The Faceless Billionaire Celebrity Wife-Chapter 177: Card.
"Who did you want me to call?"
"Uhm...I don’t know if you could get Dr. Krystal Alexander to come here," Shikera replied to the nurse standing behind the desk at the nurses station.
"Your name, Ma’am?"
"Shikera..."
"Surname?"
"Just tell her Shikera. The surname stuff is kinda ridiculous right now," Shikera answered, smiling awkwardly.
"Alright, Ma’am. I’ll be back in a few."
Shikera walked back to sit on one of the vacant chairs in the visitor’s area, her first time knowing how the chair felt.
She had only come to the hospital for her check-up or whenever she was seriously sick, so there was never any reason for her to sit here. But for today, she chose to go to the Nurses’ station instead of going directly to Krystal’s office.
She raised her head when she heard footsteps approaching her, smiling when she saw it was the nurse.
"Miss Shikera, Dr. Alexander said she won’t be able to see you as she is very busy," the nurse informed.
"Busy? Oh...I guess she’s in the OR," Shikera nodded, before adding, "When will she be done?"
"She is not in the OR so I’m not sure when she would be done. She says to ask you to make an appointment if you want to see her."
Appointment...the word resounded in Shikera’s mind and she felt the urge to laugh out loud. Apart from work, she never had the need to make an appointment in her whole life. Another thing which served to show that her life was really nothing, as long as she was separated from the Anderson family.
"I understand, Nurse. Could you direct me to the nearest restroom to this lobby?"
"Of course, you just have to go straight—"
"Don’t worry. I’ll find somewhere else," Shikera changed her mind and stood up, heading towards her private room in this hospital. Having a private room in an hospital was nothing to be proud of, but for Shikera, it seemed like that was the only thing that could console her for now.
She would use the toilet in her private ward and console herself...
She was now standing in front of the ward and she inhaled and exhaled deeply, placing her hand on the door knob.
"This is still yours, Kera..." She whispered, pushing the door open as she stepped in. Her eyes took in the scene in the room and the bag in her hand fell to the ground, the items inside clattering to the ground.
Immediately, she bent down to pick them all up and walked out, breaking into a sprint as soon as she was out in the hallway.
"Shikera!" she heard Liam’s voice calling after her, but she ignored it.
There was no reason for her to answer. Was she expected to explain what she was doing in a room that was no longer hers? Her father was there, Natalia was there, Elizabeth was lying on her bed and finally... Krystal was sitting in the room with them!
’Stop this, Kera. You are being totally unreasonable here so just get a hold on yourself!’ she screamed inwardly.
’Yes...that’s it. Calm down and everything will fall back in place. The only thing you have to do now is get another guest for Elovien’s Spotlight within two hours, and after that, you cancel it all. There’s no reason to continue after all.’
She bent down in the restroom which she had miraculously found, and took out her phone to scroll through her contact list. She needed to use her influence, former influence actually, to find a new guest.
If only she had not been so occupied in this mess from the previous week, she would have been able to find a guest only by her influence as a show anchor. But the only thing she could rely on now was the power of the Anderson family.
"Shit, Kera! You never really maintained more than a formal relationship with this people..." she murmured under her breath. How strange would it be if she suddenly called them asking for help with this?
Her phone rang and she picked it immediately, seeing the caller ID.
"Leonard?"
"It’s me. How are you doing, Shikera?"
"Great, I guess. What’s up?" she asked, hoping this was not something like a goodbye call.
"I missed you. You’re busy?"
"Yep, hunting for guests for Elovien’s Spotlight. I...was caught up in something last week and procrastinated until it finally caught up with me. And now I’m stranded," Shikera explained.
Her brows rose when she heard a laugh from the other side of the line, before the voice followed.
"Could the heavens be more helpful than this?"
"Leonard..." Shikera was about to ask what he meant by that, when he cut her off.
"I have to ask for your help then, Shikera. I have been feeling really disturbed on how my reputation as the celebrity doctor has declined. You know the only person who can revive that is you, right? The esteemed show anchor of Elovien’s Spotlight."
"What are you getting at, Leonard?"
"Don’t be so proud, Shikera, at least we have been friends for ten years now. Help me just this once and let me be a guest on your show...I can be very important too! Where will you find a doctor that is as popular as any idol out there?"
"Leo—"
"Don’t refuse please, Kera. You can ask me any question you want to ask. There’s no limit to it even if it’s personal. When do you want me to come over to Preston?"
"In two hours," Shikera replied, shocked at the way things were progressing. She wanted to thank Leonard but the call was disconnected before she could even open her mouth. She called back but he didn’t pick, and a smile spread on her face.
She knew just how much members of the Mega families protected their identities, and could imagine the courage Leonard had to take in order to appear on TV. She had only approached Krystal before because Krystal had one or two TV appearances from being a co-winner of the BOTOT award.
Now, she only had to go back to the hotel, relax for an hour before leaving for Preston Media House. Smiling brightly, she reveled at the thought of how smooth her journey was going to be.
However, this was never going to be the case as she ran into trouble immediately she got back to the hotel. The front desk clerk told her she was way past check-out time and since Shikera had only paid for a day while thinking Noah would come get her early in the morning, she proceeded to pay for another day with her card.
"It’s not working," the clerk said.
Shikera frowned and collected the card to see if it was really the one she had meant to give. She confirmed it was the one so she asked,
"What’s wrong with it?"
"It’s probably empty..."
"Empty? It has all the salaries I’ve ever collected in my life, for three years now," Shikera scoffed disbelievingly.
The smile on the clerk’s face didn’t falter and she waited until Shikera was done talking before replying, "But it’s not working, Mrs DeLoach."
In her confused state, Shikera failed to notice the name the clerk had addressed her with.
"What am I to do now? Since I have only exceeded a few minutes, can you just pardon me and let me leave?"
"That is not possible, Ma’am. You can only leave after you pay the fee for another day," the clerk shook her head.
"Then I have to stay outside until I get someone to pay?" Shikera asked.
"Not at all, Ma’am. You will stay comfortably in your suite but will only be able to leave after you pay," the clerk answered, shaking her head again.
Shikera sighed, turning the card over in her hand to see if there was anything wrong with it. She found no scratch on it so she just bid goodbye to the front desk clerk with the promise to pay up as soon as she was back from work. If she wasn’t able to sort the card issue, she would borrow some money from Noah to settle it.
’You really need to start depending on yourself, Shikera,’ she chided herself in her mind, as she walked to the elevator.
The receptionist gave a low bow when Shikera turned to leave, before straightening to watch her back until she got into the elevator. As soon as the doors closed, she had barely turned back when she heard a voice behind her.
"Good job..."
"Thanks—"
"That’s what I would have said if you didn’t make the slip of calling her Mrs DeLoach. Thank God I have an half dumb sister in-law."
"I’m sorry, Sir Enoch. I will try to rectify my mistake," the clerk said.
"It’s nothing. Ethan would be coming in a few hours so just clear your lobby beforehand. Your sister, Hazel, will contact you when he arrives in the parking lot."
"I will be waiting, Sir!"
