayal haunted her so much. She had kept it from him for good reason, but maybe she had been wrong to do so.
He had trusted her with his pain. She should have tried to do so, too.
She heard some movement from inside, and she shot up to her feet, wiping her eyes and began knocking even harder.
"Zeke, please open the door and let me explain everything to you,"
Silence met her again, but she could feel his presence in the living room. She could feel his burning rage, his devastation, his depressed state. She could feel his heart ripping into shreds.
And she knew he was listening to her, even though he wasn’t saying anything.
"I came to Gravemont pretending to be my cousin, Thaddeus Douglas. It was because I was trying to run away from someone and I...," She sniffed again, "I just wanted to be safe, and I wanted to be free from everything. And then I met you, and you said your mate was supposed to be the wearer of the pendant, but I didn’t believe you at first. And you know a lot of things happened, things that terrified me and made it even more complicated for me. Hiding this from you...has made me feel terrible, Zeke. But I was afraid you were gonna hate me if you found out who I really was. I was afraid you were gonna walk away from me. I was so afraid...," Her voice cracked and lowered as another badge of tears came through, "that’s why I didn’t tell you. That’s why I hesitated every time I was with you, that’s why I couldn’t say yes to you, because of this secret. And I’m so so sorry for lying to you all this time. I promise I’m the same person you’ve always known, and I never meant to hurt you. I thought I was doing the right thing by keeping it from you, so please... please forgive me for hurting you. I could never hurt you, not on purpose, Never. Please, Zeke..." She softly banged again, "Please open the door. Please. I want to see you. I need to see you, please...,"
Still, silence came after.
She stood for a while, sobbing against the door, her heart too heavy to keep standing till she slipped back and sat on the porch, burying her head between her legs.
She didn’t want to lose Zeke. She didn’t want this to break them, but she had already broken him. She had broken the broken man even more, and there was no telling or guarantee that he was ever going to recover from this.
Zeke has never had anyone for him. The good ones had died off, and the bad ones had shown their true colours and broken him. She didn’t want to be one of those people to him.
She wanted to be better.
She wanted to make amends.
But what was she supposed to do if he kept refusing to talk to her?
