Chapter 253: Where’s My Mummy?

Ruthlyn crept away from the living room up to her own room, unable to bear the tension in the living room. Cyprian and Raymond were causing trouble with their prolonged stares at each other without saying anything. She was beginning to think they were talking with their eyes.

"Won’t you change out of that pajamas?" Cyprian asked, breaking the heavy silence in the room, following Ruthlyn’s departure.

"You are not the one wearing it," Raymond deadpanned, his tone curt and emotionless. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

Cyprian picked up her bag and stood up, ready to leave the villa. She had no idea why she was here in the first place anyways.

"Oh... alright then. I just felt you might be uncomfortable in it," she muttered.

"Where are you going?"

"Home," Cyprian replied.

Raymond chuckled, "You really don’t care, right? You want to leave for home when I’m like this?!"

Cyprian was startled, having no clue on what Raymond was talking about. Wasn’t the exact reason she was leaving because he was like that? His mood was bad.

"Then where do I go?" she managed to ask.

"Of course, you have to just sit here in front of you and let me watch you as much as I want until I am calm! Cyprian, you might not want to see me right now but you have no choice. You made me anxious and you have to make corrections now."

As he talked, he walked towards Cyprian and sat her down on the leather sofa, before walking back to sit opposite her.

"Is anything the problem, Ray?" Cyprian asked. His words were confusing her to no end. Earlier when she saw him at the police station, he had simply wiped his eyes and walked away. She had to run after him to know what was wrong with him, but she had been ignored.

She would have gone back to the hotel but for Esther who was clinging to her, and whom she had to bring back home.

"Don’t ask me," Raymond replied.

Cyprian sighed impatiently. As much as she wanted to stay here and continue the staring competition, she also wanted to leave here so she could get a chance to call Shikera. She needed to inform her Ethan was back.

"I need your help," Ethan went straight to the point.

"Help? Did you offend my sister and need my help to apologize?"

"No, I wouldn’t call for that. I need your help," Ethan repeated.

"If it helps, I’m currently on a—"

"Shikera is missing." Just as Ethan expected, Noah fell silent immediately he heard that.

"Why are you telling me this? You don’t want to find her cause she’s not an Anderson?" Noah asked, knowing the answer to his question even before Ethan replied.

"I can’t," Ethan admitted without hesitation. "And that’s why I called you."

"To find her? Stop the jokes, Ethan, you do know I can’t find what you were unable to."

"I think you can, this time around. You are the safest person I can—"

"Will try, Ethan. I just discovered my prey so..." he trailed off, knowing Ethan understood what he meant.

"Thanks, I’ll hang up now."

With that, Ethan disconnected the call and returned the phone to the drawer where he took it from. His hand moved sideways, picking up a stack of papers and raised it up.

’Funny,’ he thought. Even if this divorce papers were fake in terms of Shikera signing it under pressure, one glance at her signature at the end of the page still caused rage in his chest. Because he knew just a few words from Chris would not have made Shikera want to leave in just a few minutes. Her disappearance and the signed divorce papers also showed that she had planned this long before meeting with Chris.

"Daddy?!"

Ethan looked up, a small smile breaking out on his lips at the sight of Esther at the door of the study.

"Can I come in?" she asked excitedly.

Ethan rose to his feet and walked towards her.

"I’ll join you instead. How have you been?" he asked gently.

"Wonderful," Esther replied, her eyes roving around the room. "Where’s mummy? Didn’t she come back with you?"

"She...yeah, she’s not back yet," Ethan replied. He could guess that Esther thought he left home together with Shikera.

"Why? Wasn’t the vacation enough for mummy? But she missed me. Why is she not back yet?"

"Correct yourself, Princess. Your mum misses you not ’missed’ you; I’m sure she still misses you now," Ethan pointed out, to see Esther shake her head.

"No, daddy. It’s past tense, Mummy said she missed me," Esther insisted. "Let me call her and ask why she’s not home yet."

Esther took out her phone, recalling the exact emojis she saved Shikera’s number as. Mignon’s had similar emojis so Esther had to commit them to memory. As she searched her phone for the number, Ethan reached out and took the phone from her.

"Esther, you don’t have to call your Mom. She told me she’ll be here soon so why don’t we wait?" he coerced, not wanting to destroy Esther’s mood by letting her make a futile call to her mother’s number.

"Really?! I will wait patiently then! But, can I see Aunt Cyprian? I want to tell her a secret," Esther requested, grinning from ear to ear at the thought that her mothers would be returning that day.

"Alright," Ethan agreed.

"Are you okay? You think we should just postpone visiting my doctor until tomorrow?" Shikera asked as she stepped into the elevator with Mignon and Alan.

"Why wouldn’t I be okay? I’m not the one visiting the doctor. And besides, Grandma Cooper must be so worried already that we didn’t come back in a day, so we have to uhm...get back as soon as we can," Mignon replied.

"You want to go home, Mignon? I mean your ehm...your daughter, is here in the city but you want to return to that small island?!" Alan chipped in. Earlier during their meeting with Cyprian and Esther, he had heard enough from their conversations to be able to make out what was happening with Shikera and Mignon. And though neither Mignon nor Shikera had explained to him after that, he had switched to calling her her real name...Mignon.

"Yeah, she was totally alright without me so there’s no need taking my shitty self back to her," Mignon replied.

"Wrong, Mig. You saw Esther thinking I and Ethan went on a vacation alone, right? That’s just how lonely she really is. I wanted to stay for both myself and her but later I realized that I can only bring danger to her. So Mignon, except you can really let Esther go even after seeing her like that, you should stay. Grandma Cooper would be shocked, yes, but she won’t let you stay there after knowing there are people who need you here, and can protect you too."

At this moment, the elevator came to an halt with the doors opening. The trio stepped out of it and Shikera led them straight to the nurse’s desk.

"Hello, can I make an appointment to see Dr Krystal Alexander?" she asked.

"Yeah, though that would be kind of impossible now. Her schedule is totally full for the whole of this month so," the nurse replied.

"Next month then. I just have to know the exact date and then come back then."

"If you say so," the nurse nodded, her hand flying across the keyboard in front of her. "What’s your name, Miss?"

"Shikera Anderson," Shikera replied, before adding, "If Krystal sees this and happens to postpone my meeting her, just tell her this is very urgent so—"

"Kera? What are you doing over there?"

Shikera turned to see who was speaking to her, her eyes widening when she saw who it was.

"Leonard? How have you been?" she asked, already racking her brain on how she was going to escape this place without telling Leonard where she had been all this while.

"You think anyone would have been well. You know how it feels when you have so much money in hand but can’t find it? That’s how I felt, Kera. You are money to me, and probably Krystal too since she’s your personal doctor," Leonard joked, closing the distance between them.

Out of politeness, he bowed slightly in greeting to Shikera’s two companions before raising his head to look at them.

"Hello, I’m—The fuck am I seeing?! Mignon DeLoach?!" he yelled, his voice echoing along the empty hallways.

"Shut your mouth, Leonard! Her name is public now so do not shout it like that. How did you even recognize her behind the mask?" Shikera asked in confusion.

"Of course because she was my senior in school. All the boys crushed on her so it’s not surprising that I did too. Don’t worry though, she’s just a crush. You were the one in my heart the whole time," Leonard laughed, turning when he felt someone walking up behind him. The voice he heard next confirmed his hunch.

"Of course, Loser!"
