Chapter 238: Cool Idea.

"Then shouldn’t you know that her mother is dead? Am I supposed to use ’is’ while referring to a dead person?"

Forgetting everything that had happened the previous day, Cyprian and Raymond exchanged knowing glances, and the latter proceeded to correct Team leader Zuresh.

"Mrs Natalia Anderson is not dead," he stated.

"What are you saying?"

"Team leader, this is real. You remember Shikera’s outburst when she resigned from her post as Elovien’s Spotlight show anchor, right? That was because her mom— sorry, Mrs Anderson came back with the real daughter. She says Shikera is a..." Cyprian chimed in, trailing off as she was unable to utter the last word.

"Shikera is a what?" Team leader Zuresh asked.

"A fake."

"That’s plain nonsense. If Shikera is fake, then it can only mean that the shares I hold is fake too. Why would Natalia come back and not come claim her shares first?" she questioned. The confused gazes Cyprian and Raymond were directing at her, prompted her to explain her words. "For you to discover that I control those shares, then you should know I don’t use my name for it. That’s because it’s Natalia’s. If at all Shikera happens not to be her daughter, why would she leave the shares with me to keep supporting her?"

"It’s possible," Cyprian replied, her words coming out slowly as her unfocused gaze strayed on the long table. She continued, "Only if Natalia Anderson doesn’t know she has shares with you."

"That’s not possible," Team leader Zuresh shook her head, "I mean, she can forget that she asked me to help her handle the shares but there’s no way she doesn’t know. Plus the chances of forgetting is actually like ten percent or so."

Raymond spoke up, "The chances are actually zero. For a person who said she came back to her husband because of her inability to take care of her sick daughter, I don’t think she would have forgotten that she had this amount of shares somewhere. Except...she really does not know she has shares with you."

"And how is that possible?" Team leader Zuresh asked, leaning back on her seat. She was beginning to feel like she and Raymond were talking about two different people.

"Why don’t we do this? You should see Mrs Anderson yourself and then ask her why she didn’t come to see you since she came back. You can also remind her of the shares and see what she says."

Team leader Zuresh frowned, starting to shake her head. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

"I don’t think I can do that. If Natalia wanted to see me, she would come meet me. I can’t go to see her in the estate where she—"

"You won’t go there," Raymond interrupted. "We will bring her out. You only have to spare an hour from work tomorrow and then watch her from a distance. You can approach her too if you want but all we need is just your thoughts on why she didn’t come for the shares."

"Alright then, I can do that. What time tomorrow?"

Raymond turned to Cyprian for a reply. "What time would you be free?" he asked curtly.

"Yes? Erm...anytime, I’m still on leave. I...came to work today cause I didn’t have anything to do at home," she stuttered in reply, as she had not expected the question.

Raymond nodded slightly and turned back to Team leader Zuresh, raising his index finger.

"How about one pm?" he asked.

The latter nodded gently.

"One is okay. I can spare 2 more hours until 3pm," she stated.

Raymond rose to his feet and bowed lowly, a gratifying smile on his lips.

"Thanks very much for your time," he appreciated, and Cyprian unconsciously joined him, bowing at the same angle that he did.

Looking alternately from one person to another, Team leader Zuresh nodded gently.

"It’s nothing. Let me know if you need my help. Will you leave with him, Leigh?" she asked, to see Cyprian nod in reply.

"Alright. I will leave you two then."

She rose from the chair and picking her handbook up, walked out of the conference room. Without sparing a glance at Cyprian, Raymond did the same and walked out, leaving Cyprian to run after him.

"Hey!" she called carefully.

"What’s the matter?"

Like one who lost her gift of speech, Cyprian’s mouth zipped shut and refused to open. The coldness in Raymond’s voice had that much effect on her and she knew she deserved it. If there was anyone who did not have the right to walk with him like this, it was her.

Raymond didn’t repeat his question and the both of them got into the elevator, making the silent trip down to the underground parking lot. They stepped out when the doors opened, Raymond heading to his car while Cyprian headed in the opposite side.

"Where are you going?" he asked out loud, without turning to face her.

"Cal said he would pick me up. I will check if his car has arrived yet," Cyprian replied. Without waiting for a response from Raymond, she turned and walked away.

The clack of her heels died down gradually as she went farther away from Raymond, who turned when the sound completely dissapeared.

"It’s not my fault," he whispered, "She was the one who didn’t inform me."

Few metres away from where Raymond was standing, Ruthlyn stood waiting for Enoch. She lifted her gaze from his message which she received a second ago, that said he would be down in five minutes, to see her brother standing a little distance away from her. His back was facing her so she tiptoed nearer to him while partially expecting him to realize her presence.

"What are you do—?" Ruthlyn started to whisper in her brother’s ear, when he suddenly turned to her.

"It’s not my fault!" Raymond yelled, his voice echoing in the parking lot.

Ruthlyn stepped away from him, startled at the unexpected yell.

"What’s wrong with you these days, Ray?! Why the sudden shout?" she yelled back.

Raymond’s hand pushed through his hair, as he sighed in frustration.

"Imagine how she must have felt when I told her I love babies. The pain that would have filled her then," he continued with his whispers.

"Jeez," Ruthlyn shook her head, "If you will be like this, then get a hold of yourself and go confront Cyprian. I don’t know what this is about but still, you will go nowhere if you both don’t talk to each other."

"Forget it, Ruth. Did you meet Lady Preston and Andrew Lane?" Raymond asked, completely changing the topic.

"Yeah, nothing useful though. We will meet them again next week. How about you?" Ruthlyn replied.

"Mrs Zuresh said the shares she’s controlling aren’t hers. She said Natalia Anderson handed it to her, to use it to support Shikera in anyway she can."

"Really?" Ruthlyn exclaimed, "That was totally unexpected."

Raymond nodded and continued, "Apparently, she is Shikera’s godmother and she knows she is Liam Anderson’s daughter. She also knows that Shikera is married to Ethan."

"Woah! I was wondering why the impressive Ashley Zuresh didn’t find out when she was that close to Kera. Turns out she knew!" Before she could stop herself, Ruthlyn’s hand was already over her mouth to stop herself from yelling out loud in surprise.

"The next step is that I have to make her see Natalia Anderson and speak with her, so we can monitor their interactions. But the problem is getting Natalia Anderson out to a place they can meet. Any ideas?"

"I got a cool one here!" A voice called, causing the siblings to look up. It was Enoch.

He continued as he walked closer to them, "Elizabeth Anderson wants to tutor Esther and we have been looking for a way to stall her. With the super polite and persistent manner she has been texting me since early this morning, I think her aim is not just Esther, but Ethan too. So—"

"Cut the long story short and tell us your idea. If you haven’t realized, we are standing in a reporters’ territory and it’s dangerous," Ruthlyn interrupted him.

"Okay! This is what I think. Since we can’t let Elizabeth Anderson come to the villa, why don’t we lie to her and say Esther wants to visit her or so? We can tell her to come meet us in a restaurant so she can have a good relationship with Esther before the home schooling starts. And as a plus, we can ask her to bring her mother with her."

"Won’t she suspect anything?" Raymond wondered.

"If they do, they won’t be able to find a reason why we are doing this. The highest they would think is that we are trying to foster a good business relationship with the Andersons, and that we are using them. We just need them to come, right? So let’s try this first," Enoch implored.

Ruthlyn gave a short nod in agreement to what he said, and added,

"Let’s go home and get to work then."
