Chapter 215: The Ordinary Man.

"Did I hear right?" Enoch whispered, his brows furrowed in confusion.

Ethan raised his head to look at his younger brother. "You heard right. If a father and a mother is what it takes to convince her she’s worthy to stand by my side, I will find them for her," he stated.

"But... aren’t her parents part of The Jordans?" Enoch asked.

"I don’t care. I will find them and do all it takes to have them take up respectable positions in the economical sector of the country...as long as that’s what she wants."

"I don’t think she wants that," a voice came from the door, causing them all to turn their heads in the direction of the door.

It was Cyprian, wearing a large shirt over baggy jeans. It was obvious at a glance that the clothes were not hers. She was staying at the villa at the back with Raymond, after calling her team leader to use her almost expired two weeks leave.

Raymond walked over to her, pulling her into his arms in a small hug.

"Why are you here?" he whispered.

"What should I do alone in that place? Ruth went out already," Cyprian replied. She didn’t attempt to extricate herself from Raymond’s embrace but instead tightened her arms around him.

"What does she want then?" Ethan interrupted them.

Separating slowly from Raymond, Cyprian let his arms wrap around her waist. "She wouldn’t want to reunite with them, if her parents are really among those...people. You know, the main thing she was guilty about wasn’t about having powerful parents. It’s the fact that they are scums of the earth, who would actually prove harmful and dangerous if she continues to stay with you and Esther."

Cyprian paused, a sad smile on her lips before adding, "Maybe if she married an ordinary man, all this wouldn’t be happening. Those people won’t be after an ordinary man that they won’t gain anything from harming, right?"

"Then I’ll become an ordinary man," Ethan spoke up.

Enoch looked from one person to another, trying to make sure he wasn’t the one hearing things before suddenly bursting into laughter. What started as a giggle turned into a fully fledged chortle, echoing in the living room and attracting glares from the others in the room.

"What’s funny?" Ethan asked.

The smile erased from Enoch’s lips immediately and the laughter stopped. "Nothing, I just thought I should laugh since you were telling such an expensive joke," he answered.

"Which words, of all I said sounded like a joke?" Ethan asked emotionlessly, his gaze which was fixed on Enoch already hardening.

"Sorry...but you said, you would become an ordinary man or something," With head bowed slightly, Enoch answered.

"And?"

"That’s surely a joke!" All three of them chorused.

Enoch raised his brow, his eyes asking questions while his mouth was tightly shut.

Raymond spoke first, "You can’t just become an ordinary man by mouth, Ethan. You are...the DeLoach family first son. One of the black card holders of the Mega families and what else? Anyways, just know that what you said just now is better considered as a joke."

Cyprian was the next to speak, and she was barely holding herself back from laughing as she did. "You...Ethan DeLoach? Sorry if that was rude but then, haha! You can’t mean it. If it’s any other Mega family member, I can force myself to believe it happened in my wildest dreams but you? Ethan DeLoach is a face behind a mask! You can’t live an ordinary life... Even your mere presence is so intimidating and—" she cut herself off, before adding, "Anyways, Mr DeLoach, as Shikera’s friend and a reporter. I’ll say you can’t become an ordinary man as you said."

Enoch was about to add his own contribution when his phone rang and he picked immediately, "Yes?"

"What?!" His eyes widened and the phone fell to the ground, while his hand hung in the air.

"What happened?" Ethan questioned.

"It’s... it’s the Jordans! The Special Military Forces are out on a mission so they weren’t able to detect this earlier, but..." Enoch trailed off, fear clouding his eyes.

"Speak!" Ethan ordered, barely moved by Enoch’s current

"The Jordans surrounded The Mega Estate, and the mansions of all seven families..."

"What?!" Raymond’s snapped, "If the Special Military Forces are out then the only person left to face The Jordans is..."

"Ethan," Enoch completed Raymond’s sentence.

Cyprian looked from Raymond to Ethan, confusion evident in her eyes.

"What’s wrong? Is he facing them? Why?"

No one could answer her numerous questions as they were all occupied with the phone calls that blasted their phones.

While the rest were nervously pacing the room while answering the calls, Ethan simply stared into space for a few seconds before rising to his feet.

"You resume for me tomorrow, Ray, and Enoch will assist you. Ruth should monitor the team searching for Shikera. That’s all, right?"

Without waiting for answers, he walked away from there to the stairway.

As they watched him leave, Raymond hung up on the call he was on and Enoch did the same.

"Why is he giving instructions? Are you going somewhere, Ray?" Cyprian asked.

"I’m not. He is, instead..." Raymond replied.

Cyprian frowned,"Why are you guys acting this solemn? Is he going somewhere dangerous? You should stop him! Kera would not like—"

"He won’t be harmed," Raymond interjected, "At least I believe so but, shit! We are worried because he might just decide to permanently wear a mask when he comes back."

"What do you mean he might just decide to permanently wear a mask?" Cyprian pressed.

This time around, it was Enoch who replied her, "He wears a mask for a reason, don’t you think? This same stupid Jordans team made him start wearing masks when he was ten and since then, they always strike just when he’s about to shed it off. Now...they are acting up again."
