Vera Xavier politely declined. "Mr. Nathan, you don’t have to worry. I’m not that helpless. I can handle something like this. I’m just really sorry to have troubled you to come all this way in person."
"I’m just an old man with nothing better to do at home anyway. It’s good to get out for a walk," Master Nathan said with a wide smile. "Besides, we’re family. When one of us is in trouble, how can we not help?"
He was back to being that mischievous yet lovable old man, completely lacking the formidable presence he had when he furiously confronted the Kane mother and son that morning.
Vera Xavier began with a soft laugh, "Mr. Nathan, I’m eighteen now. I’m an adult. My family situation might be a little complicated, but I can handle it. I don’t want my dad to worry about me. Also, this whole incident has blown up so much, it wouldn’t be right for me to stay at your home anymore. I’m truly grateful for your kindness, though."

If you run into any trouble, just give me a call. Even if you don’t move in with the Nathan Family, I won’t let anyone bully you."
A warmth spread through Vera Xavier’s heart. In her past life, she’d never interacted with Master Nathan. She truly never imagined he would be such a kind and endearing elder.
After Master Nathan drove Vera Xavier back to the residential compound, he returned home and called Nathaniel Nathan to give him a rundown of the day’s events.
He then started to praise Vera. "Kid, you’ve got good taste. I wholeheartedly approve of the wife you’ve picked. It’s just with what happened, Vera can’t stay with us for the time being. If you miss her, just give her a call at home. You have her number, after all."
Nathaniel Nathan was silent for a moment on the other end of the line. His gaze darkened slightly as he said softly, "Got it."
He hung up, but a storm was brewing inside him. ’I’ve only been gone a few days, and they’re already bullying my woman. This isn’t over!’
He had originally planned to let the Kane Family off the hook, but now he’d changed his mind.
He dialed a number. "Aaron Cheney, I have a job for you..."

Vera Xavier said coolly, "Cara Preston, I won’t forget what happened today. I’ll settle this score with you eventually."
Cara Preston couldn’t hide the hatred in her eyes, but she spoke through tears. "Sister, what happened today really had nothing to do with me! I never meant you any harm, I was just telling the truth. Please don’t be angry with me, okay?"
Vera Xavier had to hand it to Cara Preston. After screwing her over so viciously today, she still had the gall to say something like that to her face. ’This "white lotus" is truly in a league of her own when it comes to playing innocent.’
