Chapter 194: Chapter 194: Heart Dripping Blood

Vera Xavier answered honestly, "I asked Mr. Sterling to carve it."

"Mr. Sterling?" Master Nathan asked. "Which Mr. Sterling?"

"Mr. Quentin Sterling," Vera answered.

Cheney, the man who had previously offered to buy the seal, slapped his thigh. "No wonder! So it’s the work of the younger Sterling. Judging by the style, he must have consulted the elder Sterling. This seal clearly shows the elder Sterling’s influence."

After he spoke, the way he looked at Vera Xavier was clearly different. "Young lady, the next time you go stone-shopping, let me know. How about buying a piece for me, too?"

The other old masters wouldn’t stand for that. They all gathered around and chimed in, "You can’t have all the good fortune to yourself! You have to take us with you!"

Vera Xavier was speechless.

She knew each of these old men came from a prominent family and had once held a high-ranking post. She had even seen two of them in her past life, but their current behavior was a far cry from what she remembered.

She cleared her throat. ’I really can’t agree to this!’ She knew for a fact that there wasn’t a second piece of Chicken Blood Stone like that in the little shop.

Master Nathan jumped in. "Shoo, shoo! Get lost! Vera is the granddaughter-in-law I’ve approved. She’s one of us Nathans! Don’t you old coots even think about mooching off the Nathan Family!"

He then turned to Vera with a beaming smile. "Vera, if you go again, you can only take me!"

Vera truly had no words.

Master Nathan’s declaration that she was the Nathan family’s granddaughter-in-law successfully drew a great deal of attention her way.

They knew full well that at the end of the day, Master Nathan was the one who called the shots in the Nathan Family. Earning his approval would make getting past Nathaniel Nathan’s parents much easier. In their eyes, however, Vera Xavier was not good enough for Nathaniel Nathan, and his parents would likely never agree to the marriage.

Many beautifully dressed young women had come today, their objectives not much different from the likes of Elise Langdon and Cara Preston. Now, hearing that Vera Xavier had won Master Nathan’s approval, they were all filled with jealousy and resentment toward her, and immediately began inquiring about her background.

When they found out she was merely the long-lost daughter of the Preston Family—and a girl who had grown up in the countryside at that—their eyes filled with disdain.

Zachary Preston was considered a man of some real power in Crestfall, but his influence and family standing were nothing compared to the guests Master Nathan had invited. Not a single one of them was ranked below the municipal level.

Rona Langdon’s eyes, however, were glued to the seal. She had heard perfectly clearly: the seal Vera Xavier had just presented was worth two hundred thousand! Good heavens, two hundred thousand! That was an astronomical sum to her! Her heart was bleeding!

Inwardly, she was cursing Vera Xavier to hell and back. ’That damn wench, hiding such an expensive gift from me to give to Master Nathan!’

’If I’d known Vera Xavier had something so valuable, I would’ve gotten my hands on it, whether by trickery or by force!’

To her, the seal in Master Nathan’s hand wasn’t a seal at all; it was money, plain and simple! But since it had been given to Master Nathan, she didn’t dare make a scene or try to snatch it...

This only made her more frustrated.

This time, Vera Xavier had truly made a name for herself within Master Nathan’s circle of old friends. People kept pulling her aside to ask for her opinion on jade, and some even offered to take her to Zartania to buy raw jade stones.
