Chapter 50: Chapter 50: He’s Too Handsome

Juliana Taylor was a bit surprised. Shane Caldwell added, "Ms. Taylor, you’ve always taught us not to let any classmate fall behind. Vera Xavier’s grades are so poor, and as class president, it’s my responsibility to help her."

His reasoning was flawless, but it annoyed all the girls in the class. Elise Langdon was the first to stand up and say, "Class President, my grades aren’t as good as yours either. Why don’t you help me too!"

The entire class erupted in laughter.

Juliana Taylor’s stern gaze swept across the room, and the class immediately fell silent. She asked Shane Caldwell, "Do you really want to help Vera Xavier?"

Shane Caldwell nodded, but Juliana Taylor hesitated. In truth, she had already given up on Vera Xavier. Shane was always first in their class, a gifted student the school was investing heavily in. She didn’t want him to get distracted.

Vera Xavier stood up and said, "Ms. Taylor, I don’t want to be the class president’s deskmate."

"Why?" Juliana Taylor asked reflexively.

Vera Xavier said in all seriousness, "He’s too handsome. Having him sit next to me would be a distraction and affect my studying."

The class was silent for three seconds before erupting into chaos.

"What the hell? The class president doesn’t have a problem with her, but she has the nerve to have a problem with him!"

"Affect her studying? With her grades, she won’t get into college whether she studies or not."

"Class President, sit with me! I won’t turn you down!"

Shane Caldwell’s expression stiffened. He’d thought that if he offered to sit with Vera Xavier, she would be deeply grateful. He never expected her to refuse him outright. ’And what kind of ridiculous reason for a rejection was that!’

’Vera truly wanted nothing to do with him. Given his popularity with the girls in class, if he really became her deskmate, they would surely come looking for trouble every single day.’

’Her time was extremely tight right now; she couldn’t afford to waste it playing their games.’

Juliana Taylor breathed a sigh of relief. She said to Shane Caldwell, "Since that’s the case, there’s no need to change the seating. I’m touched by your kind offer, Shane. Now, there are only thirty-nine days until the college entrance exams. All of you, get back to your reviews!"

Shane Caldwell’s brows furrowed as he watched Vera Xavier with a complicated gaze, but she just continued reading her book as if nothing had happened.

The first period was math. Shane was distracted the entire time. He kept stealing glances at Vera, only to find she wasn’t paying attention to the lecture at all. Instead, she was just flipping back and forth through her math book, though he had no idea what she was looking for. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

Vera was a student the teachers had all but given up on, so no one paid any mind to what she was doing. Shane, however, was the great hope of every teacher. The moment his attention drifted, the math teacher spotted it and immediately called on him, "Shane Caldwell, please come to the board and solve this equation for the class."

Called upon by the teacher, Shane didn’t dare let his mind wander any longer. His grades were excellent, so a problem like this was no challenge for him. He quickly solved it perfectly.

The math teacher said pointedly, "The college entrance exams are almost here. I hope all students will prepare diligently. As for those who get a zero on every test, perhaps it’s best they not sit in the classroom and distract others."

Shane’s face flushed slightly. He stole a glance at Vera, but she acted as if she hadn’t heard the math teacher’s comment at all, continuing to scribble on her paper.

Cara Preston saw how Shane was acting toward Vera, and she was furious. ’Even if I don’t like Shane, he is not allowed to like Vera Xavier!’

’Vera Xavier is someone who belongs under my heel. No one should pay her the slightest bit of attention!’

’I have to find a way to ruin Vera!’
