The Evil Mother-in-law: Torment Children, Work Hard, Be Rich!-Chapter 346: Standing Up for My Niece
Ma Wenpo reached out her hand to feel under Pandie, then said loudly to those outside, "Musheng’s mother, your daughter-in-law’s fetus position is incorrect and it’s too early for her to give birth."
Pandie was sweating on her forehead.
She felt her consciousness floating in mid-air.
Ma Wenpo was causing psychological panic for her, also explaining to those outside that this birth wouldn’t be easy and that any accident could happen during her labor.
Aunt, come quickly.
Pandie cried out in pain, secretly praying.
"Yell, yell," Ma Wenpo said to Pandie.
The more miserably Pandie yelled, the more those outside knew how difficult this birth was for her.
The pain intensified, and Pandie finally let out a wail.
Wu Ren, Mrs. Qiao, and their son, Wu Musheng, along with their daughter, sat in the room listening to Pandie’s cries, which sometimes rose and sometimes fell, while the four of them calmly enjoyed their fire and tea.
Mrs. Qiao said, "Even if this child is a son, Pandie cannot stay in the Wu Family, lest she tarnishes our family."
Mrs. Qiao and Wu Ren exchanged a glance, worried the midwife’s skills weren’t up to par, and if Pandie survived, she would have to be dismissed.
Wu Musheng said, "Or demote her to a concubine."
Wu Musheng was somewhat reluctant, for in terms of appearance, Pandie was the most outstanding in the Black Dragon Pond area, even more beautiful than the young maidens he was currently seeing, despite having given birth.
His lovers from the brothel, though fresh, weren’t as pretty as Pandie.
If Pandie became a concubine of the Wu Family, she wouldn’t be able to cause trouble, would she?
Mrs. Qiao glanced at her son in frustration and said, "What’s so good about this fox spirit that makes you so enamored? She’s not even fit to be our family’s maid, let alone a concubine."
Wu Ren placed the teacup on the table with a sound, saying indifferently, "Pretty women, we have plenty of Silver, you can marry any kind you want."
Wu Musheng held his tongue.
Pandie’s voice grew weaker; she lay on the birthing bed, breathing heavily, striving to stay conscious.
...
At dusk, the sky began to fill with swirling snowflakes.
Tong Huaqiong rushed to the Wu Family at Black Dragon Pond before the heavy snow arrived.
"Hey, hey, hey, what’s going on here? Who are you people that your carriage just barges towards our house?"
"Do you know whose house this is? This is the village chief’s house."
"Get out of here quickly."
After Wu Ren became the village chief, he had a young servant by his side. Seeing a stranger’s carriage entering, the servant blocked it from going further.
Su Chengmin kicked the servant, and the carriage came to a steady stop in the Wu Family courtyard.
Tong Huaqiong had already asked Man Er to fetch the medical supplies such as cotton, tissues, alcohol, and hemostatic powder from space earlier. As soon as the carriage stopped, Tong Huaqiong carried the delivery bag and got off the carriage.
Mrs. Hong and Cai Wenpo jumped down right after.
"This is our Sui Feng Village Lady, who dares to stop us? Do you want to oppose the Emperor?" Su Chengmin said to the Wu Family members who gathered around.
The village chief couple and Wu Musheng rushed out upon hearing Sui Feng Village Lady.
Wu Ren moved forward and said, "Greetings, Sui Feng Village Lady."
Tong Huaqiong cursed, "Greetings, my ass."
While she quickly made her way towards the birthing room.
Cai Wenpo followed closely.
"Where’s the kitchen?" Mrs. Hong asked.
Mrs. Qiao, overwhelmed by Tong Huaqiong’s threatening demeanor, pointed towards the kitchen.
Mrs. Hong proceeded into the kitchen, ignoring everyone, and started simmering ginseng soup.
Tong Huaqiong and Cai Wenpo, upon entering the birthing room, immediately knew they were in the right place.
The birthing room was as cold as an ice cave. Who wouldn’t take proper warmth measures in the middle of winter?
Especially since the Wu Family wasn’t short on coal.
"Aunt..." Pandie heard Tong Huaqiong’s voice and tears flowed like a river.
Tong Huaqiong stepped forward and held Pandie’s hand, saying, "I’ve come, focus on giving birth, don’t worry about anything else."
Cai Wenpo stepped forward to check Pandie’s situation.
Ma Wenpo, feeling uncomfortable, faced another midwife as rivals who never met each other. Cai Wenpo was obviously trying to replace her.
"This is the Wu Family, how did you come in?" Ma Wenpo asked.
"Waiting for you, old hag, to harm the mother?" Cai Wenpo cursed right off the bat.
Cai Wenpo had always despised Ma Wenpo, both being midwives, Cai Wenpo wouldn’t harm mothers or female infants.
Yet, her business was worse than Ma Wenpo’s, truly the ancient version of bad money driving out good.
Ma Wenpo’s face stiffened as she said, "You wicked old hag, slandering me for business with false accusations. I’m invited by the village chief."
Cai Wenpo cursed, "Who doesn’t know the dirty, sinister deeds you do? What about the village chief? I’m invited by our Sui Feng Village Lady, so you get out."
Cai Wenpo straightened up and pushed Ma Wenpo out.
After pushing Ma Wenpo out, Cai Wenpo washed her hands thoroughly, sterilized them with alcohol brought by Tong Huaqiong, then, following Tong Huaqiong’s instructions, put on gloves and examined further, saying, "The head is almost out."
"Pandie, rest assured, I’ve switched you to Cai Wenpo, she will ensure you and the child are safe and sound."
Tong Huaqiong reassured Pandie and entrusted the birthing room to Cai Wenpo then walked out of the birthing room.
"Lai Fu, tie her up," Tong Huaqiong pointed at Ma Wenpo.
Su Chengmin stepped forward, kicked Ma Wenpo down, and tied her up.
Ma Wenpo wailed even louder and more miserably than Pandie.
Wu Ren’s expression changed, asking, "Lady, what’s this about? My daughter-in-law is giving birth now, why did you drive the midwife out? Who will be responsible if anything happens to my daughter-in-law?"
Tong Huaqiong sneered in the wind and snow: "Not driving her out and letting her harm my niece?"
Wu Ren and Mrs. Qiao were furious, Tong Huaqiong came here to support Pandie.
They never expected that a village lady who doesn’t even acknowledge her own brother and sister-in-law would come to support her niece?
Both were worried that Ma Wenpo’s plot to harm Pandie might come to light.
Wu Ren, forcing a smile, said, "Lady, you’re joking. Who would harm my daughter-in-law? Ma Wenpo is the best midwife we have at Black Dragon Pond. We specially invited her for the delivery, but you came and drove her out instead."
Tong Huaqiong sneered, having heard of Ma Wenpo’s lack of ethics from Cai Wenpo on the way here. A midwife who plots against mothers and female infants’ lives must be removed.
Pandie’s last-born daughter drowned the previous life certainly had Ma Wenpo’s involvement.
Tong Huaqiong said, "The midwife wanted to harm Pandie, I caught her, and not only harm Pandie, but she also said she would kill the baby if Pandie gave birth to a girl. The way you’re defending her must be your instigation."
Wu Ren and Mrs. Qiao were shaken to their cores.
This was indeed something they had discussed with Ma Wenpo.
Not only planning to kill Pandie but directly suffocate the baby if it were a girl.
Tong Dajiao’s ruthlessness they had already experienced, knowing that if she found out about their thoughts, she wouldn’t spare them.
After tying up Ma Wenpo, Tong Huaqiong with Su Chengmin moved to the upper room to retrieve a charcoal stove and a basin of coal to transfer to Pandie’s birthing room.
Wu Musheng shouted, "How can an outsider enter the birthing room."
Su Chengmin cursed, "You are her husband, your wife is giving birth, and you didn’t even keep watch or provide a basin of coal for your wife, what kind of man are you? So just one shake and you think you’re a hero?"
Su Chengmin, having mixed up in martial fields and fought on the battlefield since childhood, had a compelling presence even when dressed in coarse clothing.
Wu Musheng was too scared to make a sound.
"Heartless coward, if you truly cared for the mother, why is the mother’s room like an ice cave?"
Su Chengmin cursed and swore as he rummaged through Wu Ren and Mrs. Qiao’s bedroom, pulling out two new quilts and several new fabrics, and carried them all into the birthing room.
Tong Huaqiong thought bringing Su Chengmin was the right choice.
