The Disdained Luna Who Rose Alone-Chapter 113 Investigate Clara First!
Calvin’s POV
I caught Evelyn’s mocking smile over the children’s heads, and something twisted in my gut. The frustration burned like acid, making my throat tight.
She really wasn’t going to give me a chance to make amends, was she?
My company car had been following them the entire time.
As I approached, Beta Zeon quickly stepped out and opened the rear door with a hopeful look on his face.
"I thought the Alpha might have dinner at Ms. Blackwell’s house tonight," he said carefully.
I gave him a cold look that made him stand up straight right away.
"Sorry, Alpha," he mumbled, dropping his head submissively.
Before climbing into the car, I turned back for one last look. Alexis was skipping between Rowan and Rhys, her little legs working double-time to keep up with her brothers. Evelyn followed behind them, her hair catching the late afternoon sunlight.
They looked like a perfect family portrait. A family I could have been part of if I hadn’t been so damn blind.
"It’s not too late," Cyra whispered in my mind. "Evelyn is still within reach."
I let out a bitter laugh. Was it too late? The woman who once looked at me with adoration now couldn’t even stand being in the same room with me.
The next morning, I arrived precisely on time to take the boys to school.
As we drove through the tree-lined streets, I noticed Rhys clutching something new—a small action figure.
"Did Mom get you a new toy?" I asked casually, adjusting the rearview mirror to see his expression.
Rhys looked up, his eyes bright with excitement. "Not Mom. Uncle Leon gave it to me!"
My fingers tightened around the steering wheel until my knuckles turned white. Leon Robinson. Of course.
"Control yourself," Cyra warned as my jaw clenched involuntarily. "The pups are watching."
I forced a smile and pulled over, turning to face my son. "Does he come to your mom’s house often?"
"Not really," Rhys said, examining his toy. "But he sends presents all the time! We all get them—me, Rowan, and Alex too."
Innocent as ever, my son continued enthusiastically, "Uncle Leon also brings Mom roses. They’re just as pretty as the ones you used to bring her."
Rowan, always more perceptive than his brother, noticed my darkening expression and tugged at Rhys’s sleeve, silently signaling him to stop talking. Rhys immediately fell quiet, though he didn’t understand why. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
When we arrived at school, I couldn’t help myself.
"The roses," I asked, working to sound calm. "Did your mother keep them?"
Rowan opened his mouth to answer, but Rhys beat him to it.
"Yep! She put them in that fancy new vase she bought. They look so pretty in the living room!"
The roses I sent her last week had been returned untouched. But Leon’s? Not only accepted but displayed prominently in her home.
"Let’s go after him," Cyra snarled. "He’s moving in on our mate."
"She’s not ours anymore," I reminded my wolf bitterly. "That’s the whole problem."
Rowan, clever as always, quickly gathered his backpack and pulled his brother toward the school entrance.
"We’re going to class now, Dad! Have a good day at work!" he called over his shoulder.
"Dad—ow! Rowan, slow down!" Rhys complained as his brother dragged him away.
"If I slow down, you’ll put Dad in the hospital with your big mouth," I heard Rowan mutter.
"What? What did I say wrong?" Rhys asked, genuinely confused.
Their voices grew quiet as the security team quietly followed them inside. They stayed close enough to protect them but far enough away so no one would notice. After someone tried to kidnap them, I had put twice as many guards around all three children and Evelyn. Now there were guards everywhere they went.
On the drive to Wolfe Haven International headquarters, Beta Zeon cleared his throat. "Alpha Calvin, about Clara... she’s still in the pack interrogation room. If her facial wounds don’t receive proper treatment soon, the damage will be permanent."
At the mention of Clara, my mood darkened further. Now that I was free from the "cheating" suspicion that had clouded my judgment, many details that I’d overlooked suddenly seemed suspicious.
I closed my eyes, fighting off a headache. "What about the investigation I ordered? Any progress?"
Zeon straightened in his seat immediately. "Everything about the Calypso Pack checks out, Alpha. Beyond human trafficking, they’re involved in organ harvesting operations across state lines."
His voice grew grimmer as he explained the criminal business. These weren’t just pack problems. They were real crimes. Clara hadn’t just been involved. She had actively helped with human trafficking.
"With Clara as our main focus, the investigation has moved faster," Beta Zeon continued. "About the poisoning of the young masters, we have the phone recordings from Ms. Blackwell, but all other evidence has been cleaned up by professionals."
Evelyn’s recordings had been gotten in questionable ways, but they gave us important clues. Whoever had erased the evidence had been very careful. Too careful, which only made us more suspicious.
"The person who cleaned up for the Calypso Pack is the new Alpha from the neighboring territory. His brother-in-law works in Ravenshade’s..." Zeon reported.
He paused before adding, "The child she’s carrying... it’s his."
My face turned cold as stone. "If he’s newly appointed, then he can be newly disappointed," I said coldly. "Take him down."
Zeon nodded and reached for his phone. Within minutes, evidence against him was being sent to various law enforcement agencies. Our contacts would make sure the information got proper attention.
"And Clara?" he asked carefully.
I had personally arranged her bail because I believed she was innocent. Now it seemed clear that her cosmetic surgeries weren’t just about competing with Evelyn’s beauty. She had been planning to change her identity to escape prosecution.
Every time I thought about Clara’s social media posts, about how completely I had been fooled by a woman I thought I knew, anger burned in my blood.
People don’t suddenly become monsters. Either something terrible happens to change them, or they were monsters all along, just waiting for the right moment to show themselves.
"Reopen the investigation into Rhys’s attempted kidnapping two years ago," I ordered, my voice dropping low and dangerous. "Start with Clara."
