Chapter 104: Noah Anderson (2)

"What?!"

Noah stopped pacing, hurrying to stand before Shikera.

"Ethan married you? I mean, Ethan DeLoach," he asked, hoping his sister didn’t notice the tone of familiarity with which he first called Ethan’s name.

"Why?! I know he wouldn’t agree to a contract marriage even if a gun is put to his head," he added, staring earnestly at his sister.

"I don’t know why, and he told me not to ask either. It’s a contract marriage that will only last for a year," Shikera shrugged, frowning at how her brother seemed overly concerned about the matter concerning Ethan. Though she agreed that the whole news must be shocking, she did not understand why he seemed to be stressing over why Ethan married her.

Thinking of that, she added, "Why, do you think I am not worthy of him too? Because I’m a burden."

Noah sighed, placing his hands on Shikera’s shoulder.

"No, Kera. You are, and will never be a burden to anyone. I’m just wondering if he’s taking care of you well, as I have heard only bad rumours about him."

Hearing her brother’s thoughts, Shikera jumped to defend Ethan.

"Of course, even better than you would do if you were around. He cooks for me by himself and worries about me, he even packed my bag for me—" Shikera shut her mouth suddenly, realizing that she had gone overboard in defending Ethan. Noah seemed to have noticed though, for he was smiling down at her now.

"What’s this? Does my innocent sister like her husband?"

Shikera faced reddened instantly and she couldn’t guess why.

"What are you saying?! I don’t li–like him," she stuttered.

The teasing grin on Noah’s face didn’t dissapear and if anything, it widened the more.

"Okay...I’m guessing it’s unrequited crush then."

"Noah!" Shikera exclaimed, marveling at how her brother could jump to such absurd conclusion. Frustration welled in her as she saw that he didn’t believe her, so she decided to go all out.

"He’s the one who likes me instead, and for the past four years too! He liked, no, loved me since I was still in college so why shouldn’t I like him back?!"

"He liked you since college?" Noah repeated, suddenly able to connect the dots in all Shikera had been telling him. It seemed like he found the reason why his father decided to get Shikera married to Ethan.

Sitting on the camp chair beside Shikera, the smile on his face fell, replaced by a solemn expression.

"It’s alright if he likes you then, Kera. But...does her know? About the time...and what you mustn’t do?" he asked, immediately noticing the way Shikera shifted uncomfortably on her seat. He could tell that his sister was planning something she knew her family wouldn’t approve of. But Noah wouldn’t stop her or even ask her about it, because even though he knew his sister would die in the end, he wanted her to do that with no regrets. He wanted her to live the rest of her live doing what she wanted and for her own sake, not for her family’s.

"He...does, Daddy told him everything he needed to know when we wanted to sign the contract."

"And did he agree? He’s a man, and not a young one at that so I don’t think he would want to abstain—"

"Noah, why are you so chatty today? Let’s leave our personal lives aside. I can see that you are well, alive, and breathing so now, can you tell me what I need to do? Like the supervisor in this place, instructing a subordinate."

"There’s nothing much to say. This is nothing like a training except for the adventures and hunts we organize, and the bonfire night too which would be on the eve of your departure. In short, this is going to be like a vacation so you and your team don’t have to worry about working late."

"Alright! I’ll be on my way then," Shikera said, standing up to her feet.

"I haven’t been assigned a tent though," she informed Noah, who nodded as if he expected the request.

"You will be sharing tents with Venus Alvrier, and she’s a Mega too. She’s the only student who has arrived already,"

Shikera nodded nonchalantly, walking towards the entrance of the tent. Apart from the surnames of the Mega families, she didn’t know anything about their children names or lives, apart from the DeLoach’s and Almighty Alexanders, Krystal’s family, so she wasn’t bothered since it would be same as sleeping with a stranger.

Waving her goodbye, Noah suddenly remembered something and jumped to his feet, a frown on his face.

"Wait Kera, you were the one poisoned by Erica Jordan?!"

"Yes...how did you know that?" Her brows were raised as she eyed her brother suspiciously. What was he trying to say now?

"Never mind. Another question, if Ethan really loves you and takes care of you like you said, why did he allow you come here without any sort of guard or something?"

"Cause I lied to him and told him he doesn’t have to worry since it’s not my first time going on trips like that. Surprisingly, he agreed immediately. For the last time now, bye Noah!"

Shikera had walked a reasonable distance away from her brother’s tent, when she remembered that she had forgot to ask where her own tent was positioned. Turning to retrace her steps, she came face to face with a young teenage girl in school uniform.

"If you go by the name Shikera Anderson, it means we share a tent together. Would you like me to lead you or not?"

"Absolutely, thanks...so much," Shikera appreciated, thinking inwardly on why the girl talked so strangely.

She followed the girl to the tent to know where it was, before finding Vicky and Maja’s tent so she could get her luggage from them. As she approached the tent from which she was hearing a loud voice which was Vicky’s, Shikera’s eyes strayed to her phone which had not even beeped once since she got here.

Was Ethan not worried about her at all? All the dramas and novels she had read, the man always missed his wife even before she left his front so why was he different?
