Chapter 120: Full Moon, Full Break

Why was Hellcat a woman? Was this some kind of fucked up big time hallucination?

It didn’t look like it, even though he wished it were.

He had been restless ever since she left, thinking those wolves following them might have gotten their hands on her. It was still the night of the full moon after all, and the hunting spree hadn’t sufficed.

So he had left the cottage, trailing her scent. He had kept his aura and presence silent, just in case he happened to run into an enemy instead. As he walked deeper into the woods, he heard strange noises.

And scents in the air.

Familiar.

He panicked and ran closer.

As he did, the sound cleared up and...he heard moaning, with the voice of someone familiar. Very familiar.

And the scent. It was musky. A combination of Wild Jasmine with a hint of pine that messed with his head, and he was pretty sure that scent was also familiar.

He caught it coming from Hellcat the first time they’d shared the same bed, the next morning they had woken up, and she had run into the bathroom with the duvet over her head.

A feminine scent. He had thought it was very strange, especially with the way it had overlapped with the pine scent after he had stepped out of the bathroom.

Strange, indeed.

A lot of things had been strange. Things he had still somehow... ignored, telling himself that he was overthinking it.

But standing here right now, staring at a woman who looked too much like the guy he was in love with, reeking of that same scent that drove his wolf insane, and pressed up against Sylas...was enlightening.

It wasn’t just enlightening. It told him just how stupid he had been... just how foolish he had been all this while.

It suddenly made sense.

Everything did. How Hellcat was the one wearing the pendant. How it felt so right whenever they were close. How he would sometimes watch her, and a part of him, a deep part, would wish Hellcat wasn’t...male. It was because that side of him has been trying to tell him the truth this whole time.

He stared directly into her eyes and saw the truth written there. The panic and fear as she trembled, just as Sylas tried to shield her with his body.

Sylas knew. Sylas knew Hellcat was...a girl.

Something inside Zeke snapped in half, and his anger bloomed into a kind of rage he couldn’t hold back. He didn’t move at first, because he was desperately trying to control himself.

His anger has never been bad, and he didn’t want her to see this side of him again. But it was as if someone was pouring more petrol into his raging veins, and his wolf roared and growled inside of him.

Theo couldn’t change back even if she wanted to. Seraphina was too terrified and shocked to move inside of her.

Zeke’s fury ripped off him like heatwaves, and the air thickened more with the scent of an Alpha about to lose control.

Sylas didn’t flinch. He kept shielding her with his body, while his calm cutting eyes remained glued on Zeke.

"Move," Zeke snarled so deeply it was definitely his wolf speaking through him, "Move out of the way, Sylas before I fucking make you!"

"No," Sylas didn’t even blink.

Zeke’s jaw locked, and his muscles bunched violently. He took a step forward and the earth shuddered under his weight.

Theo gasped softly, and Zeke whipped his head at her. When their eyes met again, she saw the pain growing in his eyes. The pain and the betrayal that had so much guilt flooded her chest.

"Don’t you shield...her," Zeke said through clenched teeth, still staring at her, "Don’t you dare act like you care more than I do,"

"I’m not acting," Sylas said calmly

Zeke let out an empty, hollow laugh. It sounded more like he was shattering from the inside, "You knew," He cracked, then laughed again, "Who am I kidding? Of course, you did. You know everything,"

"She wasn’t mine to expose," Sylas said to him softly, "She deserves to tell you at her own time, by herself,"

Zeke had yet to break eye contact with her, and the pain only grew, "Was...she ever going to tell me?"

She never wanted to find out like this. It shouldn’t be like this, and she had no idea what it was doing to him. She could only tremble as she watched the emotions in his eyes, one that conveyed the deepest kind of pain.

"...she let me think...," His breath choked.

"She wasn’t hiding to hurt you,"

Theo opened her mouth to speak, but they were dry and empty. The agony in his eyes was killing her. She made a devastated sound, and Zeke stared at her more intently.

Sylas covered her again before Zeke could get a full look.

"Don’t," Zeke warned again, "If you keep standing between us Sylas, I swear on the Moon Goddess that I will-"

"You won’t touch her," There was steel under Sylas’s calm now, "You know why? Because even at your angriest, you’re not a monster!"

Zeke shook violently, and his claws curled so hard they dug into his palm. He was fighting every instinct to fight, to move, to not break, "You don’t get to tell me what I am!"

Theo placed a firm hand on Sylas’s shoulder and urged him to move aside. She had worn her shirt, and there were tears in her eyes. The guilt in her and the sadness in his eyes had tears gathering in hers, and every step she took forward made her want to crumble.

Zeke stared at her.

Clearly, without the filter on her face.

Her large, amber eyes.

Her full pink lips.

The curves he could see through her clothes.

Her hair that looked softer.

Her oval face.

Her delicate skin.

Everything that made her look different.

Everything that made her feminine.

His heart cracked even more. He had been lied to.

She had been lying on him all this while, and he had been the stupidest person not to have known that his own roommate for a month, was a fucking female wolf!

He had opened up everything to her, and she had kept something so important from him. Even after he told her he needed a female to free him from his impending death, she still hid it. Even after he had told her his past, she hid it.

She had taken him for granted.

Theo finally spoke, crying profusely, "Z...zeke..."

"Stay the Fuck away from me!"
