The Enhanced Doctor-Chapter 389 Even the murderer is saved
If it had been daylight, the entrance to the emergency center would have been bustling with people, preventing such a situation. But it was night, and the weather was so cold; who would be lingering here if they didn’t need emergency care?
Liu Banxia saw that the assailant hadn’t gotten up. He steadied his nerves a bit. Only then did he feel a piercing pain in his side. He had probably been stabbed.
"HISS. It really freaking hurts," Liu Banxia muttered, clutching his side as he stood up.
"Security! Security! There’s an attacker!" After muttering, Liu Banxia shouted loudly.
The two security guards inside heard the commotion and quickly ran out, startled by the scene outside.
"First, restrain him, then call the police. Be careful, he has a knife," Liu Banxia warned them.
"Dr. Liu, are you injured?" a nurse who had rushed out asked.
"I’m fine for now. Check on that man first," Liu Banxia waved his hand dismissively.
He then noticed something else was amiss. The man who had just attacked him was now only rolling on the ground, and the knife he had been worried about had been tossed aside.
"Dr. Liu, your waist is bleeding a lot!" the nurse exclaimed, startled after checking him.
The commotion outside drew more people from the emergency center. They were all shocked when they saw Liu Banxia’s condition. There was a significant amount of blood on the right side of his waist, staining a large patch of his white coat red.
"Bring that man in too. My injury isn’t serious; it should just need stitches," Liu Banxia said as he walked inside.
"My kick was quite powerful just now. I’m not sure if I damaged his internal organs. Anyway, he needs a thorough check-up. Have either Wang Chao or Qi Wentai do it. HISS."
He walked a bit too quickly, pulling at his wound, which made him grimace in pain.
Attacks on medical personnel had been frequently in the news these past two years. If not for their sense of duty, no one would have bothered with that scoundrel.
However, for safety, they restrained the man immediately; otherwise, he might have harmed others again.
"I’ll check your wound. The police will be here soon," said Wang Chao.
"I’m really fine. Actually, an intern can do the stitching," Liu Banxia said.
"I only remembered who that man was after he was brought in. Remember that guy who faked cancer and ingested rat poison? That’s him. He must really hate me; he actually wants me dead."
"Can you stop worrying about other things for now? The wound isn’t small; it’s nearly five centimeters long and quite deep," Wang Chao said with a frown.
"It’s just an ordinary wound; my abdomen hasn’t been pierced. Let me see. Hmm... I can stitch it myself from this angle. Later, you can give me some local anesthetic, and I’ll do it myself," Liu Banxia said after a glance.
"Can’t you just be still for a moment?" Wang Chao said helplessly.
"Let him suture it himself. His suturing skills are so good, he probably wouldn’t trust anyone else," said Xu Hui.
"We’ve already informed the hospital administration; they’ll be here later. Banxia, can you stop trying to be a hero? You’re injured; you’re the patient now."
"Brother Xu, there’s really no need to make such a big fuss," Liu Banxia said with a smile.
"By the way, Wang Chao, how are those two patients? I just need my wound cleaned and sutured. What about the unconscious driver? Any skull fractures?"
"Preliminary diagnosis: temporal bone fracture, ruptured eardrum, some splenic bleeding, and facial nerve damage. He’s getting a CT scan now," said Qi Wentai.
"We’ve already called Xiao Jun from neurosurgery. He’ll come for a consultation after the CT scan to check for any intracranial hemorrhage. How do you want your wound treated?"
"Like I said, I can suture it myself. Brother Xu is right; I wouldn’t trust your suturing as much as my own. After all, my skills are the best," Liu Banxia joked.
In reality, he didn’t want them to worry on his behalf. Since they knew him, they’d surely hesitate while suturing. It would be better if he did it himself, since he could see where to suture.
"Teacher Liu, that man doesn’t seem to have any other serious issues, but your kick really packed a punch; it looks like you’ve caused an intestinal perforation," Xu Yino said, having also come over.
"Is it that serious?" Liu Banxia was taken aback.
"He deserves it. I really don’t want to treat him. Even if he’s cured, he should be sentenced," Xu Yino said resentfully.
Liu Banxia frowned. "Stop worrying about me and hurry up and arrange for emergency surgery. Otherwise, I might end up facing a manslaughter charge. We not only need to save him, but we need to save him properly."
"HISS. Wang Chao, you keep an eye on this surgery. Hmm... And call Doctor Shi Lei, ask him to come in for an extra shift. In my current state, I doubt I can last the whole night on shift."
"Alright. Are you really going to suture it yourself?" Wang Chao asked.
Liu Banxia smiled and nodded. "I’d better do it. You all have patients. Bring the interns in to observe, especially for Qi Wentai’s patient. I suspect it will require a joint operation."
Everyone looked at him, not knowing what to say. An injury like intestinal perforation had to be dealt with immediately. The driver’s injuries were also severe and would require surgery as soon as the CT scan was done.
Although the interns could also suture Liu Banxia, it wouldn’t be quite the same.
"Stop staring and get things arranged. Everyone, pay attention; these are rare learning opportunities," Liu Banxia urged again.
"Zhou Qian, help me clean the wound. It’s nothing serious. Just irrigate it with saline, and set up a mirror beside me. I can suture it myself."
Zhou Qian quickly fetched saline and iodophor. Liu Banxia took the suture kit, tore it open, and began to thread the needle.
Although operating while looking in a mirror would be a bit tricky, he felt he could manage. After all, he was skilled at this. Wasn’t laparoscopic suturing similar?
"Are you really going to suture it yourself?"
Zhou Qian was injecting Liu Banxia with lidocaine when Li Mingwu’s voice came through.
"Oh, what brings you here?" Liu Banxia said hurriedly.
"I’m on duty today. I heard about the situation here, so I came to check. Is the assailant under control?" Li Mingwu said, taking the suture needle and thread. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
"Yeah. I retaliated a bit too forcefully and ruptured his intestine. He’s undergoing preoperative exams now and will be taken to the operating room soon. I was planning to suture it myself; you can just keep me company," Liu Banxia said.
"What? The ’fastest hand’ at Second Hospital doesn’t trust this old fellow?" Li Mingwu joked.
"Not at all! You have a full schedule of surgeries every day; you don’t need to trouble yourself with such a minor task," Liu Banxia said.
"Let me do it. The police are almost here. I can update them on the situation when they arrive," Li Mingwu said.
"What exactly happened? Was this a personal vendetta? Usually, if a patient holds a grudge, they act out on the spot."
Hearing Li Mingwu’s words, Liu Banxia felt a bit embarrassed. It seemed his reputation really did precede him.
He had no choice but to explain what the assailant had done previously to try and keep his girlfriend, and also mentioned that he had received a complaint about it back then.
Li Mingwu frowned. "It’s not too complicated. Whatever you decide, the hospital supports you. It’s been a long time since I’ve done general surgical suturing. If it leaves a scar, don’t blame me."
"No, no. That would be an honor," Liu Banxia said.
"It seems your attitude is quite good. Rest well tonight and focus on healing. I’ll keep an eye on things here," Li Mingwu said.
"We’ll arrange the emergency center’s schedule for the next few days. I can approve two days of leave for you. No more than that, as we’re quite busy right now."
"Thank you. In that case, I won’t stand on ceremony," Liu Banxia said.
There was no reason to refuse. Besides, these words came from Deputy Chief Director Li Mingwu, expressing his concern. It would be impolite to refuse.
At this moment, the police also arrived. The facts were simple and clear, supported by the surveillance video from the emergency center entrance, so the choice of how to proceed was now in Liu Banxia’s hands.
What needed to be done now was to register the information and collect evidence. Once the assailant’s injuries healed, he would be taken into criminal detention. Liu Banxia’s stance would heavily influence what happened next.
After the questioning, Li Mingwu finished suturing him. It wasn’t as fast as when Liu Banxia sutured others, but the quality was top-notch.
"Your skill is truly remarkable. You’ve always performed such delicate work; these stitches are perfect," Liu Banxia said.
"Don’t flatter me. It’s just average, nothing compared to yours," Li Mingwu shook his head.
"You’re not being sincere. Who are you trying to fool with words like that, yourself or me? Rest well tonight. Don’t blame me if your wound doesn’t heal properly."
"Don’t worry. I’ll definitely seize this rare chance to slack off," Liu Banxia said with a laugh.
"Hmm... come to think of it, my suturing really is quite good," Li Mingwu also joked.
The people around them chuckled. This was a fortunate outcome; Liu Banxia had only sustained minor injuries.
Liu Banxia got off the hospital bed. As he looked up, he saw the pedestrian who had been grazed was about to leave. He frowned.
"Officer, please stop him," Liu Banxia said.
The police officer was taken aback but, despite not knowing why, ran over and called out to the injured man.
"Have you completed your examination? We can only process your discharge after a thorough examination," Liu Banxia said as he approached the man.
"Oh, it’s nothing. My injuries aren’t serious, and I won’t be asking the driver for compensation," the patient said.
"You still need to wait. This isn’t just about whether he compensates you; we also need to determine liability for the accident," Liu Banxia said.
The patient frowned. "Didn’t I already register my contact information and ID? You can reach me if anything comes up."
"SIGH... Let me be direct: were you trying to commit suicide?" Liu Banxia said.
Hearing his words, everyone present froze, confused as to why he would ask such a question.
