The Ex-Wife's Revenge: Rise of the Real Heiress.-Chapter 192: He moved!
Elara sat on the couch in her living room, her mind playing that photo of Daniel with that woman repetitively.
The more she told herself to ignore it, to wait for the man to return and explain everything, the more her suspicion grew and the more pain she felt in her heart.
Antonio looked at Elara from the kitchen and pursed his lips.
He knew that, though she said she was cool with the scenario, she was anything but fine.
Anyone in her shoes who had been betrayed once, so recently, by the man she loved, who got involved with his secretary, couldn’t be fine.
"Miss Elara, you should eat something," Antonio said.
Elara looked at him briefly before she nodded and turned the TV on to distract herself, something that she had been doing since last night.
One outlet talked about the failed engagement and was speculating and spitting nonsense about it, just to increase their TRP.
The other business channel discussed the forces shaping the real estate market and companies considering building a plant in the state.
As she scrolled mindlessly, her fingers paused on one particular news channel that talked about recent crime stories that were yet to be solved.
It displayed Sean’s photo, and she remembered how Daniel probably killed Sean’s father because he was troubling her.
"Something doesn’t feel right," She said.
"Hmm? What isn’t?" Antonio asked as he sat before her, holding the file with all the data on her schedule for the month.
"Why is there no progress on Sean’s case? Someone is pulling strings behind the scenes to keep it from moving. They were quick to arrest me. It’s not something the Turner family would let go of easily. Someone is trying their best to delay it. But why?" Elara asked.
Antonio furrowed his brows.
"You mean it’s related to Beatrice?" He asked.
Elara bit her bottom lip. She wasn’t sure. It almost looked like someone was trying to keep her in place too. Did Beatrice really have that kind of power and influence to pull something like that?
Wasn’t she just an orphan taken in by Thames Maiden?
If her reputation got ruined, the man could just kick her out. It wasn’t like he had some kind of fatherly affection for her.
Unless he wanted something from her...
Beatrice has been selling the company’s secrets to her uncle. Andrew’s words echoed in her head, and she quickly pulled her phone out.
"We never checked Thames Maiden, did we?" Elara asked.
"We didn’t. Do you want me to look into it?" Justin asked from the other side.
Elara looked at the news, then at her hands.
"I thought the news that Beatrice wasn’t a real Maiden was enough to blackmail her, but something different is cooking here. My intuition is saying the truth buried in this Maiden family is enough to destroy many," Elara whispered more to herself than to Justin.
"I’ll look into it. Should I—?"
Elara pulled the phone away from her ears and looked at the caller when she heard a beep.
"I’ll call you later. George is calling," Elara ended Justin’s call before picking up George’s.
"If you have called to console me because you think I am crying rivers for Daniel, then you—"
"He got into an accident. The news was kept secret, but our people working in Italy confirmed it," George said.
For a moment, Elara found it hard to breathe before she swallowed hard.
"Is he okay?" she asked.
George went silent for some time before clearing his throat.
"The man is in a coma. I am flying there to see him. That’s the right thing to do. Do you want to—?"
"That’s not even a question. Of course, I want to see him," Elara said.
Everything went in a blur after that.
She didn’t know how she packed her stuff or how she got to the airport or on the plane.
It was a long flight, and a car was already waiting for them. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Multiple questions swirled in her head. She was angry, beyond furious, and, if possible, wanted to hit him for not taking care of himself, but more than that, she wished he were alright.
She didn’t speak to anyone the entire journey; she just kept looking out the window to keep her emotions in check.
No one spoke to her either, understanding her need for silence and space.
At the same time, inside the hospital, Sylvia, who had gone to ask her brother how he was doing and whether he wanted to move their boss to the base where they’d hire a nurse, paused when she saw Daniel’s fingers move slightly.
Her eyes went wide.
"Sylvia, are you even listening to me when I am talking? I just asked you—"
"He moved," she whispered.
"Hmm?" Alen asked, confused.
"He moved! Doctor!" She rushed outside to call the doctor, and it wasn’t long before a couple of men in lab coats hurried inside.
"Mr. Daniel? Can you hear us? Mr. Daniel?" The doctor asked, upon seeing the man flutter his eyes open, flinching slightly at the light.
"W-water," Daniel croaked, and the doctor nodded at the nurse, who rubbed an ice cube on his lips to let the water droplets in slowly before they could give him water from a straw.
Daniel arched his brows when he saw Alen and Kael leaning around him with bandages on their heads.
"Are you guys alright?" He asked, and Alen nearly broke before his boss.
"You are worried about us? Do you have any idea how worried we were about you because you weren’t opening your eyes?" Alen said in a wronged voice.
Daniel’s expression turned even more confusing.
His body ached terribly, but it felt like he had just woken up.
"What do you mean? How long was I sleeping for?" He finally asked.
"Sleeping? Sir, you were out for twenty-eight days," Kael said.
Daniel froze in his place when he heard his bodyguard’s words, and he immediately looked at Alen for confirmation.
Alen told him they had recently gained consciousness, and Daniel swallowed hard.
"My phone. Where is my phone?" He asked.
Sylvia, who had been smiling in relief, thanking the gods for finally awakening their boss, stepped forward.
"Sir, your phone was destroyed in the blast. We received the data. I’ll arrange for a new handset for you," Sylvia said with a smile.
Daniel shook his head, panic rising in his head.
"No... no. No. No. Give me your phone right now. I must call her. How can I stay in the coma for so long? She must’ve been so worried!" Daniel snatched the doctor’s phone and dialed Elara’s number.
He remembered most of it, but what were the last two digits? He kept thinking, his head hurting terribly, the pain almost knocking him over.
"Sir, you need to relax. Whoever you need to call can wait one more day. Please, your panic will disrupt your recovery." The doctor pushed Daniel on the bed, but he shook his head and looked at Alen.
"You told her everything after you woke up, right?" he asked.
Alen shook his head, his action disappointing him.
"We didn’t know when you’d wake up, sir. I didn’t want to trouble her when she is busy with her shooting," Alen said.
Sylvia stood there, frozen in her place.
She did so much for their boss, arranged the best doctors, and took care of him day in and day out, yet the first thing he asked about when he woke up was whether a particular girl knew everything or not.
Tears brimmed in her eyes, and she took a deep breath before blinking her eyes furiously to shoo them away.
"There was indeed a woman who had been frantically trying to reach your and Boss Daniel’s number. There are many messages," the man in the corner said.
Sylvia cursed inwardly and glared at the man, who immediately looked down in shame. But at the end of the day, he was working for Daniel and not Sylvia.
"Bring me a laptop. I want to read them," Daniel ordered with a glare, and Alen sighed before nodding at the man to follow his orders.
He had seen how obsessed his boss was with his love. There was no way he was calming down before knowing what she had to say.
