Chapter 63: Chapter 63: Underground Lair

"Let’s start, give them an early burial."

Lynn waved his hand, and the movers and masons, who were paid handsomely, immediately got busy.

Today they had taken on a big job. A kind noble paid to collect corpses for the villagers who were massacred, and although the work was somewhat repulsive, it counted as doing a good deed while making money, which helped them reconcile their discomfort.

"Wait a moment, something’s not right! Stop the work! Lynn, carefully sense the area."

Following behind Lynn and Little Yuri, Xiya and Catherine were also heavy-hearted seeing the scene before them, but upon getting closer to the bones, the perceptive Xiya suddenly frowned and halted the craftsmen.

A mass grave in the wild was not a pleasant place; however, Little Yuri’s relatives were all here, so naturally, Xiya wouldn’t feel disgusted by it.

Yet, although neither her body nor mind felt unwell, standing before this expanse of bones made Xiya shudder with fear, as if something terrifying was dormant here.

"There’s... residual Demonic Qi here, but it’s very faint... and over there... there’s some movement!"

As soon as the words fell, Lynn immediately stepped forward, and a heavy chain battlehammer appeared out of thin air in his hand, which he then smashed towards a piece of flat land in the wilderness.

"Boom!"

With a loud crash, the battlehammer hit the ground, sending soil splattering around, revealing a deep pit to everyone’s view.

The nearby workers were stunned, as this noble was unexpectedly a powerful berserker, producing such a massive pit with one strike. If this had hit a person, they would surely have been pulverized.

Fortunately, because he was accompanied by the renowned Xiya from Victory City, and appeared wealthy and influential, no one dared to offend him—otherwise, the team might have had a few members less.

"Such a strong scent of death, it’s a necromancer’s underground lair!"

Lynn stood at the edge of the pit and looked down, to find a flattened iron-skinned zombie and a rudimentary underground passage.

Without a system display, Lynn didn’t know the zombie’s level, but regardless if it was level 50 or 500, it had to return to Hades with that strike.

"It’s not just a necromancer; there’s also a Demon Race presence! This might be a necromancer lair connecting to the Demon Race Underground City!"

Xiya, holding Little Yuri who Lynn had just set down, and Catherine, rushed over together to look down the deep passage. As elves close to nature, Xiya intensely detests and rejects both the scent of death and Demonic Qi, and thus quickly identified the aura emanating from the pit’s base.

"Perfect, it’s been a while since I’ve fought monsters, I’ll go down there and clear them out!"

Lynn then prepared to jump into the pit, but was restrained by Xiya and Catherine, one hand on each side.

"This is an undiscovered evil lair, no one knows what dangers lie within, let’s report it first."

With a serious expression, Xiya held Lynn’s left hand and spoke to him.

"Demon slaying without me?"

Holding Lynn’s right hand, Catherine said excitedly.

Together you aren’t united in your intentions; I thought you were both trying to stop me...

"What danger could challenge me? Does this hole lead directly to the deepest part of the Demon Realm?"

Lynn spread his hand towards Xiya, suggesting she might be overthinking.

"I’ll take you next time, today you need to protect the child first."

Lynn pushed Catherine towards Xiya, putting her beside her.

"Be careful then." ×2.

Thinking of Lynn’s level of 999, Xiya said no more, and watching the worried face of Little Yuri, Catherine also calmed down.

"Give me five minutes."

With those words, Lynn descended into the pit.

Before he landed, several dark beams of light shot towards the falling Lynn, but they were all easily nullified by his Protective Fighting Spirit, without dealing even a drop of blood’s worth of damage.

"Oh no! It’s a Saint Tier expert! Quickly, inform the Grand Commander!"

Seeing Lynn’s Protective Fighting Spirit shining in the darkness like the midday sun, the necromancers lurking below the passage exclaimed in alarm.

They hadn’t anticipated that someone rashly invading their secret base would be a Saint Tier powerhouse, rare in the Celestial Destiny Empire. If they’d known in advance the enemy was this powerful, they never would have exposed themselves by attacking.

"Quick, inform the Grand Commander, tell him to wait for me a moment."

"Swish!"

As Lynn descended, he casually drew an ornate silver longsword, performing a flourish that dispatched the necromancers attempting to ambush him.

Though he left one alive, sending them off to call the boss over, sparing him from wandering aimlessly searching in the absence of a system map in this dark environment, locating the boss room was challenging.

The underground passage was extremely dark, but fortunately, Lynn’s level was high enough, his night vision was maxed out, allowing him to easily keep up with the fleeing necromancer’s pace.

"Who goes there? Ah..."

"Quick, block... ah!"

"Let them go up! Ah..."

Lynn encountered numerous baffled necromancers and groups of low-level undead creatures along the way. Seeing these lesser monsters, he was reluctant to chase after each one, so he simply cleared them all in one sweep, using range skills to eliminate groups one after another.

Necromancers and the Demon Race both are cancers to the world. The two groups have long since colluded together, and in all these years of war, countless living beings have fallen to necromancers; these malicious mages should no longer be regarded as humans, killing them on sight entails no injustice.

"Grand Commander! A Saint Tier powerhouse is attacking!"

The necromancer fleeing desperately ahead didn’t dare look back even once, but the constant screams behind him informed him of the ongoing chaos within the base.

Now he could only hope the Grand Commander, also of Saint Tier, could fend off the killing god behind him—it seemed hopeful. The interconnected underground base was highly conducive for the necromancer to wield the corpse mountains and seas of undead, how much longer could that pursuing Saint Tier powerhouse withstand amidst the hordes of undead creatures?

"What for panic! The Celestial Destiny Empire has no decent warriors! A mere Saint... whoa!"

Amidst the panic and chaos, the necromancer grand commander arriving from the lair’s depths collided head-on with the flustered necromancer. Just as he sneered at the Celestial Destiny Empire’s lack of strong warriors, Lynn caught up and greeted him with a Crescent Slash.

Seeing the peerless sharp sword light, the necromancer grand commander promptly retreated two steps, yet still couldn’t avoid its attack range.

In just one sword fall, the grand commander, at level 600, lost half his life as his entire torso was sliced in half by the sword light. If not for undergoing necromancy modifications, rendering him not entirely flesh and blood, this single strike nearly claimed his life.

"Elite monster? Or a mini-boss?"

Seeing he hadn’t finished the "monster" in a single strike, Lynn paused, roughly guessing he had encountered the main enemy.
