Chapter 53: Nightmare Dispelling Kiss.

"Andrew Lane?" His jaw ticking, Ethan asked. "You seem close to him."

"What do you expect? It’s a press station and we are in the entertainment department, we have to stay on good terms with everyone," Shikera said, slumping on the sofa which was directly opposite Ethan. Subconsciously, she noticed they never really sat close to, but always opposite each other unless they were in a car where they had no choice. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

As if Ethan noticed at the same time, he stood up from the couch he was sitting and went to sit behind her, albeit keeping a distance between them.

"Does maintaining good terms require you to have dinner with him? And alone at that," he insisted.

Shikera turned to look at him, her eyebrows raised as she said,"We weren’t alone. But...why do I feel like we have talked more in the past four days than we have done since we got married?"

"Because that’s true. I asked you more questions and you answered more often," Ethan stated, his eyes unwaveringly fixed on Shikera’s brown ones.

"And why’s that so?"

"Because I stopped seeing you as a gossipy reporter and because we will be having a business-like agreement between us," Ethan’s eyes had left Shikera’s eyes and had strayed down to her lips. Come to think of it, he thought, was it Shikera he had liked then or was it her lips? Why couldn’t he stay with her for a minute without his eyes straying downwards?

"Then...are you considering removing your mask?" Shikera’s voice snapped him out of his thoughts.

"Why should I? I cover my face for a completely different reason," he informed her, noticing the slight furrow in her brows before they returned back to normal. However, he was not allowed to think much about it as she stood up immediately.

"I will be in my room for a while so..."

"What about my kiss?" Ethan interrupted her, like he couldn’t believe she had forgotten something so important.

On the other hand, Shikera was speechless as she stared at the man before her. Why was he this brazen and shameless?! She understood that this was just a simple business deal and that he didn’t have any feelings whatsoever for her but still, couldn’t he fil...

"Don’t tell me you changed your mind."

"I...I didn’t, it’s just..."

Her mouth clamped shut as she felt Ethan’s lips meet hers in a fiery embrace, igniting a spark that sent shivers down her spine. Shikera wasn’t allowed to feel shocked as she had totally transcended into another world, a world of passion and desire, of longing and pleasure.

His mouth teased hers, parting her lips and letting his tongue explore her mouth. Muddle headed, Shikera faintly wondered if the kiss required by their business deal was supposed to be a french kiss.

She didn’t know how much time had passed by and she didn’t wish to know, but when their lips separated and she couldn’t feel her legs, she knew they had kissed for more than a minute. And how the hell was her back now touching the wall and her legs wrapped around Ethan?!

As soon as she thought that, her legs unwrapped themselves and she dropped unceremoniously to the ground, before Ethan’s hand supported her up.

"I uhm... guess you can go to your room now," Ethan broke the palpable silence which had ensued between them.

Without answering, Shikera shuffled her feet and took long strides until she got to the stairs. As soon as her feet touched the lowest step, her speed increases immeasurably and she was in her room within seconds.

"What just happened, Shikera?!" She screamed silently, while making sure her voice couldn’t be heard by anyone outside the door. Coupled with the fact that she had already embarrassed herself by getting out of hand when they were simply kissing, she could not let Ethan think she was one inexperienced girl.

With that thought in mind, she walked to her door and locked it, before retrieving her laptop from her bag.

"How to show experience while kissing?" She typed, clicking on the search button to check the results.

"How am I supposed to understand all this?" she mumbled, prepared to exit the page when a particular person’s comment caught her eyes.

Shikera read it aloud, "Why pretend to show experience if the experience isn’t there? Simply practice with the said person as much as you can and you’ll get it right."

Though the comment didn’t reassure her one bit, the likes on the comment simply showed her that there were many people like her out there who lacked experienced too and that relieved her.

Shikera knocked on Ethan’s study, and was surprised when he opened the door immediately, as if he had been right behind the door. Her sixth sense disputed that though, since his black eyes looked unfocused and sleepy as they settled on her.

"You are here," his voice, husky from sleep, tugged at the strings of her sleep. He opened the door wide enough for her to enter and Shikera stepped in, her eyes widening in awe at the room’s interior. It looked like the perfect place she would like to stay in.

The walls were painted in light grey colour, a colour she had come to associate with Ethan as he was neither white nor black, and the light, which was emitting a subtle purple glow, was warm and inviting. A large desk was in one corner of the room with an equally large chair but Shikera didn’t pay attention to that, her eyes were instead on the floor to ceiling window which overlooked the garden and lake at the back of the villa.

At this moment, the moon was high up in the sky and it’s reflection casting crystal ripples on the water surface which created a very beautiful scene. Her eyes fell on the cushion in the corner, the rugs and all the artworks up till the teacup on the table, and she was quick to catch the accents of deep purple in them.

Ethan who had closed the door after her, didn’t move away from his position as he tried to examine her expression and see if she really loved the style he had decorated the study in and his heart leaped when he saw the soft smile on her lips and the look of admiration in her eyes. He had tried to blend the colour purple she liked into the room’s decorations, while not discarding the fact that he liked his room in monotonous colours.

"You had to work late again?" he asked, his eyes straying to the grandfather clock which was placed on the wall. The time was 11:30 pm.

"No. We had dinner with my boss and his father," Shikera sighed out loud, failing to notice the frown which settled on Ethan’s face.

She continued, "The man was congratulating us since it seems our department would emerge as the best performing for this year. Thank God Leonard came to rescue me early,"

"Who is Leonard?"

"He’s my boyfriend..."
