Chapter 59: What Love Entails.

Cyprian parked her car at the front of the villa before alighting from it, and calling Raymond.

"I’m out here," she informed.

"Come over to the back."

She hung up and walked around the corner of the Villa, coming to stand in front of another Villa which looked exactly the same as the one in front.

She walked to the door and rang the doorbell, not surprised when the door opened immediately to Raymond’s handsome face.

"Hey!" She walked into the house and removed her shoes, stepping into the living room’s marble tiled floor.

She noted how the interior decoration of the two villas was also alike, before turning to Raymond to ask,

"Where did everyone go?"

"No idea. They probably abandoned me here thinking I would be bored to death but then...I have you," he chuckled, walking towards Cyprian with a purposeful look in his eyes.

Just as his hand was about to touch her, Cyprian flinched, placing her hand over her belly while her face scrunched up in pain.

"What’s wrong, Rian?!" Raymond was quick to ask, noticing the abrupt change in expression.

"I think...I’m hungry..." The pain filled look in her eyes was replaced with a pitiful one, as she stared up to look at Raymond.

"Hungry? That’s bad, I can’t just order...Would you mind if I just whip up something simple?" he asked, before adding after a brief pause, "I can’t guarantee that it would be delicious or edible though."

Cyprian chuckled in spite of herself, at the sight of his baffled expression.

"Does a hungry stomach care about good food? You still owe me from that night at my place so you better get to work!" She pretended to be inpatient as she watched him walk into the kitchen, before removing the hand she placed on her belly and reverting her face back to it’s blank expression, happy that her trick had worked.

She was not a fool not to know what Raymond was suggesting by asking her to come over to his place. It was because he believed that what they would do would be impossible if he came over to her place instead, as her brothers were always around most of the time.

"Cyprian, don’t you wanna come over to the kitchen and watch me? I don’t think I’m using this..." he trailed off without completing his sentence, making Cyprian run over to the kitchen. She might not be keen on letting Raymond have his way soon, but she also wasn’t keen on going to heaven before her time too.

Shikera glanced through the display glass to pick out the flavor of ice cream she wanted, while feeling the warmth of Ethan’s large hand which had been wrapped around hers for a while now. As this place was unfamiliar to her since it was her first time here, she let Ethan guide her through the Parlor.

"That!" She exclaimed, pointing to a strawberry flavored ice cream which looked like it was smiling to her.

Ethan nodded at her choice and pulled her along with him to the cashier, as he pulled out his credit card from his back pocket at the same time. Unknown to him, Shikera had done the same thing and when they both stretched out their black cards which was gold trimmed around the edges, to the woman behind the desk at the same time, they were just as shocked as she was.

The woman looked from one of them to the other, wondering if their ice cream parlor had admitted two thieves or con men as customers. Why else would this two who were dressed identically and also in black facemask and facecap be holding a black card each?

This kind of card was only seven in their country because it was mainly for the heads of the Mega families, and not even any random wealthy family from outside their country could have access to it.

"Let me pay," the sleek voice of the man jolted her out of her thoughts as she looked up to see the man and woman arguing about who should pay...for this mere ice cream?!

"I bought it and I’m the one eating it. You already accompanied me here which is more than enough..." Shikera protested, placing her card on the cashier’s desk. Just as the woman was about to pick it up, Ethan placed his on it.

"I’m not complaining about that. You should let me pay for this." Ethan was not about to back down too.

Seeing this, Shikera picked her card and brought out cash from her pocket to pay the woman. She pushed Ethan card back to him, a mischievous smirk on her face as she flaunted her victory to him.

The latter picked up the card with an expressionless face and walked out, this time without holding Shikera’s hand. He was silent all through the drive back home, and all of Shikera’s flimsy attempts to start a conversation was drowned in the music he played in the car.

It was a short drive back to the villa and they were quick to get back home, as they had not gone far in the first place. Ethan turned the key in the car’s ignition before alighting, and walking straight towards the door without waiting for Shikera.

She frowned when she saw his sudden strange attitude before running to catch up with him.

"Did I offend you?"

Ethan unlocked the door, pushing it open for her to walk in before following.

"You didn’t. There’s no way you would," he answered her question.

"Then, why have you been gloomy and quiet since earlier?" Shikera pressed.

"Broody? I wasn’t gloomy but I was quiet, and that’s because I was thinking about something."

"Then, tell me what you’re thinking about." Sensing his reluctance before he could even open his mouth, she was quick to add, "Or would you rather keep it away from me? How would you love me then, to the extent where I would really want to stay with you?"

Ethan sighed,"It’s nothing as I said. I only remembered the reason why I hesitated in letting you know of my feelings four years ago."

He took a step forward but Shikera pulled him back, the earlier smile on her face having disappeared.

"What was the reason?"

"It was because there was nothing I could give you, both then and now. There’s nothing you would benefit from dating me..."

"What..."

"I can’t do what other men do for their wives or girlfriends, for you. I can’t buy you dresses and jewelries because you’re equally capable of doing it yourself, I can’t pay your bills because you’ve probably paid that of ten years in advance. I was reminded of that when I wasn’t able to pay for that, today," he concluded, gesturing at the plastic bag which held the ice cream they bought earlier.

Shikera laughed, not minding if Ethan was staring strangely at her.

"Wait," she said, in between laughter. "I can see why you like contracts a lot, Ethan. The give me I give you mentality has already been ingrained in your mindset so much that you think it’s the same with love too."

Ethan stayed silent, watching the crinkled side of Shikera’s eyes which was caused by the excessive laughter.

"Ethan, when I date you, I shouldn’t expect anything except for love and respect from you and vice versa. That’s what love is," she explained patiently.

However, Ethan disagreed with her.
