The Faceless Billionaire Celebrity Wife-Chapter 62: Liam Anderson’s Call.
"He says he’s not downstairs so you can come in," Shikera insisted for the umpteenth time, to her friend who refused to come into Ethan’s villa but wanted to go to Raymond’s instead. Since they arrived in Shikera’s car a few minutes ago, Cyprian had insisted she didn’t want to trouble ’Ethan DeLoach’ and would prefer they went to the villa at the back for their research instead.
"But I’m going to restrict his movement in his own house," Cyprian gave another flimsy excuse while hoping that Shikera gave in this time. Why was her dumb head friend not understanding that she needed to see her boyfriend at this time?
"But..." Shikera started to protest when her phone pinged. She looked down to see it was a message from Ethan which read,
"I’m over here at the lakeside with Raymond and the rest so feel free to do your thing."
Releasing a loud sigh of relief, she raised up her phone to show Cyprian the message and the latter, seeing there was no way out for herself, reluctantly agreed and walked into the house with Shikera.
Inside the villa, Shikera went upstairs to change her clothes and bring down her laptop while Cyprian went to the kitchen to make a smoothie for herself and her friend.
Ten minutes later, the both of them were settled on the couch with a serious expression on their faces as if they were going to war. Shikera typed something into the laptop and they stared intently at the screen for a few minutes in silence.
Cyprian broke the silence, saying "You understand this, Kera?"
The one to whom the question was addressed to, shook her head vigorously as she didn’t understand one bit of the coloured fluctuating lines which was on the screen of her laptop. She knew they represented the rising and falling of stock prices of a particular company but that was it. Nothing more.
"Kera," Cyprian called again. "Why didn’t we pay more attention to things like this when we were in university?"
"Because we thought we didn’t need them since we were going to be simple entertainment reporters," Shikera answered her.
"And do we regret it now?"
"Yes, we do."
It was in this same rueful state that they say for the next hour, without being able to understand anything on the laptop. Once in a while, one of them would suggest requesting help from the business experts outside but the other would disagree.
"What if we didn’t know them?" That was the phrase the righteous and dumb reporters used to dissuade themselves.
As darkness was already descending, Cyprian stood up to take her leave and Shikera accompanied her outside. She texted Ethan about this update and waited for his reply which came almost immediately.
At the back of the villa, Ethan looked up from his phone to inform the others, "They are done now so you can leave."
His gaze was especially fixed on Raymond as he waited to see the man’s reaction. He was not dissapointed, because Raymond immediately bolted from his seat as soon as he heard that. He, on the other hand, stood up and leaving Ruthlyn and Enoch still sitting, walked into the villa.
The Parking Lot.
Shikera closed the car door after herself, as she wanted to give Cyprian a ride to the highway, as she would not be able to get a taxi or call an Uber to this secluded area which was owned by Ethan.
"Seatbelt," she reminded Cyprian, before turning the key in the car’s ignition to have it splutter to life.
The car jerked backwards as it began to move, when Raymond suddenly appeared at the driver’s seat window.
He tapped on it while whispering something and Shikera had to whine down the window to hear him.
"I’m so sorry, Miss Anderson! Can I... borrow Rian for a while?" He asked, throwing a quick smile at Cyprian who was seated at the other side.
Shikera looked from one to the other of the couple, before nodding,
"Is that all you need? You don’t want me to get you something like..."
Seeing the mischievous smile which suddenly appeared on her friend’s lips, Cyprian was quick to clamp her own hand over her mouth to stop her from uttering nonsense. She opened the car door on her side and got out, walking over the side to stand beside Raymond.
The latter didn’t forget to thank Shikera before pulling Cyprian away from there.
Watching them walk away, Shikera grinned widely before alighting from her car and walking into the villa.
Ethan was in the kitchen when she entered so she went straight to meet him there.
"Thank for toler—" She was about to thank him for tolerating her request when he interrupted her.
"I see Raymond already hijacked your friend."
It was not a question but a statement, and Shikera was quick to notice that.
"How did you know that?"
"It’s because I’m not an idiot," he joked, changing the subject of discussion immediately. "You have to visit your doctor this week, so inform me whenever you’re less busy."
"You don’t have to..."
"Why don’t you go up to your room and wait for me? I’m going to be making use of processed food products so you can’t stay."
Shikera complied and walked up the stairs to her room. She pushed open the door and stepped in, when her eyes caught the window which opened to the rare sight of the golden orange sun setting in the west. Since she started living here, she had never been opportuned to view this kind of rare natural beauty.
She stepped closer to the window and gazed out of it, a bright smile spread on her face and her eyes sparkling in excitement. She opened her mouth to yell into the distance when she heard Ethan’s voice calling out to her.
"Shikera!"
She rushed to the door and opened it, a questioning gaze in her eyes.
"Your father wants to speak to you," Ethan informed, stretching out the phone in his hand to her.
Looking suspiciously from Ethan’s face to the phone as if trying to determine if he was lying, Shikera grabbed the phone from his hands and placed it on her ears.
"Shikera?" She heard that voice she loved the most in this world and her heart leaped in excitement.
"Daddy?"
"It’s me, Princess. I’m so sorry I took so long to call even though I knew you would have wanted to reach me so many times. I lost my phone immediately I got to the island over here..."
Shikera knew he was lying. It was most likely that his phone was confiscated from him so as to disallow him from calling her at everything single moment he could spare. If that was not the case, why did he have to call Ethan even though he wanted to speak to his own daughter.
However, she was going to play along.
"Seriously, Dad! If I wasn’t able to Attorney Leigh, I would have been worried to death," she replied, hoping her lie was foolproof enough for her father not to detect anything wrong.
In truth, she had not contacted her father or any of those who travelled with him, because she wanted him to be free of his sickly daughter for a while. If this year was all he had to be spared from her, then she would gladly offer it.
She continued, "But Ethan accompanied me well so you don’t have to worry." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
"Ethan? You are on first name basis with each other?"
