Chapter 117: Old Grannies.

Ruthlyn stood outside the villa, worried sick about Enoch even though she was the one punishing him. Sighing, she was about to get into the car and go pick him up when she saw the approaching headlights of a car. Shikera and Raymond were not expected back until the next day so who could it be?

Assuming a defensive stance, she went to stand in front of the driveway thinking it was a lost adventurer coming.

She waited until the car was close enough before approaching it. Before the car had completely stopped, the door was swung open and Enoch alighted, his blue eyes ignited in fury.

"Why did you do that, Ruth?" he asked, his voice reflecting his anger even though he was trying to be calm.

"Why did I do what, Enoch?" Ruthlyn answered. Even though the fury in his eyes was making her unsettled, she recalled the memory of that afternoon and decided not to back down.

"Why did you leave me at the headquarters even though you know how hard it will be to get here without a car? And you even blocked my card?"

Ruthlyn shrugged, acting as if she was not bothered by his words.

"And so? I felt like coming home earlier so I drove ’my car’ back home. And then, about your blocked card, that was because you were slacking back at work. You don’t expect to receive money that you don’t deserve, right? That was what I told Ethan and he decided to block all your cards in whole. Not my fault," she stated.

Her expressionless face only made Enoch more frustrated. How could she behave like she didn’t do anything out of the ordinary?

"A minute, Ruth. What kind of a wife are you? Even if I did slack off at work, weren’t you supposed to cover up for me? And about Ethan too, why did you have to tell him? I would be coming back home anyway so you could have warned me directly," he replied, his angry tone already softening to one of pleading.

Somehow, he could feel that Ruthlyn was more angry than she was showing but he couldn’t guess the source of than anger so he changed his tone.

"And apart from that, why did you have to leave me there? There’s something you aren’t telling me," he added.

"Point of correction, Enoch. I am not your wife yet, since anything can still happen. And...I don’t think I am the only one not telling you something? How about you? Why don’t you just summon courage and ask me to break up?"

Enoch eyes widened in surprise as he heard her last words. Slowly, the look of surprise on his face transformed to that of confusion as he took large strides to close the distance between himself and Ruthlyn.

"Hey, what happened? Did someone say something?" He asked. Since she was just half a head shorter than him, he was able to conveniently place his hand on her shoulders as he stared into her eyes.

"No one said anything. You have anything to say or not?" Ruthlyn replied him, firing another question almost immediately.

"That’s not true, Ruth. Did I do something wrong? Tell me, so I can at least know the reason I’m suffering," he persuaded her, his blue eyes maintaining contact with her black ones.

"That’s the only right question you have asked since you arrived. Why were you hugging Toni at the marketing department today?" Removing his hands from her shoulders one by one, Ruthlyn asked.

"What?! You saw us and thought...Ruth, did you think I would cheat on you with her?" Enoch asked, not bothering to disguise his disbelief.

"Help me to think otherwise," was Ruthlyn’s simple answer.

Enoch sighed, a relieved smile now tugging at the edge of his lips as he thought the misunderstanding would now be resolved.

"That’s not true, Ruth. Did you see us yourself or someone came to tell you?" he asked, trying to know who was the old fashioned person who didn’t even know that a hug was nothing these days.

"And who would care enough to come inform me? I saw you with my two eyes!"

Enoch nodded. "I understand then. You know what, that was simply a friendly hug. She was visiting the marketing dept today and asked me to accomplish her. Since I was less busy and bored, I agreed and when we got there, her friend in the department was teasing us. I immediately denied any sort of relationship between us but since I saw a kind of uhm...look in Toni’s eyes, I decided to hug her just to lighten up the tense atmosphere in there at that time. That was probably when you came in and misunderstood the whole thing," he explained.

Ruthlyn smirked, getting more amused as she listened to Enoch’s defence story.

"You looked into her eyes enough for you to see a kind of look. And a friendly hug? Seriously, Enoch?" she asked.

"Of course, Ruth. Anyone who isn’t from the ancient era would surely understand this..."

Ruthlyn cut his off.

"You mean to say, only old grannies are expected to misunderstand this, right?" She asked.

Enoch nodded, but before he could open his mouth to talk, Ruthlyn interrupted again.

"Then I accept I’m an old granny then. Don’t worry, civilized young man, I will try hard to adjust," she whispered, the smirk on her face was enough to show Enoch that she was not joking one bit.

"That’s not what I meant," he tried to explain, but Ruthlyn was having none of it as she walked straight to the villa at the back. Rushing back to the rented car to retrieve his bag, he hurried after her as he racked his brain for ideas he could use to escape this situation.

Watching them from the window of the living room in the front Villa, Hazel smiled dreamingly as she imagined herself in place of Ruthlyn and Ethan in place of Enoch.

"It will surely happen," she murmured to herself. "It’s only going to take time."

"... Ruthlyn will pick you up tomorrow."

Hearing Ethan’s voice from the direction of the stairs, she hurriedly ducked behind the couch so he would not see her. He had dismissed her an hour ago but she had still been daydreaming in the villa and did not get the chance to leave yet.

She listened to his footsteps and could tell that he was walking towards the kitchen which was directly opposite to where she was. Deeming it safe to escape at that time, she straightened herself to tiptoe away when her eyes came in contact with Ethan’s face.

And he was not wearing his mask.
