Chapter 182: Searching for Number 7

Or course, Skyler already knew why Shikera was calling her late at night, but she didn’t want to sound eager and thereby make Shikera suspect she was up to something.

"I wanted to ask if the offer still stands. I pay you the hotel normal charges and I live like I am in an hotel," Shikera inquired.

"Yes! Do you want me to pick you up now?" Skyler hurriedly asked. Though she had not gone to see the house yet, she already knew the general direction. There would be no problem since it was already furnished too.

"No, I can come over instead. But that would be tomorrow morning since it’s already late. Or do you have an appointment?"

"No. I’m not working either since my work is to assist you, so I will come to the hotel first thing tomorrow!"

Shikera chuckled,"If you insist then. I’ll call you when I wake up."

"I will be waiting for your call!" Skyler exclaimed excitedly.

The call was disconnected and Shikera walked to the adjoining bathroom to take her bath.

Few minutes later, she emerged from the bathroom with wet face and eyelashes. She was already wearing her nightgown, as she had dried her body back in the bathroom already. Getting into bed, she retrieved her laptop and placed it on her lap.

She was going to browse through social media, and probably binge watch some movies she had missed. She would do anything fun, so she would not fall asleep before midnight.

Outside her room, a masked man and a girl, dressed identically in black clothes, walked into the room opposite hers.

The girl was already half asleep so her mask was removed and she was put to bed, while the man removed his facemask and sat down on the only chair present in the room.

From time to time, his eyes would stray to his watch, trying to check if it was midnight yet.

Shikera stared on, watching intently as Skyler turned her card over and over again, examining it with a concentrated gaze.

"Isn’t there anything off with it?" she asked.

"None that I see," Skyler replied. She then asked,"What did you say was wrong?"

"It didn’t work the last time I wanted to pay at the front desk but it worked without any problem this morning," Shikera explained.

Her eyes widening in realization, Skyler stated,"Oh...maybe that was a problem from the card company."

"Oh, I thought it was something more serious. You should drive."

Shikera threw her car key to Skyler, while pulling her luggage to the trunk of her car. They were at the front of the hotel building, preparing to leave for ’Skyler’s apartment’.

The two women settled in the car comfortably and after setting the location in the GPS map, they started the car.

Thirty minutes later, the car came to stop in a recluse area with only a few houses around. The two of them alighted from the car and while Shikera went to the back to take out her luggage, Skyler began comparing the addresses of the houses around to the one which was sent to her by Ethan.

"Where do we pass?" Shikera asked. She had not noticed the confusion written all over Skyler’s face.

"I uh...you know what? Just look for the house with address number 7. I have to take an urgent call," Skyler lied, thankful that her brain had worked this fast. She hurried away from Shikera, placing her phone on her ears before removing it when she saw a consider distance away.

Then she began to look for the house too. She was starting to regret not coming to check the house beforehand, when her phone rang and she looked down to see it was Shikera.

"Did you find the house?" she asked, as soon as she picked the call.

"There’s a problem here, Skyler. There are several houses with the number 7 here. You said yours was a small apartment, right?"

"Yeah...I guess," Skyler replied, the second part of her answer said in lower tone than the first. She disconnected the call immediately and called Ruthlyn, who picked the call after three rings.

"Miss Stone, could you please send me a picture of the apartment building, an external view?" she requested.

"Apartment? We didn’t get an apartment. Are you at the address I sent to you?"

"That’s where I am. But there are so many buildings with number 7," Skyler replied.

"Alright, the house shouldn’t be hard to find though. Uhm...I sent the pic now."

"Thanks very much," Skyler appreciated, disconnecting the call to check her new message.

She clicked on the picture Ruthlyn had sent to her and her eyes widened. This...was not an apartment building at all. This was a whole building on its own! There was no way Shikera would believe she could afford it.

Her phone rang again and she picked it,

"What’s up?"

Shikera’s voice, which came through the line, was sounding a little bit annoyed,"I already knocked on the doors of every houses with the number 7, but everyone one of it is occupied. The only one left now is this—"

"That’s it," Skyler cut her off.

"That’s what?"

"The house...my house," Skyler murmured. She had to get used to calling the house hers. And she had to do that in the few minutes before she would meet Shikera, so she would be able to convince Shikera that the house was hers.

Skyler walked back to the car and began to trace Shikera’s footsteps by moving in the direction she had went. It didn’t take her long before she found her, standing in front of her her house, from now on. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

"Why did you take so long in calling?" Shikera asked, frowning with worry etched on her forehead. "Is there a problem?"

"No, I just had to speak to my mum. Since I stopped living with her, she likes calling me with false and alarming excuses. Why don’t we go in?"

"Alright," Shikera complied. She let Skyler get in front of her and unlock the door to enter, before pulling her own luggage with her and entering the house.
